Port Commissioner John Calhoun Demands "Action" on Lincoln Park Trees

Port of Port Angeles Commissioner John Calhoun said future funding for Fairchild Airport improvements could be in jeopardy if Lincoln Park's "runway-obstructing" trees aren't cut down.  All three commissioners have voted to approve a contract for extending an access road to hangars at the airport.  But John Calhoun said:

“These kinds of investments depend on a viable airport.  Without success solving that aerial navigation easement, I'm not too enthusiastic about proceeding down this line too much longer.  I think we have to have the issue resolved before I can continue to support such projects.”

A local group, Save The Trees, has collected 2,100 signatures on a petition to keep the Lincoln Park trees.

Balderdash! And a pox on Calhoun and his cronies!
The Port in the 1980's bought 100-plus acres of the "Critchfield property" adjacent to the airport for the then-stated purpose of eventually expanding the runway to the west. Then in 2008 they declared this acreage to be surplus and sold it - without first getting an appraisal or even putting it up for bids - to the Sprint Boaters. Then Port Commissioners demand that city residents must sacrifice Lincoln Park so that the airport runway can be expanded to the east, instead.
So - Port Commissioners prefer to destroy a landmark heritage park with majestic tall trees rather than conform to the original plan of expanding the runway to the west. Why the change of heart, one must ask?!? Interesting that Dan Morrison, one of the buyers of the Critchfield property, has been one of the most vociferous defenders of Jeff Robb during Robb's recent troubles. Wasn't Robb the airport manager or facilities manager during the times of these property transfers and initial tree-cutting demands?

I think that only the wealthy want the airport expanded so they can fly in with bigger toys.

I have a question, is Westport, or whoever owns those pecker extension boats moored in the marina paying for the moorage? Or are we expected to give them free moorage?

Dan Morrison was also appointed (as a "citizen representative") to a Port subcommittee just before the backroom, no bid deal for the property went through - thus creating a clear conflict of interest for the Port in selling him the property. When this conflict of interest was pointed out by Max Mania and Shirley Nixon at a public meeting the Port held on the pending sale, Morrison defended himself by saying there was no conflict of interest because "he hadn't even attended any of the subcommittee meetings." Poor Dan was too stupid to realize this just made the whole thing look WORSE and MORE like a backroom deal, since he wasn't even going through the motions as a "member" of the subcommittee. Duh, duh, duh...Check the minutes for the meetings the Port held on the sale of the property, especially the public comments. It gives you a pretty clear picture of who the crooks in town are, and who at least tried to oppose them.

Also...Check into Jeff Robb's connections to the Fairchild family. Those connections were the reason that he got his job out there in the first place, despite having no experience. Jeff Robb's entire "career" has been built on lies and connections, NOT on skills or experience. And certainly not on any "business" successes he's had. He's just another local boy making good (for himself) by doing bad (to everyone else). Scumbag.

Seattle gets the Hempfest.

We get amphibious go-carts.

Interesting times in PA. Fun to bring up the subject of corruption with local teabaggers as I give them my money.

They have about three ways of saying they don't like the direction things are going...or went...

Yup, they didn't make enough money off of us! Could have gone better for lots of them! Ripping people off here is a state of mind. Birds of a feather....

Sequim and Port Angeles must be aging at incredibly fast rates in a country that is aging in a world that is aging. The "Greatest Generation" is gone or not productive. We are left with a bubble of assholes, a generation of mostly teabaggers who somehow feel overly entitled to things they do not deserve, nor understand. And it has just begun.

But it's a great time to buy! Oh, no, sell. I forget!
