No Invasive Species Found on Dock from Japan

Researchers have found no invasive species in the samples of thirty species of marine life taken from the dock that washed up on a beach south of La Push.  The dock is believed to be some of the debris from the March 2011 earthquake/tsunami in Japan.

Scientists are also testing for possible radioactivity.

Any of us who live near, or work around floating docks, boats, or any pilings know it does not take long for seaweed, mussels, barnacles and aLOT of other things to make those things their home.

Where did all the living things that must have made that structure their home, go?

I'm more concerned about all the fucking monkeys without employment here, I'm hopeful that they'll move away before they start stealing from us, maybe even killing us.

We can see from those unemployment numbers that the policies of the conservative dominated leadership of the Port, City and County are really working.

Compared to conservative dominated Clallam, the more liberal dominated counties in Washington State are doing much better. Not surprising, as most would rather live in a positive environment, instead of being surrounded by the constant whine of the declining angry old white men.

We're patient. They are dying off.

Have you looked at who makes up the conservatives in America, these days? Angry old white men, mostly.

Someone explain to me, how Clallam and PA can be so conservative, and be so soft on crime? I see it all the time, violent criminals and seriously out of control theives/drug addicts being let out in Clallam with just a small bail. And then they draw out the investigation, as long as possible, hoping the person goes back to CA, Kent, Everett, whereever. In Jefferson, not so much.

And when someone is wanted, the cops and the PDN put out a description like "skinny old guy", like the carjacking last night at Wendy's. There was more info. about the fucking car stolen! Of course cars can't sue cops, like Rodney King did. Cowards. They are chicken of the criminals here. Makes no sense.

And everyday, the knuckledragging commenters at the PDN whine about liberals being soft on crime.

What they really mean, is that cowards in PA are afraid of their RELATIVES!

Is that you Harry? Being as you personally know me and are a witty shit that damn sure looks like something you would write.

Soft on crime? Fuck, there's an attorney on every goddamn street, they gotta make a damn living, it's just a frigging game to them and they need the employment.

It's not like we can afford to have them write our fucking wills so I can leave my property to someone.

Not that anyone would want it, so I'm going to stick the fucking county with it, they can haul the shit off with trucks and make a goddamn dog park out of it.

They'll raise everyone's taxes to pay for the water bill but I won't care, dead sons a bitches don't care much about anything.

What they really mean, is that cowards in PA are afraid of their RELATIVES!

Bullshit, I out lived the ones I didn't kill.

How many years has Clallam had conservatives in leadership positions? After all the name calling, rhetoric during the election cycles, and promises of "change", Port Angeles continues to go nowhere.

Remember when the City Council decided to SUE their own citizens for taking the time out of their lives, and collect petition signatures door-to-door?

Remember when the Mayor threatened to turn off the water to Gales Addition which is populated mostly by elderly and poor people, in the heat of the summer? Why? To force the residents to accept the terms of a deal they were proposing!

How many new businesses are going to want to move into a community that does these things to their residents?

I saw the news clip about Everett working to redevelop it's former mill site, which is also waterfront. Given a choice between remote and regressive Port Angeles, and a community closer to EVERYTHING, what responsible CEO would select Port Angeles?

People come to Port Angeles, but they leave, once they see what is really going on here.

I've only lived here since 98 but I often think the city does some pretty anal things, and waste a lot of money doing them. I'm just thankful I'm not in the city limits.

From what I've heard PUD is cheaper and I have no complaints about them, think they provide good services. Was real easy to work with when I put in my electrical service panel.

Actually, I often think I should have stayed in Utah where I had 60 acres and a parts house.

But I get stupid fucking ideas sometimes, like moving here. :-)

He doesn't even respond to my emails to him anymore, I guess that's understandable, I'm not insane but I may be a carrier. :-)

So at the bar yesterday the subject of crabs came up and I said that my sister got them and had to shave her, never mind.

Hey, Paul Gottlieb: I know you read this blog, you useless piece of shit, so maybe you can tell me...Why does the PDN delete SO MANY of the comments on the stories they post online? I mean, it's so obvious, so painfully obvious. Why have the function if you're not going to let your (few) readers have their say? What is the PDN afraid of, huh???

And hey, Anon 12:41 PM, December 30...You've got it exactly right. Port Angeles IS a big waste of space - literally. In that way, the PDN is the PERFECT "newspaper" for this town.

PA has the same mentality most cities have, they think they have to grow to become better places.

A lot of the folks that were born and grew up here would disagree with that, and I agree with them.

I would consider a small town with a population limit a place I might want to move too.

Maybe I should move to Beaver.

You have to download the TIFF and open it, to see the recent transaction. Not indexed the "normal" way....

Anyone know if it was a shorty?

The listing on zillow says it was listed less than it sold for, and the "listing was removed" right before it sold. Must be nice to have friends!

Anon 3:41 AM New Year's Day:
Is the link you provided to information about the short sale of the former city manager's home? Strong rumor has it that the bank (First Federal?) did indeed forgive some of the outstanding mortgage amount. If so, sad commentary on how the insiders get richer trading favors with their own kind.
Any connection between such a sweetheart deal for the former CM and the sudden departure of First Fed's CEO? Let's watch and see whether a banker formerly from Port Angeles lands a sweet job in Texas!

Yes, the former City Manager got a sweetheart deal from First Fed. This is fairly common knowledge.

Look at the established facts, then look at the timing. Kent Myers was only one of several city employees who got "cashed out" in what was later described as an "improper" procedure. When the pressure started to bear down on him, he decided to request that the city's former financial director, Yvonne Z., be offically investigated. I think he hoped this would distract from his own shortcomings and personal problems. Obviously it didn't - a few months later he was gone. (And good riddance.) But he did manage to snag one final sweetheart deal with his house before he got shown the door.

Final Score: Yvonne Z. loses her job and is dragged through the mud in the press. Kent Myers got a friendly farewell and a HUGE HUGE HUGE payout for leaving - and didn't so much as get his wrist slapped for throwing Yvonne (and current CM McKeen) under the bus to try and cover his own ass. The good folks at First Fed were apparently happy to do their part for Kent. And the residents of Suckertown, USA got to foot the bill for all this, and more.

And that was 2012 in Port Angeles. Can't wait to see what our wise "leaders" have in store for 2013.

Oh, and to the peacenik rainbow good vibe type who posts here, my apologies for being so "negative" in recounting these facts. I realize that being honest about what goes on here is the problem, not the fact that our community is treated like a personal ATM by a select few. So sorry to bum your high. Good luck with that whole "happy and healthy community" thing.

Will appreciate understanding what is being discussed. Thanks.

Anonymous @ 8:34, thanks for the history lesson.

It's pretty obvious there's all manner of backhanded back scratching goes on in this in fine fcuking town but connecting the dots isn't all that easy for those who don't know the players or the play.

We should at least get a reach around while we take it in the ass from TPTB.

Somebody else can supply the exact dollar figures; it sounds like a few people who post here know the details. But the rumor going around about the city manager's sweetheart deal is that he owed far more on his home mortgage than his house was worth. So - when the house sold for a sum substantially under the amount still owed to the bank, the bank forgave the difference.
If he had been treated like the rest of us whose home values have taken a hit in this economy, he likely would have had to go through months and months of painful negotiations with the bank and yet still have had to bring money to the table in order to get out from under the debt. From the outside looking in, this appeared to be a relatively pain-free process for the person who benefited.
Then again, maybe those who know the details should set the record straight. Because many people view the former CM as a shallow smooth-talker who did a poor job for Port Angeles when here, it is easier to believe rumors that he took advantage of his connections for personal gain.
Whether he got a sweetheart bank deal or not, one thing seems obvious: the former CM never became truly invested in this community or intended to stay here for long.

People like that come here to "help" us because the city is foolish enough to really good wages to get them here.

I don't think they are any smarter or wiser than a lot of the local hicks here that that may willing to do some of those positions for half what it's now costing the city.

Anonymous 10:02 AM, January 02, 2013: From what I know, you've got it essentially correct. Including the part about him not being vested in Port Angeles as a community. Just another consultant hired by the city for big bucks.

On a related, but opposite note, thank you, Dan McKeen.

Thanks for the explanations.

Reminds me of the "investment clubs" out of town developers would form in advance of going public with projects, where they would approach prominant people in the community and offer "shares" in their project. These shares would offer great returns, but were contingent on the project getting approvals, getting built, and selling out. With these clubs, which the general public was not aware of, the developer was assured of active and aggressive "community support" by local leadership for their project.

Has a familiar ring to it!
