Port Angeles Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center Gets Permit

The Planning Commission voted 6-0 to grant a conditional use permit  for a drug and alcohol treatment center which will be located at the corner of Race and East Fifth Streets.  The clinic could be open as early as September.

Some people in the neighborhood objected to the location of the clinic.  City planning manager Sue Roberds said opponents have fourteen days to appeal the permit, but their objections can only be based on facts considered incorrect in the application, and not their opinions of the project itself.

Don't ya love democracy, and the way local government represents the will of the residents?

And people wonder why so few bother to show up to government meetings?

Reminds me of trying to submit a "Letter to the Editor" to the local paper, the Peninsula Daily News. Ever try?

If the editor, Paul Gottlieb, doesn't like what you write about, he will try to get you to re-write your letter. See, you don't get to express an *opinion*. Your opinion. Unless they jive with what the editor agrees with. THEN you can rant on with all kinds of outrageous statements.

Same with the City. They only "consider" things said that agree with what they want to do.

No room for anything but the party line.

So, most just stay home. Why bother?

The War on Drugs has failed primarily because our tactics have been skewed toward criminal punishment as opposed to public health.
The need for in patient Rehab on the Peninsula is Critical and longstanding. Clearly, Port Angeles could utilize two or three facilities of this size, and at capacity RIGHT NOW... The derelict nursing home on 5th seems perfectly suited to this purpose. They should develop the crappy apartments next door as transitional Oxford type housing while they’re at it.
I can see the building from my house, and I’ve been aware of the project for months. The conditional use permit seems pretty standard for around here , and I figure those opposed will eventually find a new issue. Of course, some dim bulb Republican politician might just decide to create an issue, in which case they will block it, and go back to bitching about all the darnn junkies around here.

I agree with you, WTF? Anyone who spends 5 minutes walking around downtown, watching those poor souls yelling at the walls (or whatever) knows this community needs all the help it can get.

Was listening to a clip about the "culture" which says we should celebrate every event in our lives with alcohol (or some other substance). You're not REALLY enjoying the moment without a beer, shot, smoke of some kind, or?

You're not REALLY relaxing, if you don't have a cup of coffee, or a glass of wine.

Of course punishment for those that take those messages to an extreme isn't the answer.

But, rolling over neighborhood concerns isn't exactly wonderful, either. Neither approaches (punishment and ignore the public) work.

"Behavioral Health"?

So, what to do?

What we need is a clinic that caters to the families of such heathens. A clinic that teaches TOUGH LOVE. Then we can slough off the problem on some other community. Of course then those families would lose their economic vitality, but they could move too. Kent really isn't that bad.

So ... Alan Turner writes a letter to the PDN decrying P.A. United as a scam. All well and good, right?

Wrong.

This is the same Alan Turner who supported Sandy "The Shill" Long against Doctor Dale Holiday, openly displaying a sign for Long and writing the only letter of support for Long.

Alan Turner's pathetic attempt to play the Progressive is disgusting. We know you were in cahoots with Matt Randazzo, Alan. We know you were part of Jack Slowriver's whispering campaign against Doctor Dale Holiday, Alan. You're nothing but a jive turkey sell out!

Anon. 2:02 p.m. is right on, but doesn't go far enough. Everyone that didn't vote for Doctor Dale Holiday, and didn't support her 1000%, is a traitor to The Cause. Many many times I personally saw Alan Turner, Matt Randazzo and Jack Slowriver standing around in their little group, giggling and pointing and mimicking whenever Dale or Max walked by. They're just mean, mean, mean, and so is everyone else who didn't vote for Dale and didn't prostrate themselves on the ground whenever Dale or Max approached.

Dale and Max were our Saviors. I'll never ever get over their leaving and I'm gonna just keep crying and sobbing and screeching and stamping my foot until I'm all cried out.
