Chamber of Commerce says to Hurry Up and Get Those Lincoln Park Trees Out of There

The Chamber of Commerce presented a letter yesterday to the Port of Port Angeles, urging them to move forward with the removal of the Lincoln Park trees that are "blocking" the landing path into Fairchild Airport.  The Lincoln Park Master Plan consists of two parts:  removing the taller trees, and the renovation of Lincoln Park.  Chamber president Brian Kuh urged the Port to handle these two issues separately.

The Chamber of Commerce "leaders" think it is a good idea to encourage airplanes to fly at lower altitudes over residential areas?
Why doesn't the Chamber instead encourage airport authorities to expand the runway to the west (if it truly requires expansion --- which seems doubtful)?

Are you willing to pay the $30 million cost of expanding the same distance to the West? I'm certainly not willing just to save a few tall trees, trees that are in abundance all over town!

From the way Calhoun is strutting around and boasting, it's clear that a deal has been done to remove those trees. Expect that to happen soon, followed soon after by the airport failing due to lack of flights. Trees or no trees, it's just not a viable business.

As for expanding the runway in the other direction...The Port could have done that with property they once owned, if they hadn't given that land away to the fucking sprint boat morons. Even the City Council objected to that move, but the Port did it anyway, knowing that they'd make the money for that, then put the City on the spot to "fix" their runway problem.

Crooks enabled by idiots...Clallam County in all its glory.

Today the PDN quotes Calhoun as saying the city could earn half a million dollars from welling the timber off the park. How much did the city earn a few years ago when 300 trees were cut down? What did they do with the money?

Don't you see? The Port, City and their cronies know there is not enough organized opposition to stop ANY of their poorly thought out projects or ideas.

Sure, there are a handful of the "usual suspects" who do speak out. But, as we (and they) can see in this Fall's election, nobody REALLY is THAT upset. Certainly not enough for the local cronies to lose any sleep over.

So, all those (like Grant Munro)who have "special influence" with the local leadership get to proceed with their personal projects, without concern for the long range impacts to the community.

Who cares? Isn't money the only thing that matters, anymore?

If having an airport is SO vital to Clallam County being "economically successful," then why isn't the county in better shape? There's been a functioning airport for the last decade, and yet, the promised economic growth, gee, just hasn't materialized. Hmmm...

Maybe the airport is less important to economic growth and security than having informed, intelligent elected leaders. (Ya think?) We sure haven't seen many of those around here the past decade. Hmmm...

This town is controlled by teabaggers (rebranded Republicans). All the corruption and thievery surrounding our boondoggles obscures this. They must laugh at us. I would, if I had a fat paycheck like that. Assholes.

The PDN's coverage of the shutdown, was fucked. These two weeks, I've noticed others in town (the few people I know) have gone from "who cares" about the PDN to "wow, it's out of control teabagger".

The trees at Lincoln Park - who cares? We do not need an airport. Going to pick up the occasional guest every other year or so, I'm surprised how nice and NEW it looks...still...with so little use!

Close the airport to all but private plane owners.

I suspect that John Calhoun is flat out lying or at a minimum grossly exaggerating when he says that the Port would need to condemn 12 parcels of in order to expand the runway westward. Show us a map of where those properties are located and where the extended runway would have to go. Show us that the Port has seriously considered this alternative, as well as what it might cost.

The Nat. Park debate going on at the PDN "forum"...vomit.

Are these people insane??? If they think, that the feds, and 51% of the people around here, would let the fucking stupid local teabaggers and inbreeds in the park, when it's FUCKING CLOSED, with little "supervision", in a state of "shutdown" they are out of their minds. I can see it. It is never ever ever ever going to happen. You teabaggers and your rusty old chainsaws will NEVER get access to that park when the govt' is shut down!!! Either there will be feds in the park, with guns, walking around, listening intently, stopping you from destroying the park, or you no go in park!

Seriously, the daily teabag polled them, didn't they? Didn't almost 70% of the knuckledraggers (it's heavily knuckledragger biased, but rarely does it go over 60% when only two choices) NOT want the "state" to open it up? (the feds had promised to pay us back, if we had chosen that option)

Amazing how stupid the media thinks (or knows) people are. As if ANYTHING has been "averted". The debt crisis was not averted, just the decisions needed to do anything about it were.

Once again, our fearless elected leaders feared pissing off the people who they have to ask for votes from, feared facing the ever growing debt, and feared doing ANYTHING to address the growing debt. Instead, they just pushed the decisions, once again, a couple months down the line.

Come January and February, we'll be back to this same place. Only then, we will have built up even more debt.

Our leaders were concerned that you would not go out in the coming month or two, the "holidays", and rack up even more personal debt, so they intentional pushed the issues past that period. By January and February, you will be getting your credit card bills. Try "defaulting" on your debt!

So, do your part, and go buy stuff. By the time this financial house of cards faces reality, and the cuts to government kick in, it won't matter. Follow your leaders examples, and just avoid reality.

@ 9:39 AM....

It's called kicking the can down the road.

I went over to fill my gas tank this morning, the price shot up 16 cents a gallon overnight. If I had known the shutdown was going to end I would have filled it yesterday.

I know how greed works.

The Chinese and the Dutch (they're second largest holders of our debt) are laughing their heads off.

Wait till the Arabs decide the gauge the price of oil in Yuan or Euros. It's not like we can invade or topple any more Arab governments. Goodbye dollar.

Anon 5:49 says: " Wait till the Arabs decide the gauge the price of oil in Yuan or Euros. It's not like we can invade or topple any more Arab governments. Goodbye dollar.".

You DO know the largest EXPORT of the US is oil, right?

The oil companies are thrilled, cuz the US taxpayers have both foot the bill to make life SO profitable for them, AND they get to be a "private" company that gets to rip off consumers at will.

But, like the leaders here in Port Angeles, they know how stupid the average American really is, and will believe just about ANYTHING they're told.

Goodbye dollar? What do you think is going to happen when the government finally DOES do all the layoffs and cutbacks needed to address the US debt? Or defaults? These issues did not go away, and have not been resolved.

Neat that Tom Foley got to see a strong President CRUSH the stupid teabaggers and republicans in congress, one more time, before he died. The Peninsula Daily Teabag, the little blurb today, was pathetic. Bet they were THRILLED when he lost his seat and Newt became speaker.
