Fire at New Peking Restaurant and Lounge

The New Peking Restaurant and Lounge in Port Angeles has been destroyed by a fire. The building burned early this morning.

Firefighters from three departments responded to the fire at around 3:20 a.m. and had the fire out by about 7:20 a.m. The fire was difficult to put out because of the way the building was constructed and the flammable materials inside the building.

No firefighters or restaurant employees were injured.

Well, gosh - that's sure convenient. And on the night of July 4th, too!

I wonder where the cocaine dealers will hang out now?

Cocaine? No METH dealers. Cocaine is too upscale for this area.
This county should (someday) figure out that allowing the ignorant idiots free access to fireworks and a lax attitude about what any idiot can shoot off is stupid. How many buildings must we have burn to the ground on the 4th before someone gets a clue that this town is OUT OF CONTROL on that day?
I'm sick of it. I'm sick of the bullshit with the M1000's and the other illegal stuff that people blow up in the neighborhoods, and the reality that people get hurt, and that animals get hurt, and that there is ALWAYS property damage. ALWAYS. We should confine it to the spit, and no where else - PERIOD.

I was never impressed with that dump, full of drunks and druggies. There’s speculation that the owner set the fire because it needed a lot of repairs, I don’t know, just saying is all.

The fire department should have let it finish burning up, it’s easier to just load ashes in dump trucks than to deal with the mess that is there now.

Pretty strange. Upholstery shop across the street next to the Pho restaurant burned 24 hours earlier. I don't think they torched the place, because according to KOMO news the owner was in there and a neighbor alerted him.

I can't say I feel that badly about the New Peking.

That place has always had a bad reputation... drug dealer hangout, noise violations and don't forget the "gansta" shooting a couple years ago. I'm not going to say it'll be missed. There probably should be dive where people can go for stuff like that, but not near residences. Out in the boondocks where the only people they hurt are themselves.

I am very sad to see a fine establishment gone…burned to the ground. I have been a steady customer of the New Peking for over a year now…and I have to say the bad reputation the restaurant had from earlier times was simply not the case during the time I frequented the restaurant. Most of the clientele were serious pool players, with the addition of the younger set on Saturday evenings to dance and listen to the music. Although the music was loud…the crowd never was…nor did I witness any drug activity or see many intoxicated customers during my visits. The owners and the employees made me feel welcome and greeted me by name every time I stepped through the door, as they did with most of their regulars. …it was more like “family” … and I always felt safe! I am a single senior female who enjoys shooting pool…but it is hard to find a place where I can walk in...order a drink…and shoot some pool without getting harassed or made to feel uncomfortable…this is not the case with the New Peking!!!
I am, as I repeat myself, very sad to see this establishment gone. I hope they will rebuild. Anyone who is leaving comments as to the drugs and alcohol abuse coming from this fine restaurant evidently had not been there recently, or you would have known the reputation was invalid…it is…was…a fine restaurant/bar with very fine upstanding owners and employees!!!

Boy! It must really suck to be you, or anyone who has the misfortune of having to be around you! I am sorry that life is so darned rotten for you and your family.

No, I`m so happy, my family is happy, and my friends are happy. Everyone is happy. Aren`t you happy, too.

Why are you saying unhappy things.

I am going to guess that the building will not be rebuilt, that it was under insured, and that the revenues, just aren't going to cover a phoenix like rebirth.
Plus, if they rebuild they will be reassessed, and the taxes are going to skyrocket. I don't see it coming back.
So much for "the jobs". I figure we'll be looking at a burned out wreck for quite a while.

I have known the owners, Charlie, Lilly and Kevin for many years. I also play league pool there (and other taverns) for 25 years. I can say that I never saw any drug deals go down there because the owners would not condone such things. They were very aware of what went on in the building. They were most generous in thier friendship and always made people feel welcomed.

I can see that all of the nay- sayers here have never really tried to frequent this establishment and see how it really operated. Sure...there were isolated incidents over the years...but that is the same with the other taverns...it is the human condition when consuming large amounts of alcohol....the personallity changes...usually for the worst.

So...Charlie, Lilly and Kevin, I love you and wish you all the very best. I hope you decide to rebuild, you have a very large group of friends that have enjoyed you for many years....now where are we going to play pool? :)

Forever your friend.....

Jackson

Interesting that when bad things happen they often do actually create jobs and employment. This sure is a goofy planet.

Jackson, you don't see drug exchanges anywhere unless you are really aware and looking for such things. I'll bet a good undercover cop could go to most any bar in this town and score a bust.

I think the Negatrons came from behind the dark side of the moon, and destroyed the New Peking Restaurant and Lounge.

As much as I don't want to feed their negative energy, I must say that I think we are responsible. If only we each held positive thoughts in our heads enough, we could keep those Negatrons away from Port Angeles. They would have been kept safely away on the dark side of the moon, and the New Peking Restaurant and Lounge would still be there for us all.. including Jackson.. to enjoy.

Chipmunks, we have to try harder. We're just not positive enough.

Let's all think of lollipops! That will make things much better. That might keep those Negatrons safely confined to the dark side of the moon.

You haven't noticed that the money mongers are pulling the money away from us and taking it somewhere else? Or at least keeping it to themselves.

How will being positive and singing The Big Rock Candy Mountain fix this?

I know about Port Angeles. I have my gun, and have had to shove it in some nutjobs face more than once.

It's in Utah, seen there, seen it, I don't want everyone coming here, they can go there though.

It's not just PA, it's the rock we live on, you should have a gun no matter where you live on it.

Guess it's a town of nutjobs.

Ratio wise, no more than anywhere else.

I went to the lawnmower races in Port Hadlock today, boy, they were so fun, we should get a track here, I'll talk about them some on my post in the morning.

Did you read the comments under todays' PDN about PenPly from former K-Ply purchasing agent "Laurie Andersen"? She says the stacks of logs there are not associated with Pen Plys' operation, as they buy the skins they use. The logs, if I read the article correctly, are for some other deal that Grant Munro is involved with, that Lauie calls a "Smoke Screen".

Given his past associations, I wouldn't be surprised.

"Debbie Downer"? Are you still obsessing about that woman you chased off this blog months ago? Again, another classic symptom of mental health problems.

You don't see people here making fun of you, mocking you? Another sign of mental health problems.

Yes, I can see you are so dense and self absorbed.

"Deal with it "downer", you are a coward who posts anonymous drivel. You are powerless. That is the choice you made."

What psycho fantasy does this reveal?

Does this reveal that YOU are trying to achieve some position of "power" by driving people you disagree with off this blog site? What "power"? This is a blog!

And what "choice" do you think I made that makes me "powerless"?

If you care to look beyond yourself, you'll see that the vast majority of people who post here, do so as "Anonymous". This has always been so. And the vast majority are critical of the status quo.

So, which "Anonymous" are you obsessing about? All of us? You think it is okay to insult the majority of the people who post here? You think it is okay to waltz in here, and condemn everyone who posts as "Anonymous" as "cowards"?

Go talk to the folks up on 8th St. They have services you can benefit from.

Maybe someday you'll figure out that people make judgments based upon what they see someone post on the internet. Potential employers see what people post, and decide that is not the kind of person they want working for them, for example.
