More Details about Port of Port Angeles Goings-on, courtesy of Sequim Gazette

The PDN hasn't printed this, but yesterday's article in the Sequim Gazette has gone viral.

The PDN has done some good reporting on the recent Port of Port Angeles scandals, but the Sequim Gazette story goes much deeper.  Behind-the-scenes collaboration between Colleen McAleer and Jim Hallett, just-released e-mails obtained via a Public Records Act request check it out.

Incredibly SHAMEFUL behavior by the Commissioner, but putting it in writing was just dumb!

Yeah, and Colleen runs unabashedly for office!

As we see, they know the public is too self absorbed to care.

Jeff Robb and his cronies are trying their best to smear McAleer and Hallett, crying "conspiracy" as a ploy to deflect attention from Robb's well-documented transgressions and shortcomings as Port ED. It is unbalanced and unfair reporting for the Gazette article to imply that Robb is blameless and that the whistleblower was wrong to try to get somebody above Robb (the Port Commission President) to listen to her.
This reminds me of the dilemna faced by military women raped by their commanding officers whose only recourse is to report the rape to ---- their commanding officers.
I think that the Gazette's story would be different or nonexistent if the whistleblower and the investigating attorney were males. Shame on the Gazette (which is now owned and run by the same team as the PDN --- and so just another avenue for the PDN to insinuate its agenda and biases under a different banner).

I don't really know what to make of this. Did the previously hired investigator not think to request emails? Are people still stupid enough to put incriminating things in email when they are subject to disclosure laws?

It's time to dissolve the port by petition.

This is nothing compared to the story making headlines at the PDN this morning! Someone downtown has sold 100 incredibly unimaginative yet tasteless (in a very unfriendly PA way) T-shirts! And someone in Oklahoma bought one! Wow!

The whole Port story is over my head. Every time anyone of those assholes opens their piehole, it confuses the issue even further and thus insures a steady stream of paychecks to them all for doing nothing...or WORSE. Robbing us blind, and getting paid to sit around all day and backstab each other. Get it? ROBBing? Har har. I did learn reading the reader comments below the Gazette article that it's a great time to buy a house! (or perhaps sell, not sure - pretty sure it must be one or the other)

Right. Sheila Roark Miller, who admits she broke the law, faces no charges, because let's face it, she's a member in good standing of the Good Ol' Boys Club. But others, like Max Mania and his wife, who broke no laws, face endless persecution by the Good Ol' Boys goons. Great. Wonderful.

Reduce Port Commissioner terms of office to four years! Find and sign a petition to place this proposition on the November ballot!
If the proposition passes, then if McAleer is elected she will serve for four years instead of six, and her term will be up at the same time as Hallett's. So by 2018 both will either be gone, or if they run for reelection, voters can decisively say whether they deserve another term.
Blank term reduction petitions are at Port Book & News in Port Angeles, and at Ken Hays office in Sequim.

Hasn't hit any PA news outlets yet. KONP has a link to the Seattle Times article, but that ultra clunky site might crash your computer.

Calhoun's smear campaign is too obvious, and too typical. It is pathetic how this county is ever the soviet of Western Washington. Voters, mark your calendars now, way in advance, for the day to vote Calhoun out. There will be old boy cronies debunking the truth; don't let the vultures win.

In the meantime - sign the petition at Port Book and News or Mr. Hays office. Only takes a few minutes to stop in; parking, to do so, is easier in Sequim.

Ah, now we see the PDN re-type the same article. Why go out and investigate a story yourself, when you know nobody really cares.

Easier to type out what you're told, and be a cheerleader for area business interests.

I'm just not seeing the controversy here. Not advocating for either "side", but how is it inappropriate for a staff member to solicit the Board President if the compaint is with the very person who it would otherwise go to? I've read the earlier reports, and it was widely determined that a hostile environment existed that also had a history of retaliatory action against staff who complained (direct comment from the HR Director). So it begs two questions that the conspiracy theorists have yet to address:

1) Given the circumstances noted above and throughout the reports, what would have been a more appropriate way for the employee to handle this (other than resign)?

2) If some back room dealing or act of malficience truly occured - what's the true motive / end game here? Revenge? Power? Those seem pretty weak considering the employee is forfeiting a well-paying job if successful in her campaign.

Perhaps someone can spell this out for me, but I'm otherwise missing the punchline here.

This reminds me of the time that city councilperson yelled at someone at a birthday party or a ribbon cutting, I forget, and that realtor got into her emails because she thought she was a nasty Nellie yelling at that person? And it was in the paper? Maybe it was a guy. Same bullshit tone.

Perhaps a good cause, the "Hurricane Ridge Educational Foundation", but that Beerfest ad/video on the PDN is annoying.

And doubly annoying since the event is HISTORY! Did the nursing home with creepy clown close? Look mommie, a clown, grandma will love that place! Drunk girl in fake snake skin tube top? Creepy clown? Toss up. Maybe if they got another advertiser, they could run a poll, on which is more annoying.

Speaking of the ridge New pic for us at the weather channel. Sort of reflects the weather today. If that's a webcam shot from today, very cool:

anon at 9:18, my what a twist on the reality. There are no well documented transgressions.See it for what it is.McAleer and Hallet have a relationship that is much too close and conspired a frivolis whistleblow for their personal gain. The investigation should have included Hallet's personal email to McAleer and it did not. The investigation is certainly fundamentally flawed. A new investigation is in order before the election
