Illegal Campsites Removed near Downtown Port Angeles

The Port Angeles Police Department and Clallam County Sheriff's Department combined forces to clear out illegal encampments near the downtown Port Angeles business district.  They targeted four campsites located near Front Street, along the Waterfront Trail, under City Pier and near Estuary Park.

About 2,900 pounds of accumulated trash and debris were removed.  There were no arrests or citations.

I feel safer already.

Will they arrest the homeless, too?

Perhaps they will be packaging the homeless up and sending them back with the Victoria City Council members as keepsakes of Port Angeles?

3 non CG helicopters last night, the PDN is fanning the flames of teabag hysteria, is not working this time in their comment section. Best comment: "did the mayor authorize this flyover?"

It's a "mystery" if you are a fucking moron.

A. I would not want to be homeless on that beach. Or in the woods. Good timing, I must say, an operation like that, in an unexpected rainy spell in August. Genius! Maybe we can go after illegal Chinese knock off imports during the Toys for Tots drive?

B. Pot is legal here, in WA! Nearly! Almost! Wow!

C. Ok, the serious stuff... Just the notion that Max is in or NEAR the PNW, I feel better. His "spirit" will live on here, in policy, and in the hearts of those that loved him, and we, Port Angeles, will join the current century soon. Plus, Bhutan does not deserve him!

I live between the airport and CG base and it does get pretty annoying to have helicopters flying over almost every night between 9 and 11 PM when I'm trying sleep.

Do helicopters have to file flight plans like airplanes? It seems ridiculous that we can't identify them with our huge border patrol presence. Oh wait, it's need to know and the public should shut up unless they're praising ARE TROOPS!

So - almost all of the local places that Mayor Kidd will show off to the visiting officials from Victoria Friday are outside city limits: Lake Crescent Lodge; the Elwha; Hurricane Ridge, etc. The two items on the tour that are within city limits are the new waterfront sidewalk and a police department demonstration of how they use wireless communications.
WHY ISN'T THE PORT ANGELES FINE ARTS CENTER INCLUDED ON THE TOUR?!!?

LOL! Even the City "leadership" has to lead tours outside the city to try to impress visitors! LOL!

So Sequim is installing wayfinding signs, new trash cans and benches throughout the town. Port Angeles still has the few wayfinding signs they installed awhile ago, asked for public opinion on and promised they'd install a bunch more afterwards and then forgot about the entire thing.

Oh well, what are they going to point to? Homeless encampments? Vacant buildings? Rehab centers? Worksource?

Looked like a typical day in Port Angeles for the visitors from Victoria to enjoy. Cloudsm overcast. Was sunny in Victoria when they left.

The new cement sidewalk along the water must really have been a mind blower for them. Port Angeles really knows how to make things attractive, compared to the Inner Harbor in Victoria.

What did they say was going on in Victoria this weekend? The Fringe Festival, with 50 different theatrical shows being performed, most for free. The International Blues festival, going on all weekend, most of those shows for free. The Victoria Classic Boat show is happening, too.

Obviously, Mayor Kidd HAD to take the delegation up to Hurricane Ridge, where the clouds made reality hard to see.

Why would anyone from Victoria want to go to the PAFAC?

And look at what? That huge bird's nest or that weird structure with the plastic water bottles dangling from it?

Victoria has a real MUSEUM and so many wonderful galleries. The PAFAC wouldn't impress them in the slightest.

"Oh, is this your art center thing? Really? You folks do a lot of acid here, don't you?"

Regarding the suspected heroin overdose in Forks, the authorities report: “We don’t suspect anything criminal in nature.”

That's pretty huge. The only history with the law the guy had was drug charges. And the paper reported that, sort of. A teabagger did shout in the comment section LAST TIME I CHECKED HEROIN WAS ILLEGAL...

It's also huge, beyond the fact that the guy can die without the paper/law branding him a criminal...that in ten years or so, there will be no more overdoses, at least in WA hopefully, people will be able to "maintain" in a more safe manner. And we will save tons of money, and tons of heartache, by not locking up or going after ALL responsible drug users. And if they can get their drugs in a responsible manner, that takes that out of the equation too - the fact that they have to get the drugs from "organized crime" now.

1:30 - Vitamin A historically is good for art. Beer bad. Crack bad. Coke, really bad. Wine/Cheese - "neutral". Pot, oh, please, it's so obvious.

Oh, I see. Acid would make it look better. I think all of our natural beauty distracts from the art, if we are getting picky.

We do have the Olympic National Park and they don't. Serious backcountry backpackers there know this - people that like to hike in old growth and not see clear cut in every direction and they visit the Port Angeles area often. Now if they spend money here, another issue. Ask either of them, they will tell you!

Come to Port Angeles Canadians! Where you can smoke all the pot you want to, and hike in beautiful old growth, with thousands of beautiful creeks and waterfalls all untouched except for wildlife tromping through it - with no clear cuts, and NO PEOPLE EITHER! Just can't do both, smoke and hike in the ONP at the same time! (clarification coming soon, according to the "tourist bureau")

PS - Be careful driving.... :( And remember, the forest rangers are just doing their job, being marijuana enforcement officers(by day)....and catching poachers...I hear a bunch were caught up at Appleton pass (sarcasm).

...funny stuff people....

...or sad...

Anyone see the new sidewalk? The photos on the PDN site this morning are all washed out. Pitiful. They don't even try. Nothing against the photographer, bet the editor picked the shitty ones, or washed them out before "publishing". Jerks. Was a nice day, too. Can't be as ugly in person, as in the pictures? Guess that's why they kicked out the homeless, for the "delegation".

I love how the PDN article says the Victoria city council found Port Angeles "beautiful" during their visit...But the article itself is VERY short, and VERY light on quotes from them, other than their (obviously very polite) mayor. What a joke Port Angeles is.

Anon 11:10 Have you spent any time on the West Coast of Vancouver Island? Absolutely beautiful. Rivals anything on the Oly Pen.

And, have you hiked around the Canadian Rockies, east of Vancouver? Reminds me of the European Alps. Incredible.

Ever been to Banff? Makes the ONP look tired. Did you explore that arts center they have there? They provide people with accomodations, space and supplies for people to develop creative ideas there. If you don't know about that place, check it out.

http://www.youtube.com/user/TheBanffCentre

Now, THERE is something for the leadership in Clallam/Washington to explore. A creativity development center like they have at Banff.

Oh, come now. No one can seriously think Port Angeles has anything, compared to Victoria. Everything of possible interest in Port Angeles could be fit on one somewhat seedy street in Victoria. No exaggeration.

The new sidewalk in Port Angeles? Does anyone actually think that is in anyway in the same league of the walkway around Victorias' Inner Harbor? Not even remotely.

It is like trying to put a crappy old bicycle and a brand new Lamborghini in the same comparison. Completely different world. Comparisons not valid, nor possible.

No wonder the quotes were virtually non-existent, beyond the prefunctory polite exchanges.

Have you heard the news clips about the radiation leaks discovered at that crippled nuke plant in Japan? The newly discovered leaks have radiation leveles that "will kill anyone within 4 hours".

Two years after the earthquake/tsunami.

Fabulous!

But it still sucks.

The College has better art exhibits.
