Possible Merging of Port Angeles Marine Centers

The Art Feiro Marine Life Center on City Pier, and the Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary on the second floor of the Landing Mall, might merge their facilities.  Both of the present locations are small and cramped, and the two groups might relocate to a new facility that could be built near the waterfront.

They should make it a 3-Way with the Dairy Queen!

Why not? It is only taxpayers' money they are spending, anyways.

This sounds like a much better use of money than a multi-million dollar sidewalk.

Agreed, that merging the two marine-oriented institutions into one facility would be a better use of money than the "esplanade" project. Raising the profile of the city's marine resources and proximity to the world-class marine sanctuary would enhance the downtown and region's economic base. People are drawn to this area because of its unique natural resources --- including Olympic National Park and vast undeveloped shorelines along the Strait and outer coast. Port Angeles should be proud that the Marine Sanctuary headquarters are in town, and do what it can to make sure that visitors stop over in Port Angeles on their way to these treasures, instead of just passing through.

I'd like to see a local voters' initiative in which we stop all spending like this until 1. Crime rate goes down 2. Test scores go up/birth rate goes DOWN and 3. tax base starts GROWING again.

If we did that, local officials might actually FOCUS on those three things.

As far as attracting people to the area using our "nature" as a carrot, please. Four things do that. 1. WA Ferries 2. Hood Canal Bridge 3. Hwy 101 4. THE park. None of those things are going away and we don't need to throw money at those either - unless of course it's state or fed monies. All organizations want to grow, bless their hearts, but we should focus our $$ on what we need and want, not what a handfull of people say we need and want. There is a HUGE gap there, I think.

I had no idea there was a Marine Sanctuary on the second floor of the Landing Mall, when I want to enjoy life in the sea I go to the beaches.

OMG, it just came to me. After they remove the heavy stuff at the PenPly site, us able bodied people of Port Angeles could just line up, treat the site like it's a football field, create a grid and assign people to a certain part, arm them with shovels (I can bring an extra one), garbage bags (be sure to wear gloves), and clean the place up, in like, what, an hour?

So only a few days till the election. I'd expect the local tea party (business owners who went into politics) to announce a few more initiatives or expensive studies to prop up their own antiquated and boring businesses in the next few days just to piss off and confuse the low information voters and reinforce their negative views of government. It's in their blood to get people to vote against their own interests.

"...assign people to a certain part, arm them with shovels (I can bring an extra one), garbage bags (be sure to wear gloves), and clean the place up, in like, what, an hour?"

So, who assumes the liability? Two years from now, some shmoo steps in a puddle of toxic wastes bubbling up like Texas Tea, and sues ?? because you went out there, "cleaned it up", and said everything is oaky-doaky.

Are you going to sign all the legal papers, and be responsible for future actions?

You see, this is why these "clean up" project take so long. Liability. Every one wants to be sure their butts are covered.

Pretty simple, really. We round up every republican real estate gangster responsible for Haborworks, Gateway ,and the K-Ply scam, and have them work off the money they stole cleaning up the K-Ply site @ 2.00 an hour. We don’t have to worry about Haz-Mat or liability, because the same slimy coating that shields them from logic and reason will also protect them from PCBs and radioactivity.

Given that we all pay state and federal taxes, I'd rather we not do that either.

If you think federal grants, etc are "free money" I have a bridge to sell you in Ketchikan.

Oh, I'm not worried about the republican real estate gangsters of Port Angeles' health. I'm thinking about the future buyers, or anybody else that may find some reason to sue.

We pay, and they play.

To the young long dark haired woman with similars in tow, in the older grey or green or lt brown taurus or merc last night, at 10:30, that turned left onto front from lincoln and hurridly parked at the bar there, and almost hit me!

Stop drinking and driving! And then learn how to read, and learn the traffic laws. And while you are out recklessly endangering others, wipe that smile off your face.

Just wait until "Native artifacts/remains" are found on the K-Ply site.
