Dog Park in Lincoln Park

According to Richard Bonine, Port Angeles recreation services manager, there is now enough funding to build an off-leash dog area in Lincoln Park.  The dog park will be 1.8 acres and will be built east of the BMX track.  It should be completed within the next few months.

I don't own a dog, won't have one unless I move out to the boondocks.

It seems a little premature to go investing money in park features when the whole thing is currently under review for the master plan process.

I don't begrudge dog owners for wanting a dog park, but it would be nice if the head of the Parks Dept spent this much effort maintaining the rest of Lincoln Park with the money they already have set aside for it.

What a fabulous spot.

Last time I visited Victoria, I saw they have an off leash dog walking area right along the waterfront pathway. The area is about 1.5 miles long, and enjoyed by crowds of people on a nice Sunday. With dogs, or without.

It is right across the street from the residential areas, and people don't have to get in their cars to take their dogs there.

I just looked on Google. There are many off-leash dog areas around Victoria, seems in all of their parks.

Aren't Port Angeles city officials going to Victoria these days? Maybe they can learn a thing or two?

I looked up the parks and dog places across the Strait, on the 'net. Here are a few (and, note the lack of smokestacks on their waterfront) :

Or, in downtown Victoria: Beacon Hill Park: A garden park located in downtown Victoria since 1882 near the Inner Harbour. Beacon Hill Park is often the highlight of many naturalist who visit Victoria, BC. The 200+ acres is a well landscaped floral garden with ponds and two lakes. beacon Hill Park is meticulously cared for with groomed walking trails throughout the park crossing over bridges looking out over over lakes and ponds.

Or, just a few minutes North of downtown Victoria: Elk/Beaver Lake Park: Two lakes attached at the hip. Elk/Beaver Lake Park has a beach, some shaded picnic areas, a wheel chair accessible dock and some 15 km ( 9 miles ) of casual walking, jogging and horse back trails. Kayakers, canoes and fisherman use the lakes regularly. Elk Lake is the home to the Canadian Rowing Team. Ya... go Canada! Elk/Beaver Lake Park is located, just, north of downtown Victoria BC in Saanich off Hwy #1.

Or, Dallas Rd, where so many Victorians go for a quick walk, or a long stroll.. with their dogs or not.

The lists I found are too many to post here. Makes me think: Why does their city seem so nice? It is only 17 miles or so away. Planning, or lack there of in Port Angeles, seems to be a key issue.

What if two unleashed dogs don't like each other and get in a fight and one gets hurt bad?

I'm just wondering....

I'm sure I'm not the only person to notice the massive amounts of dog poop on the down town streets.

From what I've seen, most of the dogs figure out what is going on, and they all get along.

And, there is that funny concept called being a "responsible pet owner".
