Chamber of Commerce Executive Director to Step Down Next Year

Russ Veenema, Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce executive director, is planning to resign at the end of 2015 when his current contract expires.  He said:

“As of now, yes, the plan would be for me to leave the chamber at the end of 2015.  It’s been a great job, the board is terrific, and we’re all looking forward to the new look of the chamber that we are looking forward to putting on in 2015.”

Finally.

Not that I think his leaving will change things that much, but atleast it is a start in the right direction.

Dear Mr Veenema, Don't let the door hit you in the butt on your way out!

Yes, a big start in the right direction. He's always looked down on others, tried to take over rather than try and create new things.
If you work with him, his way, he might see his way to getting you a Chamber award (Yippee). But if you try to really get new things going for local business the only way it has a chance depends on how he can take all the credit for "the product"!

Good riddance! But we still have 14 months to have to suffer through with the arrogant jerk.
Right him a check now and send him back to where ever he came from.

Funniest thing I've ever read relating to PA. Thank you. That really sums up the mentality here, in the private and public sectors, in a nutshell.

Resigning in 2016? Accelerate that by 14-15 months and we might have something worth celebrating.

Russ should have moved on a few years ago. Being a Chamber Director is hardly a productive career opportunity. But at least he's proven it pays well!

Veenema leaving would be excellent. But, if you read the PDN quotes closely, it sounds like a bait and switch move on the "NEW", and even Great(er) Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce. Don't be surprised when he stays on at an even higher salary!
PA, same o, same o.

Does the chamber ever advertise that it is cheaper to party here, it is pretty expensive to party there and they love to drink.

"Russ has done a good job, you loser bloggers could only wish you could have done better."

Of course, this comment is intended as bait, trying to get a rise out of someone.

I've got a few minutes to waste, and will point out the obvious. If Russ Veenema was any good at the job he is being paid so much for, how come the town is in such troubles?

If it were not for all the "grant scams" the city has pulled off, there would be no economy in Port Angeles.
If it were not for the majority of the jobs being in some governmental entity, there would no town.

Veenema himself has been living off tax money.

So, representing the "private sector", how come things are so bad? How long have the storefronts' been empty?

You would think with the almost guaranteed cash flow coming into town from all those government jobs, that the town would be booming. That with that cash flow, business folks would figure out how to get their piece of it.

But, that is not what happens. People in Port Angeles do their shopping anywhere but here. Why?

Because Russ Veenema has done such a great job over the last ?? years.
