Maurices Leaving Downtown

Maurices will be leaving its longtime downtown location and moving to the space formerly occupied by the Fashion Bug, near the Eastside Safeway.  July 13th will be the last business day for Maurices in their downtown location.  Maurices store manager Corene Wickland said:

“We just know that the people of Port Angeles deserve to have a bigger, newer store.”

The decision to relocate was made at Maurices corporate headquarters in Duluth, MN.

Officials at the Duluth, Minn.-based Maurices Inc. believe downtown primarily serves tourists, according to Wickland.

I don't think Downtown primarily serves tourists, but I can see why Acena would think so. Acena also knows the numbers that Fashion Bug had in that storefront because they bought them (and the other Charming Shoppes) out. The Maurice's storefront is just too small to serve this community.

"It's another GREAT day in Port Angeles," shouted Mayor Cherie Kidd, as she stood in the rain in downtown Port Angeles, frantically trying to get passing cars to stop and listen to her message. "IT'S ANOTHER GREAT DAY IN PORT ANGELES!"

With the rain washing down her face, and her raccoon-like eyeliner running badly, it was hard to tell if Kidd was crying or not. But one passerby, Barb Frederick, said she thought "it was just another sign of how friendly folks are in Port Angeles."

Frederick also mentioned that it "is a great day in Port Angeles - especially if you're looking for vacant retail space!"

Maurice's corporate HQ folks probably figured that people coming downtown to enjoy the "waterfront promenade" and multi-million dollar man-made beaches will not want to be burdened with carrying around sacks of newly purchased merchandise.
So - is the old Fashion Bug store located inside city limits, or will the city be losing Maurice's sales tax revenue, too?

Maurices will be outside the city limits, and away from the tourist traps downtown, hehehe.

But never fear, they are trying to get us in the city also, fucking power grabbers and empire builders is what they are.

Cherie, so much wasted talent.

I need someone to explain to me why city electricity costs more than our PUD electricity does.

Really? With all the scams that get run within/through the City? The money that gets paid to that same group of "special people" has to come from somewhere!

Speaking of scams, and the questionable way the City does things, did you read the clip about the Laurdisen bridge replacement? And rejection of the consultants suggestions for round-abouts?

No mention of the real reasons behind these actions: the City's goal of turning Race Street and Laurdisen into the Highway 101 truck route. This has long been pursued by certain folks, despite community objections.

But, like other controversial projects, the City learned it can get what it wants by building in pieces of the Big Picture, one little step at a time, until they can say "We have already invested so much in this approach, that doing anything else just doesn't make sense."

Because Glenn Cutler's ego costs so fucking much to maintain, the rates have to go up, up, up to pay for all his bloated projects. Pretty simple, really.

No more Kitsap Sun online, darn, $11 a month...yikes. NOT a good biz decision, I'm guessing. Last gasp/grab for cash? Wanted to read the comments about Windermere leaving downtown Bremerton because it's too seedy. That's awfully rich. That's like the warden to a prison wanting to work from home, too many prisoners distract him.

Ah, seven possible charges, including I believe four felonies. No, nothing wrong at Clallam County, right Jim?

8:13 - Oh, come on. She was just trying to help someone! Just ask any realtor to explain it to you. You must be a tree hugger. Or a gardener. You really should contract out that yard, you are so wasteful. A couple loads of gravel, some cement paths, get you some new gutters, maybe paint your house too, some nice plants, rip out that irrigation system for you, $30,000 later, you'd have a nice rain garden.

All we need is for the PDN to print an article. You know how you see news reports every now and then about a small town that really transforms itself, diversifies, or shifts towards tourism? Well, they should write an article about how being inhospitable to business, and tourists has really worked for Port Angeles! If they would just explain it to us, I know I'd feel better! Like the sediment issue. Makes total sense that we should keep much of the Elwha and gateway to parts of the park closed, this summer, because of that. After all , we better not mess up. Not like we have much potable water around here, with all those animals, hippies, and migrant farm workers shitting and peeing in the creeks and rivers. Would be fascinating to know what we will get all "Port Angeles" about in the summer of 2014? It's very exciting!

Take a clue from Paula Dean and get a FUCKING HOBBY!

You are welcome.

I've never lived in a town this corrupt before, it seems like those that are supposed be part of us and serving us are always pulling shady shit.

Oh, there is a priceless exchange at the pdn regarding male body parts and the double standard. In a "nut" shell, a lady said if SRM had a penis, no one would give a fuck what she did. A guy says back to her, sounds like YOU have a penis, let her borrow yours. She chimes back, ha ha, no, but bet I could find her one...a fat white guy smoking a cigar, wearing golf duds....too funny. Red herring? We will never actually know! We'd have to know all the other sweetheart deals people get around here, and compare the circumstances, and we never will know. In the comments, Zac was right, pay her off, let her leave. Sucks. Probably.

Note that the comments on Sheila's article have been taken down by the PDN. She's one of the "special ones" the paper will protect in this way. Other people get dragged through the mud, have false cahrges raised against them, etc. and the PDN just leaves the comments up forever. Watch the coverage on this "evolve" to minimize harm to Roark Miller, so her life as a member of the corrupt elite of Clallam County isn't derailed.

I was at a meeting last week, and talking with her and one of our state reps. She looked and sounded very agitated, nervous and full of anxiety. I guess that is to be expected, when you're making the front page that way.

Billy sez: "I've never lived in a town this corrupt before, it seems like those that are supposed be part of us and serving us are always pulling shady shit."

Me neither. Obviously a lot of other people are disgusted with the place, too. Why bother to run for city council here?
