Dupuis Restaurant For Sale

Dupuis Restaurant, on Highway 101 between Port Angeles and Sequim, is for sale by the owner.  The restaurant's owner, due to health issues and a stagnant economy, is looking for a new owner for the 80-year-old restaurant which she's owned for the past fifteen years.  She plans to keep the restaurant open until she finds a buyer.

Enlightening article with comments about the pot growers in Jeff. on the PDN - with an explanation why they don't go after the tweaker theives in the area - no assets to seize! Got pot plants? Be careful. They want your house and will LIE to get it and will devote tons and tons of resources trying.

Stealing your neighbor's tools with a gun in your pocket, even though you are a convicted criminal? Your cell phone isn't worth that much, so have at it. They are not interested. Nor do they want you to get treatment, just costs money, that you do not have. Plus, who cares? It's much easier to just hope that you will die or move away.

And FURTHERMORE...remember the law dude last month saying there were only 5 residential burglaries in Clallam in the last year and all the talk about crime in the area wasn't true? Check out the article on the Forks paper by the pastor of the church there. It's a very sad and interesting article, it will shock you.

Her decline in business is during the same period of time the smart leadership in Port Angeles was wasting millions of taxpayer's money in forming the HarborWorks PDA.

Remember how they intended to try to attract new businesses to the area? Instead of spending money to help the ones already here?

I ate there once, wasn't impressed. Just had a good chicken fried steak at the club.

File under: WHO CARES? Let Barbra buy it - I heard she ate there once.

And anon 10:05 AM, January 13, 2013 is right on the mark. The local economic decline would be happening even if the national economy was going strong, due to our stupid, stupid, stupid local "leaders."

But take heart! Peter Ripley is going to run for City Council again! Better days must surely lie ahead...

Speaking of new business, the PDN has an article about the new vasectomy clinic in PA.

Oh, wait, they went with the article about the serial breeder, instead.

Unfortunately for us, the economic decline we have is concentrated on the oly pen. Recent travels to other cities in the northwest reveal broad economic activity including commercial construction and manufacturing. We are left in the dust of economic change.

People are bailing on this area, due to crime. Many, many residents (talking about homeowners not biz owners) are concerned, but many aren't, and that's the most frustrating thing about living in this area.

Here are two more commercial properties in the area that might be available soon.

"We are left in the dust of economic change."

Yet, anyone reading the comments on the PDN page can see that the reactionary righteous are well represented here on the Oly Pen.

People might ask WHY is Port Angeles being left behind. What conditions exist that make Port Angeles less attractive to those wishing to invest in a community.

With energy costs being what they are, why would a manufacturing company locate a business this far away from the I-5 corridor? Why would a company add on extra transportation and labor costs just to gets materials and products to and from this area?

And, remember the assessment done by NOAA, when they were considering Port Angeles for a new facility? They cited a poor "quality of life" here. They didn't want to subject their employees and their families to Port Angeles.

I know there are folks in Port Angeles that think it is the best place in the world. Clearly, many others do not agree.

There is nothing wrong with Port Angeles that a smaller population wouldn't fix, there's just too many people here for the economy.

The problem with people asking "why is Port Angeles being left behind" is people always try to point their finger at one easy solution. It's the mills or Max Mania or the realtors or the liberals or some crap. If we just get rid of those everything will be fine.

Fact is, this town has problems that go beyond one simple answer. Note: problems plural. It's a big, ugly ball of problems twisted and tied up together. And just like a ball the problems keep rolling along, year after year, unstoppable.

You want change? Stop looking for quick fixes, recognize that the ball will be rolling for years to come, and start working on unraveling it string by string.

Or move. I partly agree with Billy. If the town empties even 5% there will be more job opportunities and less tax base, starving the beast as it were.

Hello?! Have you looked around, lately? Counted all the empty storefronts, and "For Rent" signs in front of houses and apartments?

When I moved to a small town in Utah half the buildings on main street were empty. What did that tell me? That I was going to get a damn good deal on some business property, and I did.

Hello!? Have you seen population figures for Port Angeles lately? It's been pretty flat for years.

In the last census, ALL the towns in Clallam County gained population - EXCEPT for Port Angeles. PA's went down something like 300 people. Look at all the empty houses sitting around forever with FOR RENT or FOR SALE signs in front of them. PA is on the way to becoming a ghost town.

The "leadership" in this town needs to figure out what is right in front of them. Their approaches and views do not appeal to enough people.

Sure, there are going to be the old reactionaries that are going to rail away against any change. They'll keep saying " Atta boy!" to the politicians that stay with the old views.

But look around. People are voting with their pocketbooks. People are choosing to live in nice communities, because they have a CHOICE! And they are choosing NOT to live or invest in Port Angeles.

Port Angeles will never become a ghost town. It will just be the ratty little backwater it is now.
