Port Angeles Resident Plaintiff in National Anti-Healthcare Lawsuit

"Obamacare," and whether or not it should be repealed, is an extremely contentious volatile issue (to put it mildly).

Therefore, I request that comments be kept civil. Attack the issue, not the person. Remember Jon Stewart's quote: "I may disagree with you but I'm pretty sure you're not Hitler."

And on that note:

Discuss.

Hmmm... I'm sure this is sincere. This is really about the Healthcare Bill and not just a ploy to get Dick Piling's Wonderboy’s name in the paper. Just as I'm sure Mr. Ahlberg's selection to the republican controlled harborworks board was completely on the up and up. Just as I'm sure that his selection to head the PABA (what Port Angeles Business does he own?)had nothing to do with the fact that the local republicans run that outfit as well... I'm sure Mr. Ahlberg will be just as successful as PABA and Harborworks have been. If this bit of cheese doesn’t fly, we can assume an attempt to sneak Mr. Ahlberg onto the Conservation board will be next.

I love it. Someone who is wealthy enough to retire at a young age, and move his family across the country, and buy acres and acres of property, AND who says he can damn well afford to pay for his own healthcare forever and ever...Has the chutzpah to sue to prevent everyone else, all us peons, from having improved access to healthcare.

Never mind the huge drain on our economy that the current system is. Never mind that we bypass prevention and go straight to (more expensive) treatment. Never mind that all the other industrialized Western nations have some sort of socialized medicine. And never mind the sense or morality of having a system in which the wealthy stay healthy and the poor get sick and die.

No, never mind all that. We must repeal healthcare IMMEDIATELY. And, sure, it has absolutely nothing at all to do with the fact that it's a Democrat in the White House. Nothing to do with the lobbying by the insurance industry. Oh no. This is for the "good" of the American people and economy.

Right.

The actions of this wealthy man has caused me to consider the fact that there are people among us who are actively working to make sure a large portion of our population does not have access to healthcare.
If I cannot amend my donor card to read that my organs cannot be donated to the insured, I will tear it up completely.
I will be damned if my possible premature death from lack of insurance will benefit such people as this man and other republicans.

Could you please cite the study (or studies) you refer to in coming to this (oh so brilliant) conclusion?

Also: Could you please explain all the brilliant, important, influential people who have come from poor families? How do we explain this when, as we all know, the poor are all "dumb ass's."

Just as we all know the correct spelling would be "asses."

Come, come, now.

First, this is old news. Typical of the PDN to try to make a new story of it, to get more "mileage".

Second, we all know that that it is FAR more important to spend millions and billions propping up dictatorships around the world. How many billions did the US give to the Taliban in Afghanistan, when they were our "friends"?

Mr.Ahlberg knows what is important. Don't question him.

Or else.

Old news? Not to me. I hadn't heard that our region is home to one of the two individual plaintiffs in the nationwide lawsuit to overturn health care reform.
This PDN story is timely because it supplements news about the present (impotent) efforts by Congressional right-wingers to re-debate last year's Health Care Reform bill. It also gives us a few more insights into the workings of the mind of one of our newer privileged transplants from the eastern seaboard.

Yes! I can see how this will address the problems of almost half of all Americans, who are denied health insurance because of "pre-existing conditions".

And, YES, "Rachel", by denying health insurance to those who are not as wealthy as Mr. Ahlburg, we taxpayers will some how NOT have to pay for all the subsequent problems that develop. We will just let them get sicker and sicker until they collapse on the side walk, where we will let them rot until they are just stains on the concrete, right?

Of COURSE, we're not going to pay for a street cleaner, right? That would be Socialism!

The new legislators got "the message" last November, and are in the budget cutting mode. Let's get rid of ALL public services, and adopt your suggestion, "Rachel". If you don't want to work, then you don't deserve to have a policeman, firefighter, or emergency care provider show up in your time of need.

Start cutting all those budgets and services. The drug lords we're propping up in Afghanistan will thank you.

Where it dies in the Senate. Impotent is the correct term.

I have a feeling Obamacare is a hate-hate kind of thing. Republicans hate it because it goes too far, liberals hate it because it doesn't go far enough.

I don't like it because it not only leaves intact a system I think is broken, but it forces people into it with no guarantee that costs will be controlled.

On the other hand, I don't subscribe to the Republican myth that we have the greatest health system EV-ah! Having medical care so costly that one can't even think of getting treatment without insurance that far outpaces the cost of inflation is NOT beneficial to the American public.

My hope, cruel as it seems, was that Obamacare didn't pass, insurance would go up past the point of employers or employees to afford it, people would leave insurance companies, insurance companies would go bankrupt, the whole broken system we have now would implode, chaos would reign and then we could build something that was better and actually affordable for everyone.

The republicans have done NOTHING on this issue EVER. They have contributed NOTHING to the debate other than ignorant obstruction and complete denial of the problem.

They had a chance to participate in the process and instead became the party of "NO". Now that the bill is passed, they whine and gripe about a constitution they don't respect in the first place.

I'm so happy for you. Obviously you don't have to worry about yourself, family members or friends. Obviously you know none will face the utter financial ruin, bankruptcy, and more when a " pre-existing condition" worsens, and requires extensive/expensive medical care. To watch as everything they own is sold off so they can qualify for public medical health care.

Obviously you will stand at the hospital beds of your family members and friends, spouting on about how publicly assisted medical care is all so corrupt and unconstitutional.

And, obviously you have NO heart, and care nothing for any other human being. You would rather spend money on "principle" propping up dictatorships all over the world, than to consider "health care" a priority.

You just keep spouting self righteous rhetoric, until the day you look into the dying eyes of someone you care about. That day WILL come.

Gee, if you stop typing and start thinking, you would see that the WTF? Is in blue… Same guy, EVERY time. That’s because I took 5 minutes to set up a screen name. Still maintain my anonymity, but unlike “anonymous” you know it’s me. AAAAAAW --- how sweet. I just noticed in today's paper that the Port Commissioners gave Mr. "I'm too rich to need a health insurance policy" a Community Service Award for serving on the (now defunct) HarborWorks Board. They had the cheek to do this at the same meeting where they wrote off as uncollectible over half a million dollars the Port loaned to HarborWorks.
I guess one should not be surprised to learn that squandering public money and leading an organization into bankruptcy are traits the Port Commissioners naturally recognize as worthy of special recognition.

We definately need some sort of Nationalized health care. There are a lot of people who cannot afford health care or are getting jilted by the insurance companies.

However, the current health care law should be fine tuned.

Take out the waste, let people opt out if they choose, but if those that opt out get injured, then they need to go to jail.

The current healthcare bill is the result of political polarization. The Republicans have opposed any relief from the current situation, not because we don’t need relief, but because they cannot allow any progress that might result in a perceived “win” for the Democrats. They refused to work on the bill, just as they have refused to cooperate with their “opposition” on anything since the election. The same way the Democrats refuse to cooperate when the Republicans are in charge. No attempt at compromise, no effort to find common ground or interest. This approach isn’t “fascist” or “socialist”. It’s just stupid.
In this case, they’ll fight and screw around as people get sicker and go bankrupt. The healthcare bill is what it is because it was a rush job, hammered through without modification or oversight, out of fear the Republicans would find a way to sink it. (Like they did the first time around in the ‘90’s) Well, they got they’re bill passed, and they’ll fight for it just as hard as the other morons will fight against it. I applaud the Dems for even trying, but this isn’t youth soccer, you don’t get a trophy for just ´’trying”.

What you’re saying is the Homeless, Mentally Ill, and Developmentally Disabled have no right to live near you. These people pose little or no threat (from a statistical standpoint). Their only crime is that they’re kind of funny looking. You know why they have no income. You know this isn’t about welfare cheats and meth heads.
