Contract Awarded for Lincoln Park Redevelopment
Port of Port Angeles commissioners have selected Hough, Beck and Baird Inc. of Seattle to develop a master plan for redeveloping Lincoln Park. The plan includes cutting down the fir trees in Lincoln Park, probably within the next two to three years.
The contract will cost $145,513. The FAA, which requires that the trees be cut down, has awarded the Port a grant of $138,237. The Port will pay the remaining $7,276.

Glad to see how the government is cutting back on wasteful spending to address the budget deficits.
why are we cutting down the trees--it's not like the FAA really gives a fat crap about it. What do we have 3 flights a day in/out. And, little dink commuter flights at that? I think this is just another money grab (free money!!) for the port. Jerks, not like they're doing squat for the economy around here.

Obviously, you're not paying attention. Randall C Page tells us everything is wonderful in Port Angeles. Get with the program. Drink the Kool-Aid, and you too will see everything is great in Port Angeles!
Nay sayers!
The way I see it, by 2050 the park won't be there any longer, the powerful will have gained control of it somehow and the airport will be extended into it. They insist on paving over paradise and putting up parking lots.
Tree lovers will be forced to move to more remote areas.
Google the airport and look at the aeral view. Keep in mind planes are going to want to takeoff/land into the wind. Look at the relationship to the park and the runway. Over time the trees have simply grown into the flight path. You'll see if you live long enough, stuff like this happens.
I'm not a pilot or FAA offical so I don't know the issues and paramters of the airport's need to clear these trees for flight safety. But, since the airport is an important part of the economic future in P.A. it is reasonable to get this all in order.
Also, since there is always a possibility of some natural disaster like a tsunami, it only makes sense to be prepared to have heavy planes bring in relief supplies and take the injured out safely.
It's no wonder that many of us spike our kool-aid.
Us survivalists don't sweat the need for aid coming to us.
I have followed this for a couple of years now and I see both sides of the issue.
1. It is true that the FAA is putting pressure on the Port to remove the trees because they are growing into the flight path of incoming aircraft. The Port has to keep the airport open and they also have to have certification to do this.
2. It is also true that the issue of cutting down trees because of commerce is bugging a larger segment of our community. How do you satisfy both? I would recommend that for every tree you cut down...you replace it with three new trees...perhaps somewhere else that won't impede progress. I feel that once those trees are gone it will look barren and open. That is one of the attractive things about that park.....the trees.
3. My other issue is this: What about people using the play fields during the day? During baseball games there are many children and parents using this area. This is directly in the path of aircraft. What a horrific thing if a plane crashed down in the middle of this. many lives could be lost. I can't imagine what this would do to this community. Is it cheaper to move the play fields or the airport? Certainly a dilemma....no?
BRUSCO'S has great looking green peppers, two for a buck. I'm making stuffed green peppers, yum, yum.
People are talking like these trees have been there since the dawn of time. It is all second growth that was reprod when this airport came into full swing.they need to be cut down and will be cut down. If you need to walk in the woods drive 15 minutes in any direction,Plenty of taxpayer parks around. What the city needs to do is donate the money from trees to the congressional black caucus and a gay rights charity. then anyone in apposittion will be a racist homophobe.

Oh, well, stupid planning back then, and no improvement in it now.
My place is on the east side right under the most used flight path to the airport, being as I can't win the lotto maybe I'll get lucky and one will slam into it while I'm away and I can sue the estate for enough money for remote acreage.
shut up and pay your taxes.
shut up and pay your taxes.
Must not be talking to me, I pay mine in full as soon as I get the bill.
Tom should go to the races this weekend and tell us what he thought of them.
It just angers me (and everyone else who went to the City Council meetings to protest this) that we were told, Oh, don't worry, it's several years away. Then of course we realize (duh) that it was already too late. I'm just sick of being lied to and treated like whiny little kids if we try to speak up.

Whos' country did you think this was, anyways? As the other poster said " Shut up, and just pay your taxes". That is all the government sees you as: Source of dollars.
They'll tell you anything they think you will believe, to get what they want.
shut up, slave. No reason to bother fretting about it. Pay your taxes.
