New Directional Signs in Downtown Port Angeles

Six directional signs have been installed in downtown Port Angeles on Front, Laurel, Oak and First Streets. City staff is seeking public comment on the new signs. Fifty-six more of these signs will be installed later this year, but first the City wants input from the public regarding the six prototype signs.

Public comments will be accepted through Friday, August 19th.

Yeah, I don't know what to say about those things. A lot of towns have them. I'd say it's a good idea except:

1. The economy stinks right now. Even if you get a grant, the idea of spending a bunch of money on a directional sign for tourists that aren't here leaves a bad taste in most people's mouths. But the flip side is materials are cheap right now and it provides a slight bump in employment.

2. Downtown Port Angeles is, what? six blocks? I can see this in Seattle or Spokane or even at Peninsula College, but there isn't enough downtown to truly get lost.

Directional signs and waterfront development are excellent ideas IF downtown grows and IF tourism grows. I'd like to think we're hedging our bets, taking some painful medicine now so we can take advantage of when the economy begins ramping up and people start traveling again. Make tourists want to stay in town instead of being so quick to pitch a tent out in goat territory. Of course that may not be what actually happens. This town is pretty famous for dropping the ball. How's the convention center on the Oak St property coming along?

It's an allusion to make you think you are an important part of what they have already decided to do with your money.

Never mind us, we know where the hell we are, ask the out of towners if they find them useful.

Hopefully, for getting the hell out of town.

Hehehehe, never going to happen, the owner won't sell it to anyone that may cut into his business, and I don't blame him.

Put a virtual theater there.

While they are at it they should ask the out of towners if they grasp that bike lane shit downtown.

A: The first six were built by Tube Art Group of Seattle for about $12,000,

B: Two grand a sign for no bigger than they are seems steep to me.

C: Having things made in Seattle isn't providing work for the artists/sign makers here.

I guess the city doesn't believe in shopping locally?

Maybe you would like to start the petition to exempt the City from following State Law which requires them to take the lowest bidder, in favor of local providers?
