Tinfoil Hat-Wearers Unload on Clallam County Commissioners

I usually try to keep my personal opinions out of this blog, but this is beyond absurd.

For three years Clallam County has been a member of the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI). ICLEI is a worldwide association of more than 1,200 local governments that are “committed to sustainable development.” Here is the organization's website.

The local "Black Helicopters!" brigade descended on the Clallam County Commissioners earlier this week, asking that Clallam County cut ties to the ICLEI. Quick, before a gang of jackbooted United Nations thugs comes storming into YOUR home and steals your property rights.

[sigh]

doesn't sound implausible to me. After all the WTO protesters were considered crazy, and look what that has brought to us. And, then the NAFTA hasn't done any good at all, except the sucking sound of jobs going to cheaper places.
I'd say unless you really research out what this is, and why they're protesting, then you are just knee jerk reacting. Names are often misleading, and people are brain dead.

That just about says it all.

Taking my property rights would require getting past my guns.

Beyond that, I'm thankful this area has little chance of a greatly improved economy or things would be even worse.

I don't suppose that Jim Harborworks mcIntire running for county commissioner on the R ticket has anything to do with the local R party's sudden interest in attending county commissioner meetings and flailing lamely to find something to criticize? Do they really think that this anti-ICLEI campaign will get them favorable attention? I think the majority of local voters see this stunt as embarrassing. Ranks right up there with the new story about branding local children.

I think you hit this dead on. Look at who the local Republicans have run as candidates in the recent past. Remember Sue Fordes' campaign when she ran against Tharinger years ago? Full of the same "Black Helicopter" rhetoric. And, she almost won.

The local Republicans understand their constituents. All they have to do is frame something as a threat to "property rights", regardless of fact and reality, and they have guaranteed votes.

I bought a 10X10 foot shelter at Dells Farm Supply in Sequim yesterday. I have no idea where it was made, there's no statement on the box or paperwork saying where it was made.

It appears to be of pretty good quality but aren't products supposed to be labeled as too the place of origin?

Never mind, I spotted some fine print, it was made in China.

If anybody bothers to look through the ICLEI website they'll see that it is full of words like "sustainable", "resource management", "environmental quality", "justice" etc. Now throw in Glenn Beck's chalkboard and a penchant for believing that the dust bunnies under the bed are monsters and you have the recipe for mobilizing our modern social Luddites (otherwise known as "the Republican base").

Cast aside the facts that no new jobs have been created in the US of A. Ignore that past policies have obligated us all to huge amounts of debt for many years to come. Our fearless RCP leader tells us everything is wonderful and getting better every day.

I feel SO happy. Don't you?

In honor of our RCP, please don't post anything negative.
