Unemployment Rate Up in Clallam County

In Clallam County, the unemployment rate went up to 9.9% last month.  It had been 9.1% the previous month.  The state's regional economist for this area said there were about 130 fewer jobs from November to December, and more people are looking for work.  However, December's unemployment rate of 9.9% was a full percentage point lower than December 2011.

The statewide unemployment rate is currently 7.6%.

Just think what those numbers would be if we weren't so busy cutting down trees and sending them off to China!

But, but, the leaders want the population to grow and for the city to expand. So they have more to lord over and control.

Me thinks our leaders are not very wise.

No, our leaders are not very wise. This (negative) difference in the local unemployment rate is due to an almost total lack of intelligent, informed local "leaders." They still think this is 1950. They still think Port Angeles is a mill town. They think climate change is a hoax.

And this is the result. Their thinking is backwards, and the unemployment rate goes upwards. Thanks, Mayor McMoonbeam. Thanks corrupt Port Commissioners. And thanks clueless County Commissioners. You ALL have SO MUCH to be proud of.

They are trying to attract a certain type of resident to the area, in anticipation of that wood siding installation boom.

Think 50 year old guy. Drives a big truck. Wears baseball cap backwards. Has lots of tools that have not been used in 4 years. Does not vote, but has a "How is that Hopey Changey Thing Working For You?"

Officer Woodpile (no relation) commented that although the woodpile was very well known by law enforcement, there was no indication of any foul play.

Yes, I can see that only in Clallam County are there "commercial santa clauses". Because the rest of the State shamefully does not believe in Santa Claus, their employment rates did not suffer such declines.

If the government says the rate is 9.1, this does not take into account people who haven't looked for work in 4 weeks, laid off people (seasonal employment), people who have been on unemployment until benefits have run out, under-employed (less than 40 hours a week) and people who never qualified for unemployment (graduating students, fired employees, etc.) The REAL rate is closer to 25-30%. The problem is that small business cannot compete against large corporations (who get bills passed to legislate small companies to death). This economy cannot recover until we have small/medium businesses healthy and thriving. We're in this depression for another 10 years.
