Clallam County Will Withdraw from ICLEI

Clallam County residents who have been having nightmares about black helicopters and jackbooted U.N. thugs bringing America to her knees — you can sleep soundly now.  Clallam County will be withdrawing from the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI)  at the end of this year.

Meeting to Discuss the ICLEI

According to a letter in yesterday's PDN, there will be a meeting next Monday, 9/26 at 6 p.m. at the Sequim Boys and Girls Club. This meeting will be a discussion of whether the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI) actually consists of local governments throughout the world working together to promote biodiversity and environmental sustainability — as the group's website states — or whether it's a horrifying stealth plan to have jackbooted U.N. thugs come storming into American citizens' homes to steal their property rights and destroy their freedom.

Should be an interesting meeting.

Tinfoil Hat-Wearers Unload on Clallam County Commissioners

I usually try to keep my personal opinions out of this blog, but this is beyond absurd.

For three years Clallam County has been a member of the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI). ICLEI is a worldwide association of more than 1,200 local governments that are “committed to sustainable development.” Here is the organization's website.

The local "Black Helicopters!" brigade descended on the Clallam County Commissioners earlier this week, asking that Clallam County cut ties to the ICLEI. Quick, before a gang of jackbooted United Nations thugs comes storming into YOUR home and steals your property rights.

Jefferson County Commissioner Candidate: “Them Black Helicopters is Gonna Get Us!”

I always thought global conspiracy theories — and calling one’s political opponent a Communist/Nazi/Fascist/Terrorist/whatever — were confined to national politics; and local issues were argued on their own merits.

Apparently not. Jim Boyer, District 3 county commissioner candidate, has called his opponent — incumbent John Austin — an “enviro-wacko.” Not only that, but since Clallam and Jefferson Counties are near Olympic National Park, a United Nations-sponsored Biosphere Program is going to swoop in on us and steal our property rights. Freedom will die!

The park is one of 500 sites around the world that are overseen by the Biosphere Program, which is overseen by the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Boyer said:

“I have concerns about why it seems like we have subordinated our sovereignty to an international body that makes its own rules.”

He’s also deeply concerned about the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI). The city of Port Townsend is a member of this organization, but Jefferson County isn’t. This group “provides technical consulting, training, and information services to build capacity, share knowledge and support local government in the implementation of sustainable development at the local level” according to their website.

Boyer said: “There is a link to all these things that makes me curious. I would like to know why all these guys are tied together and who's making the rules.”
