Port Angeles Residents Might Have Impact on Future Cable Service
Two focus groups will meet on February 24th and 25th to provide information on the cable renewal process. These meetings will allow public feedback on future services.
The meetings will be conducted by a telecommunications consulting firm from Sacramento. Gregg King, Port Angeles' Power Resource Manager, said the city needs to get a better idea of what local residents want from local cable service.
The February 24th meeting will be at the Vern Burton Community Center conference room, with two sessions available: 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. The February 25th meeting will be at the Port Angeles Skills Center: 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Why should the city care? Let everyone that wants to put their services out there and see who makes it.
Fucking cities want to control everything anymore.
Maybe we can get community TV back. You know, where City Council, Port of Port Angeles, EDC and other community meetings get broadcast so those of us that can't make it to meetings can see what is being discussed, and by whom.
This IS the "information age". How about THAT "reality TV"?
Good idea on broadcasting City Council meetings. It's low-budget to do so nowadays. The grumps will squeal, but they're frickin' dinosaurs on their way out, thankfully.
Would be great to transition to internet as a public utility. Many communities around the world (like Seattle) are doing this. Cheaper, better, faster, and a boon to any local economy -- a win-win for everyone. (Except of course the greedy, small-minded, ideological bastards among us.) As cable-cutting grows and the cable TV paradigm fades away, who needs Comcast, WAVE, or Dish and all the other fucking corporations who control everything now? (It would cut down on the junk mail ads that fill my mailbox too.)
This is such total and utter horseshit, not to paraphrase nearly everything that drops out of BBC's mouth, however, in this case it is true.
Another consultant asking us what we want to do, once the horse is out of the barn (or whore is out of the bar...might as well cater to BBC).
The CITY gave a mo-fo of a deal to the wife of a bully at city hall. Gave him the fiber optic exclusive use deal (to create CPI which managed and controlled all high speed data lines that were laid in PA by the Feds). CPI just sold to WAVE, the only cable carrier out here.
NOW they want to find out what we want?
WE DON'T WANT WAVE. How's that? Wave sucks. Wave lies. Wave raises rates so high, so fast, it's like dealing with the MOB on a gambling debt or shylock loan.
Why is the city wasting money on the consultants AND asking us what we want? It's all theater. They didn't care what we wanted when the queen of city hall was doling out favors to her hubby. Now that she's about to retire...oh la-de-dah.
My Wave cable only goes to my computer and has been a reliable service for years but I would try any service that would give me a better price.
If you don't buy a lottery ticket, one thing is for sure. YOU aren't going to be the winner.
If you don't participate in local government, your views aren't going to be considered.
If you don't ask that local government be broadcast live, and archived for access by the public, it isn't going to happen.
If you don't make an effort, odds are pretty high nothing is going to happen.
WAVE does SUCK
Sure sure. the thing is, chances are if you try anything in this town, you'll get shut down, ignored, and paid no mind. That's just how it works here no matter how much effort one puts out.

You give up too easily. Sure, you will never get 100% agreement with anything you talk about or want to do, and I doubt you would want that. Debate is healthy. We don't know everything, and should be open to learning new things.
Sure, there are people in leadership roles with views different than my own. So what. If enough of us get off our dead asses, and show up at the meetings, it will be pretty hard for them to ignore us.
But, of course, it is easier to stay home and complain.
" If enough of us get off our dead asses, and show up at the meetings, it will be pretty hard for them to ignore us."
True enough but in my early years here I was too often shot down at meetings cuz I was out numbered, so I just gave up.

Yeah, they count on that. They figure they'll just keep at what they're doing, until you shut up and stay home.
Works, obviously.
Gotta love "democracy", right?
Now the dreamer has moved from a zip line to a tram.
Hahahaha
