Sissi Bruch Opposed to Sewer Project

Sissi Bruch has joined Max Mania in his opposition to Port Angeles' plan for eliminating sewage overflows.

They both voted No at the last City Council meeting regarding three contracts for the $41.7 million project.  The project is scheduled to begin in June.  Sissi Bruch and Max Mania both say that faulty and inadequate infrastructure are the root of the problem, and this root cause is not being addressed by the project.

It's good to see a Council member question something coming from management.

Not much of a surprise, as she campaigned against this project to get elected.

But, the city's own data shows this project is a waste of time and money. BIG money.

As the PDN article says, the cause is stormwater getting into the sewer system and flooding it, which causes the overflows.

The city says 41% of houses have their roof downspouts connected to the sewage system. Duh! I wonder why the sewer system floods??

But, the city isn't trying to keep the rain out of the system, they just want to spend $41 million to run it through the sewage treatment plant. Of course, that $41 million does not include ongoing costs.

And, if you go to the city website, and listen to the joint meeting this last Jan. 9th between the city council and reps from Dept. of Ecology, you will hear them admit this project is more about replacing stuff they haven't budgeted for. Lots of the "CSO" project spends big money on things that have nothing to do with the sewage overflows.

But, the majority of the city council members are just going along with this. Going along with the deception.

Sissi and Max are correct, and I applaud them for voting "no".
A major problem with the CSO project is that it is being handled by Glenn Cutler, who has wasted obscene amounts of money on out of town consultants who specialize in bilking the taxpayers and ratepayers.

67 overflows a year.

Hum....

Dat's an average of 5.5833333 a month.

I don't have a solution short of getting rid of half the monkeys here, but I admire the problem.

Yeah. It rains just as hard in July, as it does in December.
