Homelessness Down in Clallam County by 62.4%

Over the past seven years, homelessness in Clallam County has decreased by 62.4%.  And the number of people living on the streets is down 81%.  The executive director of Serenity House said:

“Probably the most amazing thing that occurred this year was this sharp reduction in the number of people who are literally homeless in the county.  From the benchmark year of 2006, street homelessness, literal homelessness — people in cars, camps, not in shelters — has de-creased by 81 percent in the county.  We’re also seeing some really sharp declines in the number of people using emergency shelter.”

Hmmm. Why does this sound fishy? The period of time they cover is the same time of one of the most serious economic melt-downs in US history, with homes being foreclosed by the thousands daily.

I saw all kinds of news stories about how kids living under bridges with their families were being picked up by school buses to continue with classes. Or living in cars.

No doubt things have been done. But the time bracket is just too weird. Maybe Clallam County was SOO depressed BEFORE the recession/housing collapse, that the collapse made no impacts on Clallam?

Yes, these amazing results happened during a very difficult economic time in our community. This incredible improvement did NOT happen of it's own accord, hundreds of thousands of dollars and massive amounts of time, energy and education have been spent by the Clallam County Homelessness Task Force to acieve these results. Congratulations are in order, not sarcasim.

Did the sheriff run them out of town?

Then there's folks like me, don't consider themselves homeless even when others see them that way. Hell, I lived in a pickup camper the first few years I was here.

Oh, you mean the article on Dale's nonsensical "discrimination" suit?

Let's see, Dale has do weekly task plans while everyone else does monthly task plans. Dale is not allowed to attend some conference in Montana.

Bias! Discrimination! Racism!

Well, clearly. At least in Dale's feverish mind. The same feverish mind that alleges her "campaign" was sunk by M.R. and the local Dems.

So, Dale, how many "discrimination" law suits did you file when you and Max lived in Olympia? More than six? Less than a dozen?

And what is the exchange rate between the U.S. dollar and the Bhutanese whatsit? Gosh, you and Max will be stylin' like The Donald in Bhutan after you get your little cash settlement from the county!

I remember the fanrare surrounding the log removal on the beach. Perhaps that helped. I know I feted. I saw someone snuggled against it once, back in the day. The image of the two proud officers standing there, the PND photo, the day it was moved, is burned in my eyeballs. Must be for some reason.

3:15 - Heads up, watch the Daily Show tonight. Supposed to be a good one - a special "sarcasm free" espisode. It's the new thing, they say, being "nice".

I'd like to think we didn't drop the ball in the recession, but I don't buy it. We probably spent less money counting them, they ran away because it was cold, less services, parents kicked them out, cops ran out the non-locals, the several homeless cops moved, hope not, they were sort of nice. Especially "Steve". Used to let me play with the lights. Maybe that last judge was homeless, who knows. Heard he was, and that he fancied warm Mountain Dew and ate spam all the time. Seems like a sketchy town to me, nothing to brag about. Worst than it's ever been.

9:56 - Gee, thanks for clearing that up, LOL. Coffee good?

Maybe higher heroin use leads to less homelessness? If you are happier, seems like things might fall into place, get a job, house, get married, find others with similar interests, network, just go for it? Winters in a warmer climate to visit HQ? I know I'm happier when I relax.

Oh, I know. It's the flouride!! Didn't that start around seven years ago? All those happy smiles! Everyone knows, happy smiles, happy teeth = happiness! Dang, think about it! It's now possible, to do hard drugs, AND keep that great smile!!!

There's less homelessness in Port Angeles because we're SO FREAKING HAPPY!!!!!

M.R. is the spectral entity that sabotaged the Most Qualified Candidate's campaign.

Max and the MQC both check under the bed, in the broom closet and other places within their short-sale home to make sure that M.R. isn't lurking about.

The only place Max and the MQC will be safe from the evil influences of M.R. is Bhutan.

Max and the MQC are just waiting for that cash settlement from the county and their nightmare will be over.

It is good that some people in the community care enough about their fellow human beings to take steps to prevent or address homelessness. If the Homelessness Task Force was able to accomplish positive results, they should indeed be congratulated and thanked.
From what I know of Dale Holiday, she, too is a caring person and did not come to Port Angeles with intentions to exploit others. She was a very qualified candidate for County Commissioner, and received many votes despite the circumstances of the five-way primary race. I trust that she would not have made the complaint to the EOC and the EOC would not have accepted it were without some merit. It takes courage to speak out against mistreatment and injustice, and if some county officials are exhibiting bias or discrimination in their treatment of employees, then Dale is doing a service to others, too, by bringing her complaint forward.

Jim Jones was a contributor to Republican Number Two's "campaign" and he is a supporter of Peter Ripley.

If you don't think there is political bias against Dale then you are sadly uninformed.

See "Setting It Straight" in the PDN today, page A2. The PDN never contacted Dale Holiday before running a story all about her. It was a clear case of bias on the part of the PDN, who aren't about to challenge the status quo here. And, at the County, the status quo is rotten.

This is, after all, the County that was sued successfully just LAST YEAR by several employees who had been discriminated against and fired because of their age and sex.

This is, after all, the County whose head of DCD is being investigated for illegal and/or unethical behavior.

This is, after all, the County that is currently experiencing chaos in their public health department, with yet another abusive manager causing employees to fear for their jobs, fear for their personal safety, and many to simply quit.

This is, after all, the County that installed someone with no experience in HR - none, zero - as the head of their HR department.

And on and on and on. Those who want to somehow make this all about Dr. Dale Holiday are very much missing the point - or trying to mislead people away from the point.

The point is...Clallam County has all sorts of problems. And those who stand up and say "Enough!" should be supported and celebrated, not vilified. It's just too bad that the PDN and this blog play right into the worst elements in this community, and facilitate misinformation, bad behavior, and yes, fairly overt racism.

Jim Jones is an oily, sleazy, awful, awful excuse for a human being. He will do whatever it takes to cover his own ass, no matter who it hurts or how much it costs (the taxpayers). He has no soul and should not be trusted under any circumstances.

It is sad, really, how many posts from "Anonymous" are so full of hateful name calling, baseless accusations, sarcasim and deliberate misinformation. It must be horrible to have to live with yourself 24 hours a day. It really ruins what could have been a decent way to trade ideas and hear someone else's perspective on local events. Not at all what Tom had imagined, I suspect.

If you want to talk about setting a bad tone here, if you want to talk about those who set the stage for name calling and all that sort of thing, then go talk to the creeps and crooks who run this county, and who have run it for decades. These crooked leaders absolutely set the tone for a county mired in muck and stuck in the past, with nothing left to do but bitch and moan about just how screwed up it is here. Go talk to Jim Jones and his merry crew of crooks and tell THEM to knock it off and let Clallam county enter the late 20th century, and then maybe the rest of us who live here will behave more civilly.

"The PDN never contacted Dale Holiday before running a story all about her."

Hi Max! Good to see you're still posting here.

Um, I know you like to parse words, but I don't think that Dale's claim of never having received emails from from the PDN is the same thing as the PDN never having sent email to Dale. Take a moment and think about that.

Obviously the PDN sent two emails to an account she chooses not to acknowledge.

But you might as well sue the PDN. You're suing everyone else, which is what you and Dale did in Olympia before you both left there.

Have a nice day! :)

"You're suing everyone else, which is what you and Dale did in Olympia before you both left there."

I heard that Max and Dale not only kidnapped the Lindbergh baby, but also killed Rasputin. Now that Leonardo DiCaprio is making a movie about Rasputin, the whole truth will come out - unless Max and Dale sue him, too.

Mind you, without any proof, my claim is as serious and real as yours. What seems most likely is that you're just attempting to smear people you don't like with baseless accusations - as you've done so many times before, troll. Jealousy makes people do strange, sad things.

Do a quick Google search for "Dale and Max v. EVERYONE." It was a lawsuit filed in Thurston County. Really! And the Jerky Boys were their lawyers. Really! No one would make stuff like this up. Really!

IT'S TRUE!!!
