No Deal on Public Parking at Gottschalks Building
One of the upsides of the upcoming First Street construction project was that public parking would "probably" be available at the former Gottschalks parking lot.
Not so fast.
The owners of the building, K.O. Erickson Trust, have not disallowed public parking at their lot. But there hasn't been a deal to make the parking lot officially open to the public. The owners want to charge $35 per parking space per month, and the city can't pay that amount.
The owners claim it's not about the money; they're just reluctant to have their parking lot tied up while they seek a new tenant for the building.

Yeah, I can see how charging $35 per space, for parking, will mitigate the building owners' concerns.
Once again, line my pockets, or else.
Typical - but so sad. The City fails to plan ahead to mitigate for obviously foreseeable adverse impacts to downtown businesses.
Typical...PA is such joke!
The brainiacs at city hall strike again!
"Pat Hyden, trust secretary and treasurer, said the trust was seeking payment on the advice of its real estate agents."
And who are those real estate agents? Why none other than Jerry Nichols, and Dan Gase of Coldwell Banker.
fom the feb 1st article:
"The nonprofit Erickson Trust formed the interim group in January 2010... The group includes Nichols and Dan Gase of Coldwell Banker, Kaj Ahlburg, Ted Simpson, Bill Hermann, and Roy and Mary Gotham.
"We are only involved in it because were are civic people, if you will," said Coldwell Banker Uptown Realty co-owner Jerry Nichols, a member of the group.
indeed...
The usual suspects!

..........
And same with the other related story, where those folks are appealing the permits. The citys' response? Let's change the laws AFTER they file the appeal, and make it retroactive?! Hunh?
And, who thinks doing that won't piss 'em off enough to file a suit challenging THAT great idea? More delays?
Yeah, typical, and so sad.
too bad Tar and Feathering went out of style....
Once agan the power of the unelected STAFF is felt. The votes for this will go 6-1 - Can you guess who the Gang of Six will be?
