Clash Between Sprint Boat Racers and Army Corps of Engineers
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says there is a wetlands violation on property which includes the sprint boat race course. Sprint boat race organizers Kellie and Dan Morrison will be meeting with the Army Corps of Engineers this Tuesday to discuss what the Corps describes as "a knowing and willful violation."

"Wicked" a cool sounding word, albeit a bit "80's", but not a very nice definition - in any context. Just a "cool" (and very white) word from the 80s! Just one more step closer, for the sake of $$$, to the constant Roman Circus that awaits this generation as we have our midlife crisis....bleeeeech.
So, in ten years will companies be vying for the names "Putrid"? "Filthy"?
Just found this looking at PA's Wikipedia article:

Hey - shouldn't it be okay to break federal laws if the lawbreakers tell us that it's for the sake of economic development? Didn't the feds get the memo about how things are done in Port Angeles?
I'd like nothing better than if the big, bad government shut down those land-raping, rule-breaking sprint boat fools. I would be very, very happy to know that my tax dollars were, in some way, going towards protecting the land and punishing those who can't play by the rules.
How telling:
"Dan Morrison said Friday he intends to fix the problem.
“Mitigation is probably the way we want to go and just deal with that,” he said.
The toe of the track’s slope “in a couple of places encroached on the wetland,” he said.
“It appears off the survey we did that there’s a few spots that are crossing the line, yes, and we will have to deal with that,” Morrison said."
And:
" No fines were issued, and a temporary permit has been issued for this year’s event, Morrison said, criticizing the Coalition and CELP.
“The reality is, they opened the can up; these guys are the ones who opened the lid on the can,” he said.
“If the Dry Creek Coalition hadn’t gotten the ball rolling, we wouldn’t be here now,” he added."
Clearly, the Dry Creek people and others are the problem, not Morrison for admittedly breaking the rules.
And, pedictably, the Chamber jumps right in to help fan the flames, and deride local residents who were concerned about the issues.
But, "let's all work together". Sure.
I hear that they are fun but I'm too cheap to go to them.
The City could have helped to prevent the promoters' current predicament by pointing out and halting potential violations of the law. Just because local officials might look the other way doesn't mean that federal officials will automatically do so.
You think I can get them to look the other way while I rob a bank, or something??
Tonight, one of the Seattle TV weather guys said it would be GLOOMY in Port Angeles tomorrow. No, it won't be gloomy. Maybe half the day in Forks, but not here, at least not a few blocks away from the water. Pisses me off. Also pisses me off that it's always warmer here, in most of PA, than the TV guys say it is. Same with Sequim...A conspiracy to keep tourists away from GLOOMTOWN!!!
"A conspiracy to keep tourists away from GLOOMTOWN!!!"
A conspiracy, or how Port Angeleas is seen by others?
I talked with a guy visiting Port Angeles the other day, and his comment? "What a sad little town. Full of derelicts, bars and junk shops".
Now, any of you can argue with the guy, but that was what he saw, those were his impressions, and that is what he is telling anyone who brings up Port Angeles.
"Tonight, one of the Seattle TV weather guys said it would be GLOOMY in Port Angeles tomorrow. No, it won't be gloomy. Maybe half the day in Forks, but not here, at least not a few blocks away from the water."
So, how did that weather forecaster dude do? Was it warm and sunny in Port Angeles today?
No, it was cold and GLOOMMMYY.
A sixteen year old Chinese girl could out run you guys in the water. And probably read better English, too.
This is fine. In the neighboring wetland, or very, very, near it, I have plans for three day weekend, 100 DJ Raves, mostly guys from Los Angeles and New York. Starting in mid-Sept., for six weekends in a row.
Alleged major meth distribution op going on in the middle of town, on a busy residential street. Only reason it's deemed a priority is because it was a "substantial" pain in the ass for the neighbors.
Body armor found, guns, LOTS of meth (even though the paper said it was good quality, I think they meant quantity). And they post $500 cash on a $5,000 bond and are out.
So if there are any enterprising tweakers out there, just don't make TOO much trouble, don't put up shop in the middle of town, and you have a good opportunity here for a new biz! And you can make a ton of money, tax free, and create more addicts and criminals, which only means more customers!
60 grams (2 ounces) is "substantial"? I guess these guys don't watch Breaking Bad or they're just gunning for more paramilitary funding and equipment. Do we still have that tank sitting around in storage somewhere?
Maybe the PABA can get these guys to tell their membership how to run a business in Port Angeles!
So - the PDN story said that the promoters were to be meeting with the Corps brass last Tuesday ti discuss penalties, etc. What was the outcome? Another slap on the wrist, or something more substantial (and deserved)?
Knowing the area, they were probably given more land to convert into some destructive use, sprinkled with grant money.
