Local Bee Colonies in Danger from Pesticides

Beekeepers on the North Olympic Peninsula are concerned about Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD).  Clallam County has six commercial beekeeping operations and about forty sideline operations.

Colony Collapse Disorder has been linked to a type of widely used pesticides known as neonicotonoids.

Between ocean acidification, that is resulting in the collapse of the marine food chain, and the bee colonies collapsing, resulting in food crop pollination problems, we can see the modern life is working really well!

We should look to what oil money has provided, in Astana, the new capital of Kazakhstan. The Prez decided he didn't like to old capital city, and decided to build a whole new one out in the Steppes, 600 miles away. Western corporations think this is great, and have their offices in the same buildings as the government offices they are supposedly governed by.

Kinda like the State Auditors' office here in Port Angeles!

BBC - Good one! It's called a "tea party". Hate tears us apart. Love binds.

Wow, the PDN's poll today - whose foreign policy is worse, Bush's or Obama's?

Why can't they ask which adm. had a BETTER one?

Seriously, we all knew Rumsfeld and Cheney were fascists. Now, in hindsight, they were murdering, lying fascists. Too bad Obama decided not to prosecute them. He could have and probably should have. He sort of did a Gerald Ford that first week and no one remembers nor are the teabaggers grateful!

Scary that the local "media" doesn't see that! I don't get it, why the PDN continues to rip this scab off?? It seriously makes us look like a bunch of hateful ...ok, I'll say it...

...RUSSIANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Makes us look like Russia!!!!

(just wait, will be great fun, Limbaugh and the likes of him are already getting hard ons daily for the homophobic, murdering, fascist, closeted/conflicted, Pooty-poot)

Note to self: forget about moving to Colorado or any other "inland" mountainous areas that are going to get fucked up by climate change. Too many people, not good drainage. Can't happen here. Next summer, the fires in Colorado! Great fun!

So I guess the last wild bee in the US, in a few years, or ten years, will die here, on the Oly Pen. :( For us, will be enough insects around to pollinate our apple trees and huckleberries, but the farmland lets say just east of Denver....SCREWED. Screwed screwed screwed. Along with the food supply. And most people.

And pockets of survivors, will treasure their gardens, and the wasps and bumblebees that help pollinate things....sad.

So stop spraying you motherfuckers! We are screwed anyway, but have known about the demise of bees for over a decade. Pesticides - wow, big surprise. Just because THEY CAN, your neighbors will continue spraying...

In ten years the PDN will run a poll. What or who is responsible for 90% of the world dying because of the bee/food chain collapse - Hillary? (my guess) Obama? Or Malathion?

Speaking of "not getting it", I see that the ports in the region are lobbying hard to build or expand coal exporting facilities, saying they are going to ship the coal to China. Spending serious money to push these projects.

Oh! Wait! Despite the selfserving morons who only care about the money being deposited in THEIR bank accounts, there ARE others who are experiencing the impacts of ongoing burning of fossil fuels. It isn't always ONLY about jobs, jobs, jobs!

So, yesterday China bans new coal fired power plants. Says they are working to cut reliance and use of such plants by 65% within the next 5 years. Uh oh.

What do ya do when local stupid "leadership" isn't looking ahead, and squanders time and money building facilities for commodities that there will be no demand for?

Here, we just turn the page, and look at the Sports section.

You heard about the 6,000 people in India that washed away in record flooding? No?

Yes, because 3 cars in Colorado had White people in them?

Or, because the machine doesn't want to highlight that "Climate Change" is happening now.

Keep buying those Ram tough big trucks!

Spent a night in Montana next to some RR tracks, long train loads of coal was heading west, I suppose to a Seattle port for shipment to China.

The capitalists are killing us.

The only local elected leader we had on environmental and/or sustainability issues just decided to pack up and move away. Called this place a "sinking ship" as I recall. I kinda think he's right. Kinda makes you wonder why anyone stays.

Yes, but the capitalists are the "job creators". Isn't that the only thing that matters?

It is better to have a job destroying our childrens' future, than change the way we are doing things, and think about consequences.

Consequences are for OTHER people to worry about.

A future project you can look forward to is the restoring of the old Lincoln school. That I think should be demolished, the bricks and beams can be recycled into other useful projects.

But that won't happen as long as Cherie has anything to say about it, she loves her old crap.

We could be retrofitting for the future we know lays ahead, but that would take forward vision.

We could be creating industries building the alternative energy systems we will have to rely on. But, Big Oil has done a great job of helping people think there is no problem with continued fracking, drilling and burning fossil fuels.

You heard they are considering using small nuclear devices underground in their future fracking operations? As if all the chemical contamination of all the water was not bad enough, now they want to make ground water radioactive!

We could be changing things for the better, but we're not.
