Are YOU influenced by Political Campaign Spending?

Today's online PDN polls asks:

"Does the amount of money raised in a candidate's or initiative campaign influence your vote?"

With 826 votes cast, the results are:

No      78.3%

Sometimes   11.3%

Yes      8.6%

I don't vote   1.8%

Initiative 522 has taken a nosedive.  It was a slam dunk before Monsanto and the Grocery Manufacturers Association poured $22 million into their sleazy campaign against it; now it's trailing in the polls.  And yet 78.3% say they aren't influenced by political spending.  Something doesn't add up.

People are stupid. Part of their stupidity is that they aren't generally aware of how stupid they are.

Look at the Port Angeles City Council for several great examples of this condition.

There was a campaign against it? How in the hell did I miss that? I voted for those foods to be labeled, didn't everyone?

This just proves that there's a sizable portion of the population comprised of idiots. I'm willing to bet that the 78.3% are the people that the campaign spending is aimed at. And from the poll numbers, it appears it's money well spent (but not well intended IMHO).

When I eat a pea or a carrot, I hope that in the near future, I will be able to scan the container, and watch a youtube video of that particular pea or carrot, being grown, harvested, cooked, transported, etc., in real time, if I preorder. Our burgeoning marijuana industry is leading the way, for this to happen. Washington voters demand this. I think the GMO labeling thing does not go far enough, that is why it's in trouble. For instance, I think it should all be illegal, bet others think so, and that the labeling just retards that from happening, as people will eat the shit, and say, wow, didn't hurt me! I also think all rat traces and pesticides should be disclosed.

Typical. The people vote NOT to have a choice.

It is law that manufacturers put labels on products such as clothes, pillows, and all kinds of products other than food. Foods currently have to be labeled to let people know it contains artificial or natural coloring and flavors. Has anybody seriously contested natural flavors being harmful to anybody? But, the law requires they be put on labels so that people can be informed.

It COULD be about simply being able to make a personal choice.

But, the admen hired by those wishing to create public opinion about a given candidate or issue know their craft well. Just look at all the cheap, worthless crap American consumers buy, everyday.

Americans don't want to know about these things. Just tell them what the next "cool" thing is, that they are supposed to buy, so that they can be part of the "in" crowd.

WOW. Must have been a VERY difficult weekend over at the PDN. Have the teabaggers locally hit the tipping point? Has the tide turned with the motherfucking obstructionists in Port Angeles? Seriously, they used the VERY GAY/or BLACK/EARTH WIND FIRE word, CELEBRATE, in Sunday's headline, instead of the TEAGABBER word, FETE.

I happened to need to drive out to Ediz Hook on Friday around noon, and what did I see? Rent-A-Cops !! Rent-A-Cops at every corner of the Nippon plant! They were everywhere.

Too funny. Other than a the regulars who go out there to jog and stuff, there was not one person protesting the scene. Fancy tour bus was turning around behind a fenced off area, with a bunch od Rent-A-Cops. Must have been all those "invited guests".

Obviously, this is something for the community, not something just for that rich 1%!

Cherie Kidd is an idiot. A total and complete moron. The suits from Japan must just laugh, laugh, laugh that she's the local elected "leader." They don't even have to bribe her, like they do with some of the other locals; she just does whatever they say out of sheer, blissful stupidity.

Yeah, Cherie, they really, really "care" about Port Angeles. Just like you really, really understand long-term, sustainable budgeting. Right.

The way that "disabled" genius Zac keeps kissing Nippon ass on the PDN site, I wouldn't be surprised to see him run for city council one day. His continuous ass kissing shows he's clearly "qualified."

Nippon must have wanted to hire rent-a-cops to protect their Japanese overseer. There certainly weren't any public officials attending the "fete" that were important enough to merit any guarding.

"Fete" is French. the teabaggers would not be caught dead using a French word!

As if there have ever been any protests here that warranted rent-a-cops.

But, everyone got paid, so, who is complaining? Maybe the City paid a security consultant a $100k to analyze the situation, and after running a few computer models, determined how many rent-a-cops would be needed, and where the vulnerable access points for protesters were at the Nippon mill.

That's what is done these days, right? It's called "economic stimulus". The State throwing money at communities to create reasons to do some project or another.

Otherwise, there would be no economy, and the success of capitalism might be questioned!

If the rent a cops are bused here don't they take their wages back home with them? How does that help us here?

9:33 AM, November 04, 2013

"How does that help us here?"

Who really believes any of this is about helping us here? It is all about the rich getting richer, and for the rest of us? As former City Council member and former Rayonier Executive Grant Munro said "They can just pound sand".

That is how much they care about you. That is why that "celebration" was a private affair.

Interesting that the big ol' online ads for Lee Whetham on the PDN's website say "Paid for by Committee to Elect Lee Whetham," yet no such group seems to exist. The State has no PDC (Public Disclosure Commission) files for them, nothing. Yet such files are required of every candidate.

Hmmm...

Tomorrow's PDN poll....LOL....asking if a politician admits to smoking crack, if he should "automatically resign". What the fuck is an automatic resignation? Seriously, the dumbass crack smoking politician in the news is the mayor of Toronto....Canada....I've noticed the reports on TV of this atrocity have sort of left out Toronto is in Canada, like they are waiting for Faux News or other teabagger outlets to pick it up and not notice it was a different country - because the guy seriously looks like he's from Alabama.

And I'm sure the teabaggers at the PDN, would sort of not appreciate Canadians (foreigners) weighing in on if crack smoking politicians in the US should "automatically resign", if such a thing should happen.

From the PA page on Wikipedia, as of now. It's towards the end:

CONTROVERSY:

Like many small, poor, remote cities, Port Angeles has suffered from a wave of political corruption and scandals involving various elected officials at Clallam County, the Port of Port Angeles, and the City of Port Angeles.[22][23][24][25][26][27][28]

Against this backdrop of ongoing governmental malfeasance, in the midst of an ongoing economic downturn, Port Angeles has also been the site of several events that garnered national media attention. These included a father who branded his own children with a branding iron,[29] and the case of a man who destroyed his neighbor's house with a logging bulldozer.[30] On a related note, Clallam County is also experiencing a spike in drug-related crimes,[31] and also has an opiate-related death rate that is higher than the state average, and that places Clallam County third out of all counties in Washington for opiate-related deaths [32]

Just a hint of hope! I love it.

There's "liberal" Lee Whetham in the PDN today, with his well known REPUBLICAN campaign manager, Paul Martin. All you liberals and progressives who voted for this fake are gonna be greatly disappointed. He's just another seat-filling fool.

6:48 I KNOW! He has already come out as being for sports! And I hear he ACTUALLTY owns an internal combustion engine, and has been seen at Safeway, buying gasoline! Gasoline is HORRIBLE for the environment! No matter what you do with it, sniff it for recreational purposes, pour it on your lawn, put in in your car, it's bad bad bad! And, this is the worst part, I think he used to own leather shoes. He denied it, but several of his neighbors saw him wear boots not that long ago.

There is a time and place for having a fiscally conservative Sierra Club mouthpiece on the council. That time and place is not here nor now, and we must adapt.

I think you (6:48) are a teabagger, pretending to be a "liberal". Or at least a social conservative and dream of living on your own, in the woods, or a combo of both. The vast majority of "liberals" (the 47%) over 32 or so, especially in rural, isolated and poor areas, don't get it, "community", and are pretty much teabaggers, have been teabaggers in their adult lives, or will be teabaggers again. At least they don't vote that way as they have to EAT!!!

I love that someone from the Loser Capitol of the World, Port Angeles, is trying to taunt Max Mania for (supposedly) living in Ashland, Oregon, which by all accounts is a very nice, and very successful place indeed. And I love even more that said loser is up at 4:21AM obsessing over Mania, when Mania himself is doubtlessly sleeping peacefully, in Ashland or somewhere else nice. Suck it, loser, 'cause you know your community sucks, sucks, sucks. I mean, Mayor Downie? Ugh!

"Wow, I never ever ever ever thought the feds would bad trans fats. GMO's will be illegal too."

You may be right, but I think it is all only about money.

Food companies label for Trans Fats because they see people on diets (because of junk food culture)as a market to cater to. "Healthy choice".

But, GMOs are all about making food cheaper, regardless of other issues. Look in the shopping baskets people are pushing in most any big store, and you'll see most people don't care about much other than "cheap" and "convenient". Prepared, packaged, and ready to eat.
