Oh great, Rotmark is a rumor spreading fool. The EDC Board of Directors should replace her fast.
I don't know that I'd agree that Linda Rotmark is a fool...But the PABA is certainly a great meeting place for fools. Other than having breakfast together once a week(!), can anyone tell me what, exactly, the PABA actually does for our town?
They're in with the in-crowd.
Port Angeles is SUCH a waste of time.
Yes, one CAN go to PABA or any of the other civic groups IF they have a need to feel as if they are "involved". But, the reality of the situation is that they ALL are a big waste of time.
After years of watching the groups and their activities, I have a hard time citing ANYTHING that stands in testimony for ALL those wasted hours so many in Port Angeles have spent attending these groups' meetings.
Take up knitting. At least you'll have a scarf or a pair of socks to show for your efforts.
Rotmark, geez, I just need to get over that. :-)
On the other hand, Dirty Harry, a man that was an avid follower of your blog, but also often posted as Anonymous, and would drop by my place when he was in town to bullshit for a while.
May not be with us anymore. The last email I got from him stated that he was having a hell of a time breathing, he had bad lungs, and he is (or was) in his early 50's.
My tracker doesn't show him signing in for about a week now so he's really sick or gone.
Good man, Harry.....
So, did Linda tell our civic elite all about the Economic Development Councils' great plans for Port Angeles, this morning? Anybody here go to PABA?
This is such a bunch of self serving crap. Who really believes that NOW, with the creation of this "summit", the many problems that are "Port Angeles" will now be solved?
The EDC has been around for how many years? During all those years, Sequim has seen all those big box stores be built, bringing with them the tax revenues to the city, and serving as a magnet for area consumers.
What has happened in Port Angeles during that same period of time? More and more businesses close, and more buildings sit vacant for months.
Recently, Ross Dress For Less and Groceries for Less (or some such name) announced intentions to build stores in Sequim. While Gottschaulks moved OUT of Port Angeles. Even in these "hard economic times", Sequim continues to attract new businesses, while Port Angeles continues to be nothing.
Clearly, the Port Angeles Economic Development Council is an effective, credible and worthwhile organization. Keep up the great work.
I was a member of the PADA for two years until I got my fill of them, because they are so full of themselves.
They want more business here so they can make more money, don't think for a minute that it's about you.
Other than in a trickle down economics way after they get the cream off the top.
Anyway, if Harper approves this post some of his readers may be interested in my hike into the hot springs today.
SPIRITS VIDEOS
I saw the article in todays' paper about this PABA meeting, and her comments.
$20,000 for the same "stakeholders" to say the same things they've been saying for years. No new inputs to the same old formula allowed.
I can hardly wait to see the results. *Yawn*
I don't understand the mind set. Those of us that have moved here, opened businesses, hire employees, pay taxes and join the groups so that our voices are heard. I have been told time and again how "it's not done that way here"or "where are you from"(snicker, snicker) or " we tried that in 1974, it didn't work"
Why are these same people hiring an OUTSIDE consultant to listen to?
is she hot?
The OUTSIDE consultant was hired to avoid the process being corrupted or compromised by (even the perception) that the "Good ol' boy" network was running the show, and would get the results they wanted. And, for that reason alone, I think it was a smart move.
I was at the meeting last night, and it was a curious mix of hope and cynicism. A lot of good ideas were brought up, and there was a LOT of honesty about the many weaknesses we have locally. No one can say for sure whether anything truly concrete will come out of this, but I am cautiously hopeful.
Ideally, one result would be cutting loose some of the extraneous deadwood we have floating around. Goodbye PABA, and goodbye PADA, for starts.
And speaking of the Chamber...I don't think I saw either Russ or Vanessa there last night. Too busy snuggled into their houses in Sequim to come to Port Angeles after dark?
