New Mayor and Deputy Mayor for Port Angeles
On January 15th the Port Angeles City Council will select the next Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Port Angeles.
I've lived here 3½ years and I never knew the mayor was selected by the city council and not the voters. I guess it should've been obvious, since I've never seen any posters or banners for Karen Rogers, or “Vote for _____________ for Mayor.”
Any speculation on who they’ll select?

Did anybody see that letter in today's PDN from Sequim's lameduck mayor Walt Schubert? What a crock, "waaaaaaaahhhhh!!!!!" Good riddance.
I have a fairly reasonable idea that they are not going to select me. Heck, I'd even wager 401k money on not making the short list.
Though it'd be a down right hoot if they did!
you do realize that we are a "weak mayor" form of government...so it doesn't matter WHO has the title...the person who really runs the city is the city manager, a man hired by people within the CITY...so it's not like the people have any voice in THAT
This is off topic, whose bright idea was it to close off Laurel Street AND one lane of West Front Street at the same time? DUH. Front Street looks like an LA freeway at commute hour. Nice going genius.
I absolutely loved Schubert's whining letter. I've always absolutely detested him, and I agree -- good riddance. But to whine about it, like "not having Dick Nixon to kick around anymore" -- sheesh!
I think Mark Madsen is doing a good job, but I agree with the third anonymous too that we should have a say in SOMETHING here, and we don't. It'll be interesting to see who they select for Mayor.
Hope we get through this construction mess without too much mayhem. It's bad enough they closed Laurel, but they've also blocked half of Front Street and about 10 cars nearly rammed each other today trying to change into one lane. Yikes!
I'd like to see how the budget balances after all these various projects go over budget. I think it was hardly fiscally conservative to try to do so much at once. Meanwhile, the huge hole from the motorhome's swan dive this summer is still a gaping mess with orange plastic "band aid" fencing and people walking/driving by there daily.
Too bad we are so over booked on construction projects that the city can't attend to other eyesores, or not to mention the huge liability of the threat to life and limb. (Looks like the city dodged a bullet by that family not filing a wrongful death suit, they wont' be so lucking if something else happens with their neglect to fix that fence for 5 months and counting.)
I don't know if Madsen is doing a good job or not. Time will tell, won't it?
Time will tell, indeed. It always does.
Edna Peterson, Peter Ripley, Craig Miller, Alan Turner, Bob Stokes ...
For the last couple of years the old city council decided they didn't need to listen to the majority of the voters.
The voters brought in new council members and they in turn listened to the voters and put a new mayor into place. Sorry Karen your ploy didn't work with your standing minority.
I was told by a very important person in PA that you can't fight city hall. Well guess what the fight was done.
Now lets get the Farmers Market back into the downtown area.
Oh, One more thing. They really need to replace the director of the PA Chamber. But maybe things can change now that he can't suck up to Karen anylonger. He surely doesn't listen to his membership from what I can tell.
