Border Patrol Makes Arrest in Front of P.A. Farmers Market

Hung Han, a Korean citizen and Sequim resident, was arrested by the Border Patrol around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday in front of the Port Angeles Farmers Market. He was in the process of helping his parents pack up their produce stand at Gateway Center. He was transferred to the I.C.E. detention center in Tacoma.

A farmers market vendor who witnessed the entire event said:

“I was shocked to see productive members of society arrested.”

Obviously a high profile threat to the American way.

We taxpayers really do need to be spending millions for these services, to be protected from such intolerable crimes. Keep cutting social services and programs like lunch for school kids, so we can continue funding the Border Patrol on the Olympic Peninsula.

Local, USBP news blackout- instantly lifted if Ahmed Ressam, two amphibious Canadian marijuana smugglers or a Korean farmer's market vendor are captured.

Maybe the USBP just says they can't report arrests because there have not been enough to justify a ten-fold increase in agents and an upgrade to a 50 agent station.

Looks like when they have something to brag about- arrests are reported- otherwise a news blackout is in place.

1) Learn to speak and read English.
2) Get your paperwork and documentation in order.

That way you don't get arrested.

He was no threat, but he did have six years to get his paperwork in order. It's like me saying I don't need a drivers license and insurance.

Now, now, negatrons and Anonymice! Let's cut out all the doom and gloom, buck up and see things in positive, cheerful perspective. A little sunshine chases away those dark clouds of sorrow!

It's like my good friend Bob Marley once said to me - "Mon, dis ganja ... she's all reeeet!" So you see? Everything really is just fine and dandy!

Now keep those chins up, roll up your sleeves and let's all make Port Angeles a place we can not only be proud of, but happy in!

People, people! This was THEATER, it wasn't taking a threat out. I'm sure they knew full well where he lived, and I'm certain that he will NOT get deported. The BP has been looking for opportunities to make the front page, and find a crowd. The problem is...crowds are hard to come by in this hamlet.
B'jebus, folks, get a clue. There is not reason to have 50 agents, and the bullpoopie is all about trying to make a ripple and get the knee jerks to jump around saying "good work good work".

I don't feel a need to be happy in Port Angles, I'm one of the town grumps and a lot of folks like me just fine that way. Every town needs a few grumps in it.

BBC, Curmudgeons Anonymous is looking for a spokesman and also someone to teach an "Advanced Grumpy" class. Go for it, it's a cushy job.

Yeah, Billy, just realize your concerns for the way things are can be marginalized by the term "Curmudgeon" and you should just shuffle off to the sidelines so Corporate America can continue its' rampage on America as we once knew it.

Randall is so wise, as always. Silly for any of us to be concerned about anything. Drink the Kool-Aid they offer, go out and consume as if there were no tomorrow, smile, and be happy. Join "Curmudgeons Anonymous" if you have any negative feelings.

Don't get in the way, because we are told everything is wonderful.

Thank you, RCP. And thank you for being such a positron amongst so many negatrons.

Debbie Downer and her Doom and Gloomers may choose to see things in a negative perspective, but I (and you) choose to look on the positive, sunny side of things. That is why we (you and I) are spiritual being of a higher plane.

I will, however, not give up in making Debbie Downer see the positive light and change her dark outlook to a brighter, sunnier vision. And that goes for you, too, Billy!

A new day is dawning in Port Angeles, one full of the promise of tomorrow which, as we know, is only a day away. Together we can cast off the dark veil of Doom and Gloom and welcome the sunshine. Here comes the sun, Port Angeles!

Fecking nazi swine would arrest their own grandmothers.

Seeing as how they're spawned under a rock somewhere that isn't a problem for them.

It's a hard rain gonna fall.

how come the business doesn't get fined for this? Employers are required to check for a social security number/green card. Seems to me the burden is on the employer, more than the individual. If the family members KNEW this person was not in compliance, then they are complicit in breaking the laws.
Meanwhile, the entire issue is WHY IS THE BORDER PATROL dealing with one person at a time, and enforcing laws in such a bone head and silly manner? Shouldn't our Employment Development District be doing a better job enforcing the laws on the books? What about the INS? What about the IRS?
The problem is in the way that this issue is viewed, especially by the farmer's market. It isn't that the BP (Homeland Security) arrested an undocumented worker, it's that an undocumented worker was not paying taxes, contributing wages to the state, or the federal, and that the business was KNOWINGLY breaking the laws. This hurts all of us -- why we have budget cutbacks, and no health care for low income, and our basic necessities have been cut to the bone, and the schools are hurting. Who cares that undocumented workers are hard workers? The issue is that they are not paying their share. Shame on the manager of the Farmer's Market for her boneheaded remarks, but also shame on the various government agencies which we fund who neglected to make sure that laws were followed. This is NOT a Homeland Security issue, and should not be.

Yes, much could be done here, in the way of administrative measures- seems like public takedowns by men with guns would be a last resort.

It takes a fingerprint background check to work at a local school district- Lunch Lady, grounds keeper, bus driver, etc.

The school district HR Dept. suffers no confusion about fake documents.

The school district processes the fingerprint background check for new employees in the HR Dept.- they are not operating guilty until proven innocent checkpoints and roadblocks to check documents.

What prevents the use of a bogus SSN?

An Honor System.

The "quantity vs. quality" administrative methods used by business and government make consumers vulnerable.

It should be just as hard to use a fake social security number as it is to use a fake lottery ticket-

Try passing a fake lottery ticket anywhere in the state and see what it’s like to run up against a system that is designed to prevent fraud.
