Mayor Cherie Kidd
The City Council has elected Cherie Kidd to be the next Mayor of Port Angeles. Brad Collins will be Deputy Mayor. Both votes were unanimous.

You mean, compared to Larry?
As you probably know, she alone stood up and asked questions, and took flak for doing so. Instead of rubber stamping what was put in front of her. Then Max joined to Council, and asked questions, too. Now, with Sissi, I hope she will, too.
I've known Larry and Cherie for years, and I think Cherie is going to be a great mayor.
Interesting that when Don Perry was on the council nobody on this forum called him stupid (even though he clearly was the dimmest bulb in the council array), but it's fine to call Cherie Kidd such names. Sexism reigns in Port Angeles. I bet Anon 7:06 must either carry a gun or drive one of those big noisy trucks in order to bolster his weak self-image. Real men don't need to denigrate women to be manly. Your weakness is showing, Anon 7:06.
I've heard Cherie Kidd speak publicly, i feel sorry for her.

It's not sexism, she isn't the sharpest knife out there... And I agree with Anon 3:08, she is a very poor speaker and communicator.
But she will fit right in, Mayors who will do nothing during their term.

Well, I bet Cherie is smart enough to know that you should put a period at the end of a sentence.
And, now follow me on this, if Cherie is SO stupid, yet was re-elected by over 66% of those voting in this last election...Are you really saying that the majority of voters in Port Angeles are stupid? Because that's what it sounds like you're saying, and that's an insult of a whole different magnitude.
What do mayors do?
Among other things, they have authority over setting agendas for council meetings, have the authority to decide which council members will serve on committees, and they run the council meetings. If mayors wish to act like potted plants and have the city manager and staff run everything, then the manager and staff will only be too happy to do so. If the mayor wants to actually influence the city's policies and actions, then the mayor is in a position to do so, especially if the mayor has the support of a majority of the council members.
See, Cherie is stupid because she questions staff. Everyone knows they actually run the city. Cherie is stupid because she still thinks the public, through elected representatives, get to influence policies and projects in the city.
She should just shut up, and do what she is supposed to do.
People need to take their preconceived notions and toss them in favor of paying attention and using logic. Cheri listens the community. She questions things no one else notices. So what if she giggles when she speaks? That has 0 bearing on what kind of mayor she will be or how intelligent she is. I think she will be a great mayor.

Haha, it is kind of true. Have we had a decent mayor in the last 10 years? How are the unemployment rates? Graduation rates?
I would say you hit the nail on the head by saying the majority of Port Angeles' people are a bit dumb.
Anami. I agree with you. I've worked with Cherie on many volunteer projects in this community over the last 8 years, and I know how devoted, how hard she works, and how smart she really is.
People are entitled to their opinions. The actual work people like Cherie do, reveal the truth.
its a figurehead, nothing actually happens from the "mayor's" office. If it did, they'd fire some key people in city hall and get some new blood. Oh wait! The mayor can't do squat in this burg.
