Celebration in Downtown Port Angeles
We've all spent months fuming and complaining about the downtown sidewalk construction and the traffic jams. And now TGIF. Thank Goodness It's Finished.
That's the name of the celebration in downtown Port Angeles this Saturday, May 3rd. If you've been avoiding downtown because of all the hassles, now it's time to come back.
Saturday's events will be at First and Laurel, starting at 2 p.m. Carnival games, hot dogs being grilled, ribbon cutting ceremony, free cake, drawing for a grand prize (harbor cruise aboard the Victoria Express).
At 6:30 p.m.: the beer garden opens and there'll be a street dance (music by DJ Dizzie Richie).

Dude, free cake!
This is great -- let's all come out and play. Good weather seems to finally be here, and the work is about done Downtown -- and it looks really good!
And don't forget about the farmers market. They're gonna be in that parking lot across from the downtown fountain, for just that one day, Saturday May 3rd. Aren't they?
It's interesting that Laurel Street can be closed off for this "celebration" event, but Laurel Street can't be closed off once a week to host the farmers market.
Sometime next month the farmers market should be setting up again at that Laurel Street parking lot every Wednesday, assuming they're doing that again this summer.
That new donut shop, next to the Corner House and Downtown Hotel, is supposed to open tomorrow. They've been "opening soon" for eons now, and now they're actually opening this Saturday.
I agree!
Whats the deal with closing Laurel for this event, but not weekly (or twice a week) for the farmers market...who's noggin' do we need to remove from their posterior orifice?
That's nice that the donut shop will open today. I wish them luck (they'll need it!)
In the meantime, two downtown businesses (at least two) are closing.
Bringing the farmers market downtown is a great campaign "promise" that never gets fulfilled or even thought about after the candidate wins his/her seat on the city council.
I haven't seen much of a change in attitude since these new people got elected: Betsy Wharton, Cheri Kidd, DiGuilio ... new faces, smae ol' bull!
I'm also waiting for the Farmer's Market. Every town that has one generates more foot traffic (customers!) and buzz. Why not here, exactly?!
Because P.A. is still run by a lot of good ol' boys and gals whose attitude is "We nver had no farmers market before, why do we need one now?" This attitude is why this town is never going to get anywhere.
Speaking of Betsy Wharton, I won't be voting for her should she choose to run for city council again. She lost me when she voted to put Edna Petersen on the city council claiming that Edna was up to speed on the issues before the city council. Come on, Betsy! This P.A., not Seattle! There's nothing so complex going on in this town that a bright twelve year old couldn't figure out. Politics as usual!
