Pettit Oil Has Closed
Pettit Oil, a petroleum distribution company, has closed its doors. It had facilities in Port Angeles, Port Townsend and Forks. The company sought bankruptcy protection last month. Callers to the company's 800 number were greeted by this recording:
“We regret to inform you that after many years of service, Pettit Oil has closed its doors and is no longer in business. We appreciate your many years of loyalty as a customer.”

Boy! Some people will do anything to get out of Port Angeles!
Did it have anything to do with the Harbor Clean up, that they are starting to study? Didn't Pettit have it's tanks and operations down near Marine Drive?
Just asking. Anybody know?
The company certainly has been a long-time fixture on the Port Angeles waterfront. I wonder whether the bankruptcy could have had something to do with the firm's liability for contributing to harbor cleanup costs? Were they leasing their land from the Port?
Hmm. Looks like a couple folks have a similar question. Doesn't make it true, but interesting that people come to that conclusion. The paper says Pettit has been in operation for 75 years.
Even though it's not a Port Angeles issue per se, this does mean even more jobs lost in Port Angeles. It's like dopey Jody Moss is quoted as saying on the KONP site: The recession may be over everywhere elese, but not in Clallam County.
Yes, Clallam County is ahead of the curve in being behind the times. We're stuck in, at best, 1950. Doesn't bode well for the future, being stuck in the past...
It only takes a little homework to figure this stuff out. Or is homework too uncool?

Pettit's problems are bigger than PA. Lets not be myopic like the
PDN commenters. Pettit's bankruptcy has nothing to do with Port Angeles and everything to do with bad business practices.
The cleanup was not the cause for the bankruptcy. The company's operations had been losing money for a long time. The company owed the banks significantly more than the company was worth.
I did not see that coming...
But, good timing! Even if it wasn't the cause for their bankruptcy, they won't be on the hook for any pollution, if any is found.
Cuz we all know petrochemicals are not often the culprits in these kinds of cleanups.
"Cuz we all know petrochemicals are not often the culprits in these kinds of cleanups."
Righto - Anon 6:39 PM. City officials profess that harbor pollution is caused mainly by storm water runoff from streets and occasional but unfortunate CSO events. That's why utility bills tack-on extra monthly surcharges to pay for pollution remediation studies.
Can't wait to see the City cave in and settle with Yvonne Z. Those fucking sexist idiots. I hope she soaks 'em.

LOL! Oh, and how closely do you want to look at THAT??
Look at your utility bill, and see how many times you are being charged for the same thing!! Water, Use, CSO, Storm water, Cleanup, etc .
But, nobody looks into it.
Yeah, let's hope Yvonne Z. gets more money out of the city than Dale got out of the County!
I'm wondering if the price of petroleum products will go up here now. Like it or not we all use them.
Well, I'm using a LOT less of those petro products than I used to, that's for sure.
My current car gets more than 3 times the mileage my old one got. I use in a month, what I used to use in a week.
Future PDN headline: "City settles with former employee for undisclosed amount."
Hopefully said amount will be rather large.
I use about 25 gallons of gas a month, that is less than what many use and I can't part with my small truck I go camping with.
I'm at around 10 gallons a month, now.
Looking forward to building an all electric. 12 volt technology is pretty simple stuff. Way more efficient than gas, and way more powerful.
I wonder if it is legal for the city to tax it's residents for the same utility in so many different ways. It seems deceptive.
I recall that Max Mania tried to raise the alarm about the so-called smart meters while he was on the city council, but no one listened. Now the city has pissed away a couple of million bucks, the things don't work, and they're headed to court with the contractor. Great. Just another opportunity for the city to waste your money, and to ignore the voice of reason. Great. Just great.
Ten gallons a month deserves a pat on the back...
The "Stoner Bowl"!
The two pot states go at it.

5:48 - Instead of saying "no one listened to Max" why not say "another reason THEY drove him out of town"? It's more positive, constructive, and true!
Sad about Screech and Blossom!
Maybe they can toss all the ironically named smart meters into Cutler's Turd Tank on the waterfront? Turn it into a carnival attraction, and have Peter Ripley run it? Give it up, because Port Angeles is totally doomed?
There is a silver lining, if any customers need to get back on the road FAST you can contact Ernie's Fueling Network at 888-236-3835. Just give us a call and we'll get you back on the road.
