Port Angeles Arts Council to hold Forum on Lincoln Theater

Tomorrow night, 6 p.m. at Studio Bob, 118-1/2 East Front Street, there will be a brainstorming session on what to do with the Lincoln Theater, which closed on March 2nd.  The forum is being sponsored by the Port Angeles Arts Council, which doesn't have a plan for the theater.

This forum will be followed up with a results meeting on June 4th, also at Studio Bob.

Good luck with that!

Maybe Bob will get the contract, whatever it is.

Stealing topics yet again from Port Angeles Unearthed? They hit the whole Lincoln Theater thing this morning hours before you got out of bed, Tom.

"Anonymous" @ 4:36 p.m.: Oh, sorry Max, I forgot to check your blog today and see what you and your imaginary friends are bantering about.

My bad.

Say hi to the voices in your head for me.

I don't get why some see the blogs as somehow in competition.

This town needs all the help it can get. If there are more than 2 or 3 forums by which people can discuss things, why is that a bad thing?

Why think a topic concerning the whole town can only be talked about on one forum? Wasn't the story first in the PDN? Nobody has ownership of the issues confronting this place.

So, why the hostilities?

Anon. 7:09 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.: I couldn't agree more. The more local blogs and forums, the better, IMHO.

Every time I do a post on a subject that Port Angeles Unearthed has already written about, somebody comes storming over here to complain that I'm "cribbing" from PAU. Using that same "logic," PAU has no right to "crib" articles from the PDN; the Seattle Times shouldn't crib stories from the Seattle Post-Intelligencer website. Etc.

And maybe some of us don't go to PAU or the PDN. I RSS this site so if I don't see it on here or Facebook then I guess I don't know about it. Which would render me almost as ignorant as these trolls who are trying to perpetuate a silly competition between the two blogs.

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and actually talk about the Lincoln Theatre. It was at one time a cool old building, and I wonder what (if anything) remains under the unfortunate remodel and conversion to multi screen years ago. I think the Main Street program we hear about in conjunction with the PADA is actually a program of The National Trust, and is supposed to be about Preservation. Provided the basic structure is sound enough to rehab, there may be funds available to restore the Lincoln. If a non profit were established for this purpose, the project could be accomplished without much help (interference) from the City and it‘s various nut-box of depts. and organizations. If the building proves to be unsound, we can always build a gazillion dollar bus stop.

No kidding! This city sure knows how to blow the big bucks!

Whereas I agree, in principle, that it would be cool to restore the building back to it's original state, with the organ and original fixtures, I doubt the money is there to do it.

Look at the debt load people in town have already been saddled with. And, look at what the community feelings about Civic Field have been. Few want to spend the money on something our kids use. Look how the Fine Arts Center struggles to survive, year to year.

Of course there are people in town that have more money than others. I'm not so sure they are enough to restore and maintain the Lincoln into the future.

BBC, no one expects you to care about anything much past your own snarky arsehole, so, no surprise.

Seems like odds are way against the Lincoln Theater rising again, but I'd love to see it happen if at all possible. This town could use it.

@ 8:46 PM....

Theaters are fast becoming a thing of the past, live performances are cool but they already have a playhouse in town and I don't see it being used for that in the future, they need to put it on the market and let the next owner figure out what to do with it, if they can even sell it.

I have a cool hat. :-)

Maybe you can get the city to buy it, Cherie Kid is really into the old nostalgic things like wanting lots of your money to restore the old high school.

Virtual Reality, ever experience any of that? (outside of Star Trek that is) I have, it is really cool, the old Lincoln would be an ideal place for something like that but I don't see something like that coming to this town for years.

As we see, yet another business downtown goes out of business, citing "economic hardship".

Glad to see those 26 or so "economic development" groups, business groups and "business friendly" politicians are making Port Angeles a thriving place!

BBC... Nawww, virtual reality is so last century. The new thing is "augmented reality". Which would be cool to mix in with PA, but... well, it's PA.

Glad to see the Arts folks come up with new ideas. A theatre for old classic movies? Who would have thought of THAT?

Of course, the local community would come up with the money to fund that.

It is this innovative, new approach to problems and issues that keeps Port Angeles ahead of other communities.

WTF? I am pretty sure the original construction is over the facade, after all, in the late 1930's it would have been MUCH cheaper to just cover it (and no earthquake standards to worry about). The building needs a LOT of other things, though, as the bathrooms aren't legal in any way, and the renovations (I use the term loosely) have been done really cheap and crap-tasticly. All of the original fixtures were sold on ebay years ago. However, I think the city should buy it and then lease it to a non-profit. Why not? They're used to throwing around money, why not to a good cause?
