Chinook Motel Might Be Demolished

The Chinook Motel has been bequeathed to the nephew of the motel's previous owner, William Youtef, who passed away several weeks ago.  The nephew, Aihab Gerges, is considering demolishing the building and selling the land.

Yeah, that is going to happen real soon. Everyone knows the economy is rebounding, because all that debt just evaporated, and now folks have money to burn!

Put a $2 million price tag on that property. Port Angeles property is GOLD.

(Ignore all foreclosures and continuing rising unemployment here, those are all just the "Liberal Media Lies".)

As if that is going to help a dead owner.

"Port Angeles property is GOLD."

Only in the minds of the local real estate agents; everyone else sees the reality of LOSER Port Angeles.

"Germany Embarks on Historic Alternative Energy Push
As it phases out nuclear power in wake of public outcry, Germany to make largest investment since World War II."

In looking at what other countries are doing to address their energy needs, I see many are investing in a future free of fossil fuels. No one can say Germany is not a current leading industrial power in the world, yet they are planning on being fossil fuel free within a few years.

But here, we get fed a load of crap about how our country has to continue to rely on fossil fuels. Look into who is funding the lobbyists and ads that say this is the case. The American Petroleum Association is one. Hardly unbiased. (Are you enjoying paying over $4 a gallon for gas, as fuel has become the top US EXPORT??)

In Port Angeles, we are being fed a similar line of crap about the "bio-mass" project at Nippon. We have the massive power of the tides pushing past Port Angeles every day of the year, 4 times each day. We don't have to worry about clouds blocking solar panels, or wind-less days not spinning turbines. The tides happen, regardless, everyday and night. You think this is idle fantasy? Snohomish PUD filed an application on March 1st for a tide power project for its' grid, locally.

We could have all the clean power we could use, if we made it a priority. Instead, we fall prey to the crap spewed out by the corporate powers who will profit from the "bio-mass" project.

The people in Port Angeles end up just being chumps for the folks making the bucks off the "special deals". Are we ever going to wake up?

Hey - I heard that Kent Myers didn't attend this week's city council meeting, and that Nathan West presided instead. Is Myers job shopping again?
Nathan West is ineffectual and has never had professional role models to demonstrate how to work in the public interest rather than one's own self interest. So he will fit right into the mold of former city managers, if that is what he is being groomed for.
Lots more unresolved Chinook Motel eyesores in our future; but lots of money for outside consultants to design pretty projects for Railroad Ave.

That's too bad. I always thought it'd great to renovate that thing into a retro-future motel / cafe. Kind of a Jetson's theme park.

Of course I wouldn't make that kind of investment in Port Angeles. Too risky. I guess we could turn it into a park and ride.

"I guess we could..."

Or let the future owner make that call.

Sheesh, such disconnect. Gotta love the independents.

Disconnect nothing. The current owner plans on leveling the structure, turning it into a vacant lot. Have you seen what happens to vacant lots in Port Angeles? Usually nothing. You're assuming there will be a new owner and that owner will create new structures that will be used and generate revenue. I'm assuming it will be a vacant lot for years, maybe getting some use out of the people at the bus stop. I hope I'm wrong and everything works out wonderful, really I do. Sure not going to hold my breath.

I fully expect this property to sit around forever until its turned into an eye-sore used car lot.

How many years has the former Midas Muffler shop been empty? Don't think it has enough visibility? Not enough parking?

Now they are going to tear down the former PenPly property. How long will that sit empty? How long has the nearby waterfront Oak Street property been empty?

"How long has the nearby waterfront Oak Street property been empty?"

You mean our "convention center"?
