Two City Council Candidates to Speak at Chamber of Commerce

For tomorrow's luncheon at the Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce, two City Council candidates will be speaking.  They are Andrew Schwab, who's running against incumbent Brad Collins (Position 1); and Noelle Fuller, running against council-appointed Mayor Dan Di Guilio (Position 5).

I think that's backwards. Brad's appointed when Larry Little stepped down after he learned his wife had cancer.

While I've been a little disappointed in Brad Collins for not standing up more, I'll still be voting for him. (No offense intended, Drew. Run again next time - and against an opponent who isn't one of the quality Council members.)

As for DiGuilio, he's been a major disappointment on the Council, and doubly so as Mayor. Most of the time it's like having Don Perry there twice. Ugh. So I'll be voting for Noelle Fuller. Yeah, maybe she'll be a disappointment - but I already KNOW DiGuilio is, so I'm more than willing to take a chance. Go, Noelle!

What a waste of space Port Angeles is! Am reading a book about the history of this town. I could not be more ashamed to be of European decent.

But, the Chamber folks just keep at it. Ignore everything but what they want to see. Money in them thar hills. Kill and destroy everything for a few fleeting dollars.

And here we are, today.

Are you proud? What do you see in your children's eyes, today?

What is your legacy?

Hell, boy, a big fat bank account, that's my legacy?

Stop being a freeloader on the system and go get a job! Plenty of work for folks that want to work.

"Plenty of work for folks that want to work."

Yes, we hear that every day. No employment problems in America. The politicians moved on to other issues years ago, and we no longer hear about "jobs", and "job creators".

If they put everyone to work prices will start going up more, I'm okay with many being unemployed and prices staying competitive, such as they are.

Shucks, even hookers are willing to give discounts during times like these.

If the unemployed all moved somewhere else, with their kids, the school system wouldn't keep bugging us for more money. I don't have an issue with that.

Wow! Genius! Gosh, why didn't anybody ever think of this before??? And hey! It just came to me...If the government would stop paying for Medicare and Medicaid, people would stop getting sick and hurt! And if we stopped paying for the military, people would stop having wars!

Zowie! Why, we can apply this simple, simple, simple formula to JUST ABOUT ANY HUMAN PROBLEM. Woohoo! All humanity's problems are SOLVED! Happy days are here again!!!

Yes. The manufacturing industries would move back to the US from China, and start hiring all those people now on the government dole.

Pearls of wisdom from Port Angeles.

A place to be proud of.

I doubt too many mfg jobs will come back to the US, until regulations are reduced, corporate taxes are reduced, and the unions are abolished.
That being said, some jobs are already coming back.

Oh, things are going to get a lot more interesting, me thinks.

And it's nonsense to think that it's important for corparate jets too be able to fly in here 'because they bring in money'.

Bullshit, they don't move their money with airplanes, and they wouldn't be here at all if it wasn't for the fact that they get lower paid workers out here.

Unionize these places and see how long they stick around.

"I doubt too many mfg jobs will come back to the US, until regulations are reduced, corporate taxes are reduced,..."

You must have seen the previous post about GE, the top US corporation, not paying ANY taxes on $15 billion in profits? Not only did it pay nothing, it managed a tax CREDIT of over $3 billion.

So, how much more "reduced" can corporate taxation get when they are paying zero??

F*CK the unions. Every single one I have been connected with simply took money from paychecks and did little to help me or those I know. They're more bureaucratic and corrupt then the d*mn government.

there may be a few corporations that take advantage of tax credits that create jobs, research new energy sources, provide for the underprivileged, etc. but by enlarge, the $5 billion they could have paid is a drop in the bucket compared to what 99% of the small businesses and corporations pay. The US has one of the largest corporate taxes on the planet 39.8% and it is a large part of why jobs go overseas.

So, you're saying it is not the huge multinational corporations that are the "problem", but "small business"??? That if it were not for the "39.8%" you think small businesses and (presumably) small corporations pay in taxes, America would be the manufacturing center of the world?

So, what do you consider "small"? Are you suggesting that if the corporate taxes were reduced even further (below zero!), Swains would go into manufacturing?

And, what does the $5 billion you state represent? Certainly not what even ONE major US corporation is NOT paying.

You heard of that town in Switzerland where over 30,000 US corporations have their profits parked, tax free?

"some people are stupid"

When ya read that NYTimes article about GE not paying any taxes, you see that the meat of the story is about how they spend tens of millions to lobby for "tax breaks" and "reduced regulations".

Tens of millions? Ya wonder why these phrases become the campaign rhetoric of the Republicans?

The best money can buy...
