It is so misleading to keep hearing that the DNR is responsible for closing these mills, because there just isn't enough wood. B.S. Look at all the "private" wood leaving on ships to China! There is plenty of wood, the mills just can't afford to pay the same prices that the "market" charges for it. Mr. Johnson (and his wife) are well known conservatives, calling for smaller government, that acts like private business, but cut back on their "taxpayer subsidized, low cost wood" from the DNR, and make them compete with the rest of the world for logs, and they cry foul. Rather than all the Hypocrisy, why not just tell the truth? We can no longer compete in the wood processing business, without large government subsidies.

All good, and getting better!

Noticed Peter Ripley's comment in the PDN. What a chump!

"Bad economic times"? The Feds just cut their multi-trillion dollar bail out of the US economy, because it is doing so well (according to them). The stock market is near record highs. Price of oil is cheap.

It isn't that the economy is bad, it is that Port Angeles keeps making stupid and bad decisions.

As with the public works projects like Cutler's Tank o Crap. With %33 of residents not able to pay their utility bills, how does it make any sense to commit taxpayers to huge projects (that could have been done cheaper)?

Even small scaled communities can have viable economies, if they don't try to live beyond their means.

I didn't even know that Green Creek Wood Products existed. But nevermind that, after two years of fucking officials fucking with them and them having to spend a lot of extra money they didn't have Priscilla gets to open her new cafe on Monday.

Jim and Priscilla are just good hard working county folks like many of us, I wish them the best and hope they at least make enough money to get their losses back.

Stick a fork in Kenmore Air, they're done here too.

There must have been 1000 people downtown trick-or-treating, pretty incredible. Too bad no one thought to sweep up all the wet leaves off the sidewalk before it started, or fix the drainage on the expensive brick sidewalks so there weren't huge puddles.

LOL! Priorities, right? When was the last time you saw a 1,000 people show up at a city council meeting, or ANY event that concerned their community's future?

And, it ain't going to happen, either.

I've been to some city council meetings even though I live out of the city limits. They are a joke, or is that yoke?

Well maybe if they gave out free candy at a council meeting, more people would come!

Or maybe if there was the slightest possibility that showing up at a council meeting would make some sort of difference...
