Eighth Street Bridges — February?

The City of Port Angeles and Exeltech, the project manager, are now estimating February 2nd as the date the two Eighth Street bridges will be open. This estimate is based on not having any weather-related delays.

This project has taken longer than originally expected, but so far it’s still within its $24.6 million budget. $21.6 million is from the State Department of Transportation; $3 million is from city funding.

The construction company, Parsons RCI, has requested additional funding to cover the increased costs of materials. Glen Cutler, Public Works Director, expects the project to stay within budget even after approving the additional money to Parsons.

Part of the delay has been the result of having to redesign the foundation abutment because of poor soil on the west side of the Tumwater Creek Bridge.

Seems like any government job needs to have 20% of time and 30% of budget added to the original cost... So this ain't bad!

So much for supposed to being testing out and knowing all that before hand so it can be put into the bid.

I'm guessing that in the end that it will go a lot over cost.

But in the long run it doesn't even matter if they are there or not, we've learned to live without them.

I would like it if 30% of the people would leave this town, it would make it 20% better.

And that wouldn't be bad at all.

If 30% of the people left this town, it would be 50% better!

Count Zenzizi among the fallen. Looks like they'll be closing their doors by the end of December.

That's the ninth (or is it tenth) business to close up since late September.

Well, I'm really hoping that the unemployed leave town looking for greener grass somewhere else.

I'd go to church with Lizzy but I would just get her boobs all knotted up, ha ha ha.

Of course there is anger in me.
There was anger in a hell of a lot of greater people than I am. Einstein, Da Vinci, Shakespeare just to name a few.

Likely the owner of this blog also.

Lizzy, lets get together for coffee, if I like you I might complement on your boobs, he he he.

Church, rolls eyes, I'm a card carrying minister and I don't do churches.

Mostly I just serve street people that don't do churches. I do their weddings and funerals for them.

What is "zenzini?" With a name like that, I doubt that many will miss it.

Anonymous (10:41 p.m. 11/30): First of all you didn't even spell the name right. Look again, a name with 7 letters, shouldn't be too complicated.

It is (or was) a great store, a solid addition to downtown, with a lot of loyal customers. The fact that a stable successful merchant like that is feeling the economic downturn, is not a good sign.

the downtown businesses had a hard year last year -- and unless some of these idiot projects get finished..it's gong to be another bad winter. The downtown association sucks much needed $$$ from them (in the form of a forced collection, aka tax), and the city is anti-business.
Landlords think they are in downtown Seattle, and try and charge triple-net rents, and keep raising them for some screwy ego boost. (Not to mention the slum mentality of most of them.)
The towns-folks head out of town whenever possible, or to Walmart, and don't think twice.
Tourism is the only salvation, and no one comes to this forsaken speck of nothing in the winter.
The various associations (chamber, pada, paba) are all contortionists...spending all their time patting themselves on their backs, and blowing smoke up each other's asses.
There are -- at least -- four more businesses on the brink of closing, and eight that may not last until spring.
Hurrah for Port Angeles, the fastest dying town on the Peninsula

I say phooey to the PADA! Business owners need to stop paying them for doing nothing.

you can't NOT pay the PADA...if you do, your certificate of occupancy is pulled. The city collects for PADA....
Nice deal, eh?
