Tim Quinn: R.I.P.

Tim Quinn, North Olympic Peninsula artist, was found dead in his apartment on Saturday. He was 62.

He’s the artist who painted the “Sluicing the Hogback” mural in Port Angeles. He’s also the creator of the “Olympic Visions” mural downtown, next to the fountain. He was part way through repairing/repainting the mural.

Fellow artist Jackson Smart said: “He was a tremendous artist. He did many, many private commissions for people all over. Tim was very well-thought-of in the community, and we've worked on several pieces together. A lot of people are very sad to hear this.”

Don Perry, City Council member and downtown historical tour guide, said: “His talent and personality will be missed by so many people. He will never be forgotten for as long as I am around because I talk about him on every single tour.”

After reading the story in the local fishwrap today I figured that you would do a post about him. Didn't know him but have seen him around some.

Nice easy going guy I guess, but still dead at 62, maybe it pays to be cranky cuz I'm 66 and still steaming along just fine.

In any event, you don't know when you are going to die so if you think you have something useful to contribute to the world I suggest you get with it.

And have your affairs in order, cuz you just never know.

BTW, because of your post about Streamkeepers I've talked to them as you had mentioned they also needed someone to cook for them.

Turns out that their needs are sort of unique being as they can't always plan in advance, or something like that and put crews in the field when the need comes up.

They want frozen meals to take and heat up in the field, how they will heat them up I don't know.

Not to mention they lack the funds for meals so they are looking for people to make up good meals and freeze them, at their expense, and provide them to them.

Okay, I can do that, help some anyway. They have the use of a freezer to store them in and that is good being as my freezer is very small and I don't want others bothering me in the night for meals.

Hell, I'm bothered enough by this rock, ha ha ha ha ha

I did know Tim, and spent time with him in his apartment over in Sequim. Seeing the article this morning was a shock, and changed my day.

Hope he went easy.

I am also very saddend by Tim's passing. I first met Tim in 1966 in California when he was in the Army. We later re-met here in Sequim in 1986 and continued our friendship over the years. (correction for the PDN) Tim helped paint the "sluicing of the Hogsback" mural. The originator and principal artist was Hank Krueger. I assisted Hank in the research for this mural. Tim helped Hank finish it up. He was an exceptional carver, he worked mostly in driftwood and then larger pieces with a chainsaw. He also did the political cartoon in the Sequim Gazzette. He has work in the Railroad Bridge Park in Sequim. He did a mural in Sequim also. He was in the process of re-painting Olympic Visions" at the fountain in downtown. He did many private pieces for people all over the country. He was somewhat of a loner in life, preferring to spend a lot of time alone. His favorite place was the beach between Sequim Bay and Diamond point where he did sand carving on the bluff. In fact the county enacted an oridinance in his honor...NO MORE CARVING ON THE BLUFFS! The Seattle Times did an article on his carvings, so of course people have to come and see, which angered the neighbors above the County Park, they petitioned the County Commissioners to make it against the law to erode the bluffs....oh well....that ended that. Tim was born in Huntington Beach, California where he had a stained glass studio on the beach. He also did some cowboying.

He was loved by many that knew him and I know thier loss is felt deeply.

I will certainly miss him...mostly because I can't stop in and visit or have him stop by here. I understand that his journey here was complete and he is now on his next experience.

Journey well, my Brother, I love you and will always cherish the times we had together. I am sure will meet up again in another lifetime...so we need to keep an eye open for each other.

Rest in Peace my friend.....

Nice tribute to him by Jackson.

I'm going camping in the morning to get away from the christmas insanity for a while.

The rest of you monkeys are in charge while I'm gone.
