Kent, as they used to say where you are going, before it was ruined by people like you, lassen Sie sich nicht die Tür schlagen Sie in Ihrem Arsch.

Now would be a good time to get rid of the city manager position - like yesterday. Let's do it before he leaves just to make a statement. We all know that privitization in government DOES NOT WORK - unless your goal is to make people distrust government more. Let's go back to having some accountability (pardon the pun LOL) and ELECT those who run our city. Just a guess, but I'd bet there are people around here now that are willing to step up to the plate and show some vision and leadership all rolled up into one. If not, since we are still controlled by the developers and realtors etc., we will just have to endure another has-been, with limited, outdated vision, who is out of his element with nothing to do really except eat PORK - until the bubble comes back. That in itself is not so bad, from a spending viewpoint, but these people have been concentrating all their efforts (other than the hypocritical pork feast) on MUCKING THINGS UP, making Port Angeles LESS SAFE and less livable and now is our chance to fix a huge error. I wonder if he will keep a residence here, since I'd imagine he will have to testify in corruption and theft cases for years to come? Naw, his testimony probably wouldn't carry much weight anyway.

Best news in a couple years. Kent has been a problem since he got here.

But, I'm not holding my breath that the reign of the City Staff will end any time soon. Who will do the preliminary interviews? Staff. Who will "recommend" the vote of approval of the selected replacement to the council? Staff.

So. No change, in any real terms.

new boss, same as the old boss. The culture of the city is too screwed up to have anything else.

Do people in this town really not understand how our city structure is set up? The comments here do not make sense in that context. Before you make a comment about how things should or should not be run here, maybe you should go get educated about the structure of this city and who is in charge of what. Then you could at least make comments that didn't make you sound like you don't know what you are talking about because you apparently don't understand the structure, who is responsible for what, etc.

Let's hope the new City Manager knows their place - subordinate to the City Council!

Let's hope the new City Manager knows how to do their job - fire that oaf Glenn Cutler!

good luck Kent, being city manager of this screwed up town has to have been the worst job on the planet. No amount of pay could be worth it.

Kent was a fish out of water from the get-go --- which is probably why the then-city-council hired him. They wanted to assure that he would be so unprepared to manage the entrenched staff that the real power would stay with people like Cutler and Rogers.
To his credit, he managed to find another job back in Texas where he and the people he is to manage will be singing from the same songsheet.
He and his wife will undoubtedly be happier back where they came from. Living in and managing the little town in Texas will undoubtedly be a better fit.

our town is set up as a WEAK MAYOR town, meaning the city council and the mayor are not the ones in charge, the city manager is.
The city manager is chosen by the heads of departments at the city, city HR, etc., and the council only has some muted say on it, but not the final word.
We have had a long, long history of some nearly criminal city managers, some totally morally corrupt ones, and some really BAD ones. I cannot imagine the next one won't be just as crazy as the last 5 or 6. Who in their right minds would want to minister over a town of 17k, with the department heads we have, and the state's ongoing investigation of wrongdoing at the city and county level. We have a bunch of insane old men and women pulling strings from "behind the curtain" in a perverted "old boys network". Who would want to come swim in this sharkpit?

"We all know that privatization in government DOES NOT WORK . . . " Port Angeles' system of government is NOT privatized. And the prospect of electing a city manager is ludicrous.

Please, define "the hypocritical pork feast."

Details, please. I haven't heard about any ongoing investigations.

Though, obviously, from an investigation standpoint, Karen Rogers is the gift that keeps giving.

Yes, American style representative government, at its' best.

The voters do not get to elect any of these department heads. But they run the government.

Great.

Yes, with no influence by City Staff. And, The Easter Bunny really did hide eggs for my kids to find this morning.
