Gateway Center on Life Support

Now it looks like the Gateway Project won’t be completed until after the first of the year.

More steel will be needed to support the foundation of the pavilion. And there’ll be a second pour of concrete on the plaza deck.

They had been hoping to have the project completed by Christmas (which was Plan B after their original estimate of September 2008). They’re still hoping to have Gateway’s west parking garage open before the end of 2008.

I'm wondering what the project will actually cost us when it is all said and done to have a gateway to Victoria.

I read in the local rag today that there will be a police substation in it. Is it possible that they looked forward enough to see that the homeless would be hanging out there?

I don't know, I'm just wondering. I wonder about many things, like does Lizzy have nice boobs? Ha ha ha.

The Gateway's police substation is actually a hook attached to the wall so Officer Segway can have a place to hang his helmet when he's done "patrolling" downtown for the day.

UPS can put three drivers downtown and the best the city "government" can do is Officer Segway. I see Officer Segway twice a month at best. I see the UPS drivers every day. The city should deputize the UPS drivers and unplug Officer Segway!

So all this new parking will be just for the prospective new tenents looking to open businesses in all the recently made available retail space?

I haven't seen the Segway officer yet but I'm taking Helen into town to go her banking in the morning so maybe I will while we have breakfast at the Cornerhouse.

Lizzie, who isn't a perv? Most of the risque humor and porn emailed to me is sent by 'christians'.

So answer this question, "Do you have nice boobs?"

We'll be in the Cornerhouse at about nine in the morning for breakfast, it's easy to spot us, she will be the sweet old lady in the wheeled chair.

Drop by and show us some cleavage, she enjoys that as much as I do. :-)

Only the city of Port Angeles could spend so much $$$$ on an unwanted, un-needed project and then have it turn out to be so half-a$$ed.

No hook for him and the Segway also? When I went by this morning there didn't appear to be a darn thing going on.

The structure is sort of interesting, but not as interesting as a lot of things in Victoria. The rest of it looks like crap.

I can’t imagine American engineers and builders building an Egyptian pyramid, they would never get it right.

The City does whatever the City wants. They do not care about the people who live here. The City forced this Gateway project down our throats.

Downtown merchants were afraid to speak out against it. I personally talked to downtown business owners who were told by the city not to "speak out" against the Gateway center, or the building inspectors would find code problems with those businesses, or make it impossible for them to get a building permit for any improvement they may want to make.

Hey Billy,
That doofus in the plaid shirt in the picture of your blog's April war protest is a real turd. Do you know that POS?

Can anyone confirm the rumor that Camera Corner is closing?

So now the city is gonna spend our tax dollars to form a "task force" to study the Harbor Works commission....maybe they need another task force to investigate that task force...is anyone else pissed about this??? It seems to me that the Harbor Works is overdue...let's get some revenue-producing industry in there to relieve us homeowners!
And now they also wanna spend 82K to fund a special election to save the pool, but take 26K from the Animal Shelter...what the hell is goin on? Does anyone care?

umm, what rumors...the huge "going out of business" in the Camera Corner's windows...make it pretty clear...another one bites the dust. Welcome to the ghost town of Port Angeles

Do you think that phenomenon is unique to Port Angeles? You should get out of the house more often

Lizzy, it's my best guess that you think a lot of people are real turds, including me.

I'm not sure which post you are speaking of, a search didn't take me to it so I can't confirm what you say, there is one man there that I have had issues with.

I find it interesting that you are going back and reading my old posts though. There is a lot of good and interesting things in them, and a lot of bullshit.

Billy,
It's your Sunday, April 27 entry. The turd I am speaking of is holding that stupid jolly roger flag...lol...what a frickin' weirdo!
I see him wanderin' around town...always has a bulldog sourpuss face...like he's trying to choke back a fart or sumthin'.

It is very sad to lose Camera Corner.

Camera Corner never really kept up with the times....film is a dead technology. And, if one cannot sell a business, when one wants to retire...what else to do? Used to be that the children would keep a business going....but, that's as old as zoot suits and spats.
Meanwhile, I don't see a lot of younger people jumping in and starting businesses....we need a new generation of merchants for a town to survive.

I hate to tell you this, but film is definitely not "dead technology." Film has it all over digital ... always had and always will.

Pros are moving back to film because digital can't cut it.

to the film buff....uhhh, you're speaking out of your sitting orifice. While its still possible to obtain 35mm film (AFGA and Kodak stopped production of their b&w film in 2005) it's harder to find processing, and papers.
I know of very, very few professional photographers who have moved back to film because of the lack of quality of the high end digital cameras. Hassleblad, Leaf, Phase One, Cannon all make some impressive gear. The prices are hefty...but the quality is excellent. In fact, very few commercial photographers even dabble in film-based because no magazine, newspaper, or ad house will accept "printed" images anymore.
Get off the peninsula occasionally....you might find out how the world is turning.

hey Anonymous at 2:20 PM, you can shove your crappy digital camera up your arse, buster!

Perhaps you've never heard of Kodak's T-Max or Portra films. Or Fuji, Ilford or the wide variety of European film being made, sold and used, boyo.

Voigtlander, Leica and Zeiss have all come out with film-based cameras within the last few years.

Film rules, digital drools. My Leica IIIf beats your digi-crap "camera" any day of the week.

Yeah, but I KNOW you aren't taking any photos except to put on your own walls! No way you're selling anything to anyone with that gear. I love to death my 40 year old Pentax, but, honey, won't pay the bills.
You made the comment that "professionals" are moving back to film...only ARTISTS, not professionals.

hehehe A ditigal vs film fight. Your kidding right? Personally I could care less what your taking photos with, show me your images!

It is sad to see Camera Corner close, however it had nothing to do with this ditigal vs film fight.
The owner after 37 years of being in the business is burnt out and to be quite honest didn't keep up with todays technologies. He pretty much stop selling cameras years ago. Just like anything else, things have changed and if you don't change your just left behind. There are many camera stores doing quite well.

Back to the Gateway, it sure would have been better to spend that kind of money on Railroad Ave and really try and promote tourism than put a Bus Stop in Downtown PA.

Please buy locally and I don't mean WalMart!!!!
