Forks and Twilight

Forks' Twilight-related tourism reached its peak in 2010, when 73,000 visitors checked in at the Forks Visitor Information Center.  Last year that number dropped to 45,000.

But Forks still has a lot more tourists now than it did before Twilight.  In 2005, the year the first Twilight book was released, Forks had 5,575 visitors.

The Stephanie Meyer Day Committee is working to keep tourists coming in. A committee spokesperson said:

“The committee is trying to keep people coming to Forks.  Our slogan is:  'Come for Twilight. Stay for Forks.'”

Not my cup of tea. Actually I openly mock the series. But, hey, if it helps Forks why not?

But, obviously, a few others have been interested.

And you wonder why the country is in the trouble it is!?!?

Why are we in trouble? Perhaps it IS because Twilight is seen as "Tweaky". Or, more politely, the phenomena has evolved into something that attracts tweakers. Perhaps all secular fiction aimed at our youth will evolve into tweakdom. The "creative" highschool senior who reads Twilight, is in sad shape - he will be relegated to a life in a Forks trailer park, regularly consuming alcohol and methamphetamine, unlike the senior who reads Left Behind.

How about, "Hey, Fork You, Too!"

I have always wondered what the Twihards must think when, after coming from other states, other countries, they first pull into Forks and see the town in all its...glory. "Holy shit! I can't believe I paid good money to fly all the way from Tokyo/Berlin/London/Boise to see THIS!"

Yes, Forks IS so impressive.

But, what kind of bright-light thinks "Twilight" is anything other than the product of a writers mind? What do these visitors think they are going to see? Movie stars? Real life vampires?

They deserve Forks, if they are so stupid as to spend time and money to go there!

Tomorrow night the City Council will be presented with motions to facilitate proceeding with the "CSO" project, the most expensive project in the citys' history. Most all residents in Port Angeles will be paying for these millions, for years to come.

Sissi Brusch campaigned against this project, and was elected.

Let's see if she follows through, now elected. Betsy Wharton lasted about a year before she caved into the "status quo". Will Sissi last one month, before she caves in?

We vote for the "change" candidates offer us, but what do we get?
