Hurricane Ridge Ski Area Closed For Season

The Hurricane Ridge Ski and Snowboard Area is officially closed as of yesterday.  The ski area didn't open this year until mid-February because the winter got off to such a slow start.  The scheduled April 1st closure came even though Hurricane Ridge is now covered with fresh snow and above-normal snowpack.

To save billions of dollars a year, and possibly quadrillions in future pension liabilities for taxpayers, and make a lot of people happy, Congress should just pass a law, outlawing motor veihicles in all National Parks, except to rescue morons. Local areas could decide what was allowed and could pay for rescues. This all would put trailheads much closer to the little cities that surround our National Parks. Then, specialty businesses that would cater to hikers, photographers, fishingpersons, backcountry backpackers, decompression nature oriented motels, dehydrated food companies, candle dipping outfits (LOL) would congregate very near the trailheads. Would be cool - to have services right at the trailheads. There of course would have to be a no-car/no-loud noise buffer zone. South PA would be like Aspen, except instead of attracting rich coked-up assholes, it would attract the aforementioned. In a few years, no one would know the difference - that they lost that great access - think the Elwha and Hoh. If you really wanted to go skiing at Hurricane Ridge, you could ride a horse there. Or hire someone to take you on a horse. When our government has money again, or by volunteer efforts, the roads would eventually be returned to trails. A system would also be created so we could have way more (far) backcountry shelters and cabins. Non native animals would be shot, and eaten. All of this all over the country. If you were lucky enough to own property in a place like Lake Dawn or Olympic Hot Springs Road, or by the Park HQ on Race, you would see your property values skyrocket.
