To say she was "elected" is a big stretch. She applied - with a short, pathetic one-page application - and was accepted. (Yes, I've seen her application.)

In some quarters, Betsy Wharton has a great reputation, but to me she's much more of a talker than a doer. That's why she did NOT get re-elected to the city council.

Hey! No kidding. She just "cooperated" her way into being worthless. A Board needs people who do nothing but talk a good line.

On another topic; wasn't that a stellar article in today's rag about Jack selling off one of his two Victoria passenger ferries?

So, is Victoria Express scaling back it's operations, or getting out of the passenger ferry business? Not something one could find out by reading that article!

Another core business in Port Angeles in the process of closing shop?

And, I see not ONE of the regional political types showed up for the Pen-Ply event, despite all the hype.

All good, and getting better.

If she'd pare down her ego, and start saying what she MEANS, and doing what she says...it would go a long way. But, as it is, you cannot trust a thing she says.
Why I could not, would NOT vote for her.

WTF PDN! Don't you have editors over there? Sounded like Victoria Express had sold, not the damn name of A boat.
PDN is just getting worse, a poor excuse for a puppy poop pad. I hope everyone at that paper gets hemroids from sticking their heads up their asses.

here's part of the PDN article. I think it answers the questions of if he is scaling back or getting out of the passenger ferry business as well as the fact that he didn't sell his business. Just one of his boats:

Jack Harmon, president of Victoria Rapid Transit Inc., which also does business as Victoria Express, said that his company's sale of the 147-passenger ferry MV Victoria Express to the Port of Kingston, which the port approved in a special meeting Friday, would not affect operations this summer season.

He said that the company would have to consider the purchase of another vessel in the future.

Harmon said for now "nothing changes" at his business, which operates Victoria Express and the Victoria Express II, providing 55-minute crossings of the Strait of Juan de Fuca to Victoria, and also taking passengers to Friday Harbor.

it's NOT what the headline said:

Kingston buys Port Angeles passenger ferry Victoria Express
unless you KNEW the boat was also named "victoria express" it was misleading.

But better....in breaking news...
Sinking fishing boat near Neah Bay helped by Coast Guard

Since when do the Coasties help to SINK A BOAT?

Ummm.....I think the PDN needs a new, literate headline guy.

Anon 1:35 sez: " here's part of the PDN article. I think it answers the questions of if he is scaling back or getting out of the passenger ferry business as well as the fact that he didn't sell his business. Just one of his boats:"

The article only raises questions. Jack says "..nothing changes.. for now..", as the boat he sold will not be transferred to its' new owners until the fall, when it is out of service to Victoria, anyways. But then what? " He said that the company would have to consider the purchase of another vessel in the future."

This does not sound like a commitment to maintaining the same level of service between Port Angeles and Victoria. It sounds like a 50% reduction, with no plans to expand.

So, Jack is cutting back on the ferry service to Victoria, plain and simple. Glad the PDN made that so clear.

So, is this to buy a better boat later? Or can he no longer afford to keep both boats running? Or what? Be nice to know these things, PDN.

Wait, you want the PDN to do some work!!!
They must read this blog, though, as the Coast Guard headline was changed on Monday. LOL. Wow....now if only they could catch these things BEFORE the paper is put to bed.

The PDN is not a watchdog. It's a lapdog for people like Karen and Larry, Dick and the Teabaggers. Again, the PDN is part of the problem with Port Angeles.

"Again, the PDN is part of the problem with Port Angeles."

No kidding. Anyone who is involved in the various issues in the area knows first hand how the PDN manipulates what the public knows. This is either by intention, or by sheer incompetence.
