It's nice to see them getting along.

You will have to excuse my lack of enthusiasm. These are para-military forces from the worlds' militarily dominant countries, showing anyone caring enough to look that they can work together to control pretty much everything.

We already knew that.

The very sad reality is that President/General Eisenhower warned us all about this very "military/industrial complex" that now controls so much of the international world we now experience. Think this is some nut-case rhetoric? Look at the billions the Iraquis are spending to buy US weapons from US weapon manufacturers. http://www.usatoday.com/news/military/2008-08-18-iraqtanks_N.htm Then Google Eisenhowers' famous farewell warning/speech.

As you probably already know, the US is the largest weapons merchant in the world. We depend upon conflicts and wars to show off the abilities of our latest weapon systems to potential "clients", nation states throughout the world.

Eisenhower told us that our nation would become an arms manufacturing/promoting entity, and that the nations' political policies would be dictated by that industry, over 50 years ago.

Now we have well publicized "training exercises" to show off the prowess of these same military machines, providing "security".

They like good press.

Good post Anonymous.

Whether people see it as a good or bad thing- there has been a new pattern of military activity in the Port Angeles area in recent months. I have collected several news articles on the subject and placed them on one page which can be viewed by clicking my name above.

Anonymous makes good points, but I would still rather see them all getting along instead of us fighting each other.

I'd like to see more of our military in this area...perhaps a small naval port. What would really be nice is to see an Air National Guard contingent here at Fairchild Airport. Seeing F-15s and/or F-16s taking off and landing would suit me just fine!

"Seeing F-15s and/or F-16s taking off and landing would suit me just fine!"

Yes, and all the kids should be in army garb while at school, marching in formation with rifles during recess, right? Maybe a mandatory book they must read and carry with them at all times with quotes from the Constitution, too?

As the worlds' largest arms dealer, why pretend that US is interested in "peace"? The US should be up front, admit its' economy relies upon war, that it NEEDS countries to be in conflict, and structure its' communities accordingly.

"The private sector will ALWAYS do a better job than a bunch of faceless government bureaucrats. Let's just say No to Socialism and privatize all fire departments NOW."

Why stop at those socialist bastions, the local fire dept? The US is positively INFECTED with those Commie-Socialists organizations. Privatize the Police Depts. The Sheriffs Depts. The Courts. The Jails. All schools. Libraries. Parks and Rec.

Why should *I* have to pay for the Planning Dept? Let the market determine what should be built anywhere. Private property rights RULE! If I want to build a porno shop next door to a school, I should have the right to do so! I don't want any damned Socialist telling me what I can and cannot do with my property.

The Monster we created:

"CIA worked with Pakistan to create Taliban"

LONDON: The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) worked in tandem with Pakistan to create the "monster" that is today Afghanistan's ruling Taliban, a leading US expert on South Asia said here.

"I warned them that we were creating a monster," Selig Harrison from the Woodrow Wilson International Centre for Scholars said at the conference here last week on "Terrorism and Regional Security: Managing the Challenges in Asia."

Harrison said: "The CIA made a historic mistake in encouraging Islamic groups from all over the world to come to Afghanistan." The US provided $3 billion for building up these Islamic groups, and it accepted Pakistan's demand that they should decide how this money should be spent, Harrison said.

Harrison, who spoke before the Taliban assault on the Buddha statues was launched, told the gathering of security experts that he had meetings with CIA leaders at the time when Islamic forces were being strengthened in Afghanistan. "They told me these people were fanatical, and the more fierce they were the more fiercely they would fight the Soviets," he said. "I warned them that we were creating a monster."

Harrison, who has written five books on Asian affairs and US relations with Asia, has had extensive contact with the CIA and political leaders in South Asia. Harrison was a senior associate of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace between 1974 and 1996."

Great.
