Bill to Allow Sales Tax Increases Without Public Vote

HB 1919, if passed, will allow county governments to raise sales taxes without getting approval from the county's voters.  The money from the sales tax increase would be used for public safety:  law enforcement, criminal prosecution, fire protection, etc.

This bill is supported by Rep. Steve Tharinger (D-Sequim).

How ironic. Tharinger wants to impose higher sales taxes on individual citizens, yet in another bill he supports exempting Nippon Industries from having to pay ANY sales taxes on the hog fuel it purchases to power the mill.
What a hypocrite and a disappointment he is.

Steve Tharinger doesn't give a shit about the public. And Steve Tharinger does give a shit about getting money. Therefore, this makes sense.

Funding our state and local governments with sales tax is unsustainable.

Zac at the PDN comments has the right idea. Reduce the B&O taxes that hurt small businesses. Replace the state portion of sales taxes with a steeply graduated income tax. Don't let huge businesses like Microsoft, Amazon and Boeing play accounting games to avoid paying taxes while benefiting from our infrastructure.

It also boggles my mind that any politician would commit career suicide like this. We've had an anti-tax climate for years and he thinks trying to bypass the voters is a good idea.

He sure backed off that bill which would ban wood burning fireplaces in a hurry!

Another self-serving careerist.

I agree with Anon 10:15. It boggles my mind that Steve would commit political suicide like this. Hard to comprehend.

Anon 8:47, would you care to refute the arguments or is it easier to just call people names?

Come on feds, help us clean up our corrupt county!

Something like this, $3,500 isn't enough, figuring 10% of $35,000. She's on the roster, but her case sheet says she's out. SHIT. FUCKING SHIT.

No, we all know from the posts from this guy with a hard on for Max, that Max is really Satan. He is just getting re-aquainted with his evil doing, world dominating skills by serving as a City Council member in that world influencing, trend setting place called Port Angeles.

Yep, if one has evil intent for the world, Port Angeles is clearly a starting place for you.
