Port Angeles Utility Customers Might Have Less Time to Pay Utility Bills

The City of Port Angeles might reduce the length of time provided for utility customers to pay their bills.  The City Council will be considering this proposal at their meeting next Tuesday.

Wasn't it our former Mayor, Cherie Kidd, who told everyone 25% of Port Angeles residents are behind in being able to pay their utility bills?

She was outright saying the city had obligated the residents to more debt than they could afford to pay!! It was published in some magazine.

And now, city staff is finding ways to bring on even more debt to city residents.

With less time to try and pay for it. City Council thinks this is really great.

I think this is a great cost-saving tweak that they are making to the timing of their billing cycle. Currently you can receive a new bill before the last bill is even due which makes it seem like you are late on your payment when really you are not late at all.

For example, my February bill was due 3/24 and my March bill arrived 3/22 before the Feb bill was due .. so if you wait to pay until the due date it seems like you are late when you aren't.

I think they are just changing the dates by a few days. It isn't going to cost anybody anything, but it will hopefully reduce the times that upset customers call the city because they are confused about their bill. And that saves us money because city staff can attend to their work rather than explain the weird billing cycle glitch to customers on the phone.
