Port Angeles Resident Plaintiff in National Anti-Healthcare Lawsuit
"Obamacare," and whether or not it should be repealed, is an extremely contentious volatile issue (to put it mildly).
Therefore, I request that comments be kept civil. Attack the issue, not the person. Remember Jon Stewart's quote: "I may disagree with you but I'm pretty sure you're not Hitler."

Hmmm... I'm sure this is sincere. This is really about the Healthcare Bill and not just a ploy to get Dick Piling's Wonderboy’s name in the paper. Just as I'm sure Mr. Ahlberg's selection to the republican controlled harborworks board was completely on the up and up. Just as I'm sure that his selection to head the PABA (what Port Angeles Business does he own?)had nothing to do with the fact that the local republicans run that outfit as well... I'm sure Mr. Ahlberg will be just as successful as PABA and Harborworks have been. If this bit of cheese doesn’t fly, we can assume an attempt to sneak Mr. Ahlberg onto the Conservation board will be next.
I love it. Someone who is wealthy enough to retire at a young age, and move his family across the country, and buy acres and acres of property, AND who says he can damn well afford to pay for his own healthcare forever and ever...Has the chutzpah to sue to prevent everyone else, all us peons, from having improved access to healthcare.
Never mind the huge drain on our economy that the current system is. Never mind that we bypass prevention and go straight to (more expensive) treatment. Never mind that all the other industrialized Western nations have some sort of socialized medicine. And never mind the sense or morality of having a system in which the wealthy stay healthy and the poor get sick and die.
No, never mind all that. We must repeal healthcare IMMEDIATELY. And, sure, it has absolutely nothing at all to do with the fact that it's a Democrat in the White House. Nothing to do with the lobbying by the insurance industry. Oh no. This is for the "good" of the American people and economy.
Right.
survival of the fittest
If the poor get sick and die, it's GOD's way of population control.
The poor are all dumb ass's that harm the gene pool.
Let them die
The actions of this wealthy man has caused me to consider the fact that there are people among us who are actively working to make sure a large portion of our population does not have access to healthcare.
If I cannot amend my donor card to read that my organs cannot be donated to the insured, I will tear it up completely.
I will be damned if my possible premature death from lack of insurance will benefit such people as this man and other republicans.
"The poor are all dumb ass's that harm the gene pool."
Could you please cite the study (or studies) you refer to in coming to this (oh so brilliant) conclusion?
Also: Could you please explain all the brilliant, important, influential people who have come from poor families? How do we explain this when, as we all know, the poor are all "dumb ass's."
Just as we all know the correct spelling would be "asses."
Come, come, now.
First, this is old news. Typical of the PDN to try to make a new story of it, to get more "mileage".
Second, we all know that that it is FAR more important to spend millions and billions propping up dictatorships around the world. How many billions did the US give to the Taliban in Afghanistan, when they were our "friends"?
Mr.Ahlberg knows what is important. Don't question him.
Or else.
First, this is old news. Typical of the PDN to try to make a new story of it, to get more "mileage".
Like the fake numbers published about tea bagger rally attendance, the PDN prints whatever Dick and Co. tells them. I don't mean to imply conspiracy here, only journalistic incompetence. This rag isn’t fit to line a birdcage.
I remember reading about Ahlburg and Washington State suing over the health care bill, last year. Why is it news, now?
Old news? Not to me. I hadn't heard that our region is home to one of the two individual plaintiffs in the nationwide lawsuit to overturn health care reform.
This PDN story is timely because it supplements news about the present (impotent) efforts by Congressional right-wingers to re-debate last year's Health Care Reform bill. It also gives us a few more insights into the workings of the mind of one of our newer privileged transplants from the eastern seaboard.
If you don't wanna WORK, then you don't deserve health insurance!! PAY FOR YOUR own...don't expect me to pay for it while you spend all your money on pot, beer and cigarettes!
Well said Rachel
"Impotent"? Really? You didn't hear that the GOP CONTROLLED HOUSE just repealed this Fascist "Obamacare"?
Thank you, Mr. Ahlberg, for joining in this lawsuit against this National Socialist "healthcare".
" Rachel said...
If you don't wanna WORK, then you don't deserve health insurance!! "
Yes! I can see how this will address the problems of almost half of all Americans, who are denied health insurance because of "pre-existing conditions".
And, YES, "Rachel", by denying health insurance to those who are not as wealthy as Mr. Ahlburg, we taxpayers will some how NOT have to pay for all the subsequent problems that develop. We will just let them get sicker and sicker until they collapse on the side walk, where we will let them rot until they are just stains on the concrete, right?
Of COURSE, we're not going to pay for a street cleaner, right? That would be Socialism!
The new legislators got "the message" last November, and are in the budget cutting mode. Let's get rid of ALL public services, and adopt your suggestion, "Rachel". If you don't want to work, then you don't deserve to have a policeman, firefighter, or emergency care provider show up in your time of need.
Start cutting all those budgets and services. The drug lords we're propping up in Afghanistan will thank you.
...don't expect me to pay for it while you spend all your money on pot, beer and cigarettes!
I don't think anybody expects you to do anything but bitch, moan, and lie about the issue.
"Impotent"? Really? You didn't hear that the GOP CONTROLLED HOUSE just repealed this Fascist "Obamacare"?
Where it dies in the Senate. Impotent is the correct term.
I realize that reading and educating yourself is kind of out of the question for you, but you might look up "fascist" before you embarrass yourself further.
Speaking of embarrassing yourself, Jake, Rachel, Edna, do you think anyone believes these posts are from different people?
Solving the "pre-existing condition" problem does not require unconstitutional legislation
I have a feeling Obamacare is a hate-hate kind of thing. Republicans hate it because it goes too far, liberals hate it because it doesn't go far enough.
I don't like it because it not only leaves intact a system I think is broken, but it forces people into it with no guarantee that costs will be controlled.
On the other hand, I don't subscribe to the Republican myth that we have the greatest health system EV-ah! Having medical care so costly that one can't even think of getting treatment without insurance that far outpaces the cost of inflation is NOT beneficial to the American public.
My hope, cruel as it seems, was that Obamacare didn't pass, insurance would go up past the point of employers or employees to afford it, people would leave insurance companies, insurance companies would go bankrupt, the whole broken system we have now would implode, chaos would reign and then we could build something that was better and actually affordable for everyone.
Solving the "pre-existing condition" problem does not require unconstitutional legislation
The republicans have done NOTHING on this issue EVER. They have contributed NOTHING to the debate other than ignorant obstruction and complete denial of the problem.
They had a chance to participate in the process and instead became the party of "NO". Now that the bill is passed, they whine and gripe about a constitution they don't respect in the first place.
Constitution?
"Don't wave the Constitution in my face, it's just a GOD DAMNED PIECE OF PAPER".
WTF.....oh how wrong you are!
The republicans have been pushing for tort reform for years, and guess who's blocked it everytime. That's right, your beloved Liberal Democrats. Why? because they want control and they are in bed with the lawyers.
All I can say is thank god that Mr. Ahlberg lives outside the city limits. Otherwise I -er, Max - might have to face a real opponent when I -er, he - comes up for re-election!

Tort Reform. Welfare Cheats. Meth Heads."you spend all your money on pot, beer and cigarettes!"
BLAH BLAH BLAH...
Contributing NOTHING but ignorant obstruction and complete denial of the problem.
Like I said...
"I may disagree with you but I'm pretty sure you're not Hitler."
You know, for all the rancor in this blog, I'm surprised Godwin's Law doesn't come up very often, if at all.
"Capitalist said...

I'm so happy for you. Obviously you don't have to worry about yourself, family members or friends. Obviously you know none will face the utter financial ruin, bankruptcy, and more when a " pre-existing condition" worsens, and requires extensive/expensive medical care. To watch as everything they own is sold off so they can qualify for public medical health care.
Obviously you will stand at the hospital beds of your family members and friends, spouting on about how publicly assisted medical care is all so corrupt and unconstitutional.
And, obviously you have NO heart, and care nothing for any other human being. You would rather spend money on "principle" propping up dictatorships all over the world, than to consider "health care" a priority.
You just keep spouting self righteous rhetoric, until the day you look into the dying eyes of someone you care about. That day WILL come.
"My hope, cruel as it seems, was that Obamacare didn't pass, insurance would go up past the point of employers or employees to afford it, people would leave insurance companies, insurance companies would go bankrupt, the whole broken system we have now would implode, chaos would reign and then we could build something that was better and actually affordable for everyone."
And how many hundreds of thousands, or millions of people would have to suffer while you wait for this Hollywood scenario to materialize? You DO realize your post/approach requires this huge scale of human suffering??
Just so we're all on the same page, people, Kent is allowing me to post on this blog if I mow his lawn and wash his car on Saturdays.
"The Watcher said...

ROTFLMAO!!!!!
This is just too funny. Nice backhanded slur against the "real opponent" Max ran against in the last election! Well done.
Not to mention the other "real opponents" that lost in the last election, as well.
Thanks! I'll be laughing about this for the rest of the day. The anti-Max people shoot themselves in the foot, once again. So clever they be.
So you admit that Max is The Watcher?
Don't forget to get a permit to wash Kent's F#@%ing car, Max
Thanks for the advice, Anonymous 1:33. My good buddy, Peter Ripley, has the fix in for me on that score.

WTF? .. I know I don't need to point this out to you, but I will, hoping others will get a clue.
Look at what happens to a conversation about health care. The morons in our community think nothing about hijacking ANY and ALL attempts at conversations about making things better in Port Angeles. Their egos are so large that they can't see beyond the words on a screen, in this case, some juvenile display of "I showed you" disruptive post.
And so it goes.
I want things to change for the better. How do we get there?
"Look at what happens to a conversation about health care. The morons in our community think nothing about hijacking ANY and ALL attempts at conversations about making things better in Port Angeles."
Please: Don't confuse what happens here with a handful of people on this blog, with what happens in the real world. The trolls have the "power" to annoy here, if you let them. In the real world, they don't even have that ability.
Change is afoot in Port Angeles. That's why the few remaining trolls are so vocal. Their backward little town is (slowly but surely) changing - and growing out of their grasp.
"Change is afoot in Port Angeles."
Well said.
People, there are some folks on the City Council who are, to put it bluntly, so dumb they can't tie their own shoes. I name no names, but take a gander at the footwear of some of these folks and see who is wearing shoes with velcro staps!
***yawn**** don't some of you ever get tired of smelling your own farts? I'm so sick of the b.s. that passes as conversation on this blog. Who cares who can tie shoes? Who says that Max is even online, and WTF? Who cares if he is, or is not the "Watcher". It's a open identity on this thing....so you can chose any name you want....we've had several WTF's and, mostly likely, several watchers. Only BBC was himself, from what I could tell.
Just stop -- quit getting your white undies in a wad over this childish nonsense.
Our city council was elected, next time vote.
Who says that Max is even online, and WTF? Who cares if he is, or is not the "Watcher". It's a open identity on this thing....so you can chose any name you want....we've had several WTF's and, mostly likely, several watchers. Only BBC was himself, from what I could tell.
Gee, if you stop typing and start thinking, you would see that the WTF? Is in blue… Same guy, EVERY time. That’s because I took 5 minutes to set up a screen name. Still maintain my anonymity, but unlike “anonymous” you know it’s me. Rather than just blathering on, I proof and spell check what I write, out of respect for myself, and the people who read and write here. If everybody did that, the “troll” would be all on her own. Spelling and grammar Nazis would have to post ideas instead of lame corrections. And we could discuss issues instead of wasting time on bullshit.
I've never claimed to be Max Mania. Or Don Perry. Or Dan di Guilio. Or Peter Ripley. Or Cheri Kidd. Or Edna. I've never claimed to be anyone other than The Watcher.
I'm like WikiLeaks, only local.
After all, on an anonymous blog aren't we all The Watcher?
WTF, did you read the post? Or just see that your screen name was mentioned and couldn't help commenting and banging your own pot.
Yeeesh, you are as bad as the mania-crazed. Sure sure, whatever. I was commenting on the people who can't seem to stay on topic and at every opportunity dash off and start going on-and-on-and-on about Mania, or whatever. One track minds.
But, in YOUR CASE, I suspect you want some recognition. Great, didn't notice you were in BLUE. Sorry.
WTF, did you read the post?
...etc.
Yeah, I read the post and if you read mine you'd see that I offered a simple solution. If you can't take like five minutes of your day to guard against Trolls then don’t bitch about em, son. And yeah there are people on the city council that are too stupid to tie their own shoes. Or figure out how to run a tiny little town without spending millions to screw it up.
Sure sure, whatever. I was commenting on the people who can't seem to stay on topic and at every opportunity dash off and start going on-and-on-and-on about Mania, or whatever.
Unless “smelling your own farts” was the topic, I’d say you’ve strayed. In fact, “anonymous”, I have no idea if you’ve ever posted here before. See without a screen name, you could be anybody. Even “The Watcher”!
But, in YOUR CASE, I suspect you want some recognition. Great, didn't notice you were in BLUE. Sorry.
Well you’re kind of right. It’s about recognition. But not mine. I can’t recognize any of the rest of y’all, except BBC. Who you probably didn’t notice was in blue as well.
AAAAAAW --- how sweet. I just noticed in today's paper that the Port Commissioners gave Mr. "I'm too rich to need a health insurance policy" a Community Service Award for serving on the (now defunct) HarborWorks Board. They had the cheek to do this at the same meeting where they wrote off as uncollectible over half a million dollars the Port loaned to HarborWorks.
I guess one should not be surprised to learn that squandering public money and leading an organization into bankruptcy are traits the Port Commissioners naturally recognize as worthy of special recognition.
They had the cheek to do this at the same meeting where they wrote off as uncollectible over half a million dollars the Port loaned to HarborWorks.
But take heart, it was this same egocentric stupidity that caused both Rogers’ and Headrick’s ultimate political demise… I think people in PA have had about enough. These Port crooks got away with the Harborworks disaster, but I don’t think rubbing our noses in it is going to fly.
We definately need some sort of Nationalized health care. There are a lot of people who cannot afford health care or are getting jilted by the insurance companies.
However, the current health care law should be fine tuned.
Take out the waste, let people opt out if they choose, but if those that opt out get injured, then they need to go to jail.
Hmmm...
This is tough one, probably the best way forward for all parties is to form a cooperative.
Maybe Sequim, Clallam Bay, Joyce, Neah Bay, and Forks.
Pool resources and rebuild this facility so every coop member can use it.
Very similiar to what Bellingham did with its own Civic Field.
YES, they CAN die on the sidewalk...just like they would have back in the 30s or 40s. We can't take care of every turd leeching off those of us who work for a living.
Just scrape 'em off the sidewalk and keep on keepin on!

I hope ANYONE thinking about moving to Port Angeles, reads this first.
"And how many hundreds of thousands, or millions of people would have to suffer while you wait for this Hollywood scenario to materialize?"
I don't think having insurance companies shrivel up and die would be as bad as you make it out to be. Honestly, I don't. Just because it's the system we got don't make it the best one.
"I hope ANYONE thinking about moving to Port Angeles, reads this first."
Yep! Especially the homeless the liberals have been bringing in by the busload!
Rachel, Sally, whatever, Resident trolls have no idea what happened in the 20's 30's 40's.
Meanwhile, ummm, the healthcare needs some caps and it needs to not have the stupid HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS making out like bandits.
Who let them start setting their own prices...500% increase in less than 10 years. WTF? (No offense, WTF?) What happened to insurance commissioners, and state caps on health insurance. Wait, for that matter since when did health providers and health care providers get into being FOR PROFIT!!
Obamarama doesn't do much more than make us buy policies, from high way robbers.
What we don't need in this town is more "charities" like Serenity House buying up homes in decent neighborhoods and turning those homes into eight bed detox rehab centers for nutjobs and crazies from Seattle!
Downtown is flooded with dingbats from the Lee Hotel, now these "chairities" are turning Cherry Hill and other neighborhoods into roominghouses for the other nutters.
Why are these "charities" paying off the City Council big time?
The current healthcare bill is the result of political polarization. The Republicans have opposed any relief from the current situation, not because we don’t need relief, but because they cannot allow any progress that might result in a perceived “win” for the Democrats. They refused to work on the bill, just as they have refused to cooperate with their “opposition” on anything since the election. The same way the Democrats refuse to cooperate when the Republicans are in charge. No attempt at compromise, no effort to find common ground or interest. This approach isn’t “fascist” or “socialist”. It’s just stupid.
In this case, they’ll fight and screw around as people get sicker and go bankrupt. The healthcare bill is what it is because it was a rush job, hammered through without modification or oversight, out of fear the Republicans would find a way to sink it. (Like they did the first time around in the ‘90’s) Well, they got they’re bill passed, and they’ll fight for it just as hard as the other morons will fight against it. I applaud the Dems for even trying, but this isn’t youth soccer, you don’t get a trophy for just ´’trying”.

What you’re saying is the Homeless, Mentally Ill, and Developmentally Disabled have no right to live near you. These people pose little or no threat (from a statistical standpoint). Their only crime is that they’re kind of funny looking. You know why they have no income. You know this isn’t about welfare cheats and meth heads. You make these mean dishonest comments because you’re a mean dishonest person.
I read this book one time about This long haired radical guy who said stuff like: And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done [it] unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done [it] unto me. Sounds like dirty hippie socialist stuff to me… Anyway turns out decent people just like you got tired of his bullshit and killed him. So at least there was a happy ending.
