Port of Port Angeles Receives Letter and Petition
The Washington Coalition for Open Government has sent a letter to the Port of Port Angeles commissioners, reprimanding them for creating a new position for Jeff Robb immediately after his resignation. The letter stated:
“WCOG has been advised that recent actions by the Port of Port Angeles Commission threaten to undermine public trust and confidence, because they create the appearance that controversial decisions were made in private.”
The commissioners were also presented with a petition with about 400 signatures. The petition stated:
“We, the undersigned residents of Clallam County, demand that the Port of Port Angeles Commission rescind their appointment of the recently resigned executive director to his new position as environmental director because the position was never advertised, it is not in the budget, it has no job description and this action was illegally decided upon in secret and in violation of the Open Public Meetings Act, Chapter 42.30, Revised Code of Washington.”

Interesting...
A commissioner recall petition should be next!
Yes, interesting, but the Port will be the hero when they open the new tunnel from up in the Elwha to Bremerton. Only took that machine two years and it's in Seattle now, I hear. Don't believe me? Is the massive extra silt and new beaches etc. (excuses) not enough? Google this phrase: Parking lot at the foot of Mt Olympus. You don't even need to put it in quotes!
They are just laying the groundwork for the great disinvestment (and subsequent raping and pillaging) that is coming, like what is happening in Detroit. Full steam ahead on honoring the bonds for the new stadium in downtown Detroit but not so much for school bonds, pensions, etc. Bulldozing...the state of MI is going after the viable neighborhoods, the ones that are rehabbing first....very scary shit.
In Port Angeles, the teabaggers seem to have a real knack for spending money in order to create problems that will cause giant money woes in very short order. They are destroying our city and creating an infrastructure we do not need, is not viable, and can not afford. All in an increasingly unsafe environment for individuals, families and small business.
Someone please buy our house so that we can flee, flee, flee!
The Port Commissioners and the rest just learned how to get on the tax payer funded gravy train. And, learned that the majority of the locals would rather watch "Honey Boo Boo" than care about what happens. Or do anything about any of it.
As Grant Munro said "They can just pound sand".
Can anybody think of a good reason why port commissioners should serve six-year terms of office instead of two or four year terms?

You don't really think it would make any difference do you?
If Port Commissioners served four year terms instead of six, then Calhoun would be almost out of office and voters wouldn't have to go to the trouble of recalling him.
Assuming that the electorate gives a $#!* it would be easier to keep politicians more accountable if they had to face the voters every two or four years instead of every six. Better people might run for office, too, if they knew they would only need to make a two or four year commitment and then could return to their careers or their retirement plans.
Lots of things are possible, if you can get people to care enough to actually DO something.
The future belongs to the young, a few thousand of them should get together and raise hell.
Yes, the future DOES belong to the young, but I sure can think of a LOT of older people who do a LOT more to work on the problems of the future, than a lot of the young folks I know.
And, yes, I agree. A few thousand of them should get together and raise hell. That's one of the problems. They aren't.
News Flash! Ballot measure coming to Clallam that will allow voters to decide whether to reduce Port Commissioner terms of office from 6 years to 4 years!
It would be great to recall everybody and eliminate the Port of PA entirely, but shortening the terms of office would send a message, and also allow better accountability to the voters.
Vote YES on the ballot measure!
