Two Local Ground Transportation Companies Benefit from Kenmore Air's Pullout

Like they say, when a door closes a window opens; or something.

Dungeness Line and Rocket Transportation have both seen at least a ten percent increase in business since Kenmore's discontinuation of passenger service to Seattle from William R. Fairchild International Airport in Port Angeles because of not enough passengers.

A recent Dungeness Line passenger from the West End said “I probably would have flown there” if Kenmore still offered their passenger service, but also noted that the bus ride was cheaper and he didn't have to deal with parking after getting to Seattle.

Being as I don't fly I could care less about an airport.

There will be plenty of people coming here in the future, as things go to hell in other places and they start flocking here where it is green and wet.

This place will be bursting at the seams, but I won't be here, hahahahaha

I won't be investing in Port Angeles growing very much. It has way too much going against it.

There are thousands of communities that offer small town feel with a pretty environment, all across the country. Port Angeles' good aspects are more than offset by all the negatives.

Not just my opinion. NOAA came to that conclusion after careful and thorough study. All those developers (professionals in making money in a community) of residential, commercial, retail and industrial land uses declined to invest in Port Angeles when courted by that million dollar "let's find a developer" exercise called Harborworks.

Kenmore is still in business, and making money EVEN when it has competing air service businesses right next to it.

Get a clue, Port Angles.

Yes it looks pretty bad. CK's blog it is actually sort of interesting this week. They have decided to go with cranky after all, and are showing some humor in their defeat, at least both of the people who post there LOL. BBC you are right, if the shit really does hit the fan. But we might have 10 or 20 years until that happens. Luckily, none of us over-invested, eh? There are worse places.

I thought the quotes on CKs site about the cross spending between the School District, the City and County was very interesting. To see how the then City Manager Madsen was promoting all the jobs and growth that was expected in Port Angeles.

Yet another example of how that crew, City staff in particular, lies and deceives the public to justify their money scams.

What? Do you really think everything is just fine, now? That we are not witnessing the collapse of the very ecosystems we rely on, right now?

How long of a list of "evidence" do you want?

So, the PADA is being taken over by the so-called "Revitalize" group? The same people who just exclude you if you say anything they don't want to hear?

The same group who believe it is the needy folk walking around in Port Angeles that are the reasons their businesses aren't doing well?

But, the problem of young "yuppies" moving into a town and being selfishly concerned only about themselves in not new. These types have existed for hundreds and thousands of years, in communities around the world. They are even used in the bible as examples of what people should strive NOT to be. (And, I'm no bible-jock!)

Port Angeles has it's fair share of examples of what people should strive NOT to be.

Maybe if they'd lower their prices it would be different. It's still cheaper to drive and park than take either of these services.

OH MY ...

Shit hitting the fan, sorry, I meant WHEN THE FUCKING WORLD POPULATION PLUMMETS. Dude.... (Translation for the advanced, PA's problems are not unique, except that most of the men here wear panties that fit WAY TOO tight)

As far as Port Angeles my opinion is that it is going to go bankrupt around the time the tea baggers take Olympia. It's like being a little pregnant… You are either pregnant or you're not. Just because it has a pretty view and there is a nice national park right there, it is still the most miserable town in Washington State. And yes, just a handful of people made it that way. Yawn.

CK's blog, it is sort of interesting but it is also like where is this alternate universe? Looking at the writing styles it's sort of hard to hide that it's just one or two people. Tom really had it pegged a long time ago, if they are really real they're a bunch of fucking cowards. Or something like that.

BBC, you're going to have a great time.

And that's, okay. He's onto something though, maybe he can unite the cranky people and the happy people. He does care, and has clearly identified both groups and that is a noble start.

2:26... Oh please, like CK's blog is the only one with that problem. For awhile the only two people posting on this blog were...

- The guy who accused everyone posting of being Max Mania or some other public official.

- The guys who thought that teabaggers suck, and that everyone but him was a teabagger. Any problem in this town could be simplified down to "teabagger". Period.

- BBC

The comment thread was continuously getting derailed and it was hard to have any sort of meaningful conversation about Port Angeles. I don't know if Tom's moderating comments more now, but I admit it's better now. It took me a long time before I came back to this blog because of the Max Mania-Teabaggers people. I can't believe I'm the only one.

And, CK's blog is always interesting. Too bad this blog isn't supportive and welcoming. There needs to be more than one voice of the people.

Don't know what you're talking about. Picketing? I was talking about the PADA board of directors now has 5 people from that pathetic "Revitalize Port Angeles" group.

What's to picket? There is nobody on the sidewalks in Port Angeles most of the time.

J/K. I don't get the animosity between blogs either. They fulfill very different needs. CK's blog, at its best (and it's not always at its best, but what is?), is about connecting the web our entrenched officials have woven. Not a conspiracy exactly but there's definitely some stuff going on in this town. Tom's blog IMO is more uncensored comment section for the PDN. And with the PDN doing such a crappy job of reporting the news I'd say we need this blog, CK's blog, Port o' Call... hell, whatever gets the word out to shine a light on the crap holding this town back.

But I suppose wanting more voices just makes me Max Mania or a teabagger or some shit.

I agree the revitalize group is a bunch of happy talkers and will cut you right out of the group if you say a discouraging word (or mention reality). They have a lot of back-chatter (off the main facebook page) and decide who isn't "adding" to the conversation by some crazy quilt of an agenda.
The fact that they've taken over the PADA will only spell its doom. The group has no more of a vision, or motivation, or focus, than Barb did.
After all, they get too busy patting themselves on the back and blowing smoke up each others poo-holes to address the real issues with downtown: there's nothing there, and a few greedy old landlords have the few rentals locked up (at astronomical, not based in reality rents), too many "junque" shops, and general unwelcoming (especially from the old-timers left down town...who needs a bookshop with all that attitude, too?).
The farmers market should return to the downtown, instead of being stuck in the transit center, which is too small, and too awkward (fine for winter, but terrible in the spring/summer/fall). But, we all know how that will go....because the farmer's market is worse than the revitalize group when it comes to being rigid and narrow minded.
CK has it right, this town is hopeless.

Sounds like you know that "Revitalize Port Angeles" group pretty intimately.

From what I've seen, from attending a few meetings, jibes pretty well with what you say. No vision. Happy talk. Not addressing what the problems actually are. Out of touch with the realities. Excluding anyone who says things they don't want to hear. Waste of time, from what I see.

And, I think you're right about it spelling the doom for the downtown, and the Association. After ALL the controversies about downtown and it's problems over the years, this group is the only response?

3:01 PM, January 18, 2015

The problems with downtown persist because of the few, outspoken, and thin skinned old-timers who insist that things are great, if only all these new punks would quit coming up with new ideas. Same thin skinned old timers who never had a good word to say about anyone and anything, for years and years. Probably the same thin skinned old times who wanted the Farmers Market OUT, and the same ones who didn't want car shows and art shows downtown, and the same ones who gossip at the drop of a hat. Couple that with the slumlords downtown that are still alive, and the people who just bought buildings (out-of-towners) and the one very greedy old man who owns the Lincoln.

Not ONE of those old buildings are up-to-code.

Not enough that there is no anchor for a draw downtown (we lost the only department store, the other one became the DSHS offices). And, then, the only remaining clothing store is now vacant.

So what's there? Nothing.

Fudge? A dozen junk shops, a couple of "punker" (not even ironic hipster) themed stores, and? what? What else is there? Okay, a decent pub with fodo, and a breakfast place. Anything else?

Can't have a downtown without a draw. There's no THERE, THERE.

But, to point this out to Revitalize is offensive.

Couldn't find their ass if you handed it to them.

You're mostly right about that "Revitalize Port Angeles" group. They THINK they have answers to the problems, but don't. Not even close.

I did notice that there were a lot of new people at the couple of meetings I went to. (Can't blame a girl for noticing!) So, yes, I agree there are a bunch of thin-skinned old timers who resist any change in this town, and resist new ideas. But I didn't hear any new ideas at the meetings I went to.

I didn't see or feel any real enthusiasm, especially from the new people who showed up. I found that sad. Listening to how they had moved to the area in the last year or so, and came to the meeting to find out how they could help get Port Angeles out of the dumps. And watching the glum looks on their faces as they sat through the evening.

@BBC

The US supports Saudi Arabia, who have been beheading people for decades. According to Newsweek, they're common place. Won't allow women do do much of anything. Bin Laden came from there. But, they're okay?

No sanctions? No invasions? No mass demonstrations in France over what happens there?

Why do these extremists get supporters and volunteers? Because they're Muslim? Or because the US and it's friends (including France) have occupying troops in their countries, killing their families, friends and neighbors. We're the reason they get riled up.

And, I'll bet you would get riled up too, if a foreign country sent troops into Port Angeles, and killed your family, friends and neighbors.

You'd call defenders of your country "hero" and "freedom fighters", and "patriots".

And that foreign country invading Port Angeles would call you a "terrorist" for resisting them.

Violence isn't the answer. It just keeps killing people.

Don't try to draw me into one of your bullshit debates. Like it or not I served my time in the military to keep this country, such as it is, like many others have, so you can have your stupid notions that war isn't the answer.

On one level I can agree with that, but at the level of reality I can't.

You can thank me later for helping to keep this country free enough so you can speak your mind.

You say: "Don't try to draw me into one of your bullshit debates. Like it or not I served my time in the military to keep this country, such as it is, like many others have, so you can have your stupid notions that war isn't the answer."

I know, reality is bullshit.

The US military is really keeping us free by fighting in Afghanistan. We can all see that things are better now, world wide after Bush invaded THAT country.

The newspapers were all full of pictures of the people in France saying how defiant that all were. Easy to do when you are far away from what your country is doing. Easy to do when YOU don't see your neighborhood be blown up by invisible drone strikes, bu a brave soldier in a control room thousands of miles away.

So defiant that the next day the government sends out the troops all over the country to protect them!

Talk about bullshit. Chumps get so brainwashed they forget the whole reason extremist do what they do is to instill fear in the target country. The fear of the unknown "what and where the next attack will happen". They care little about the people they hurt, just the extent to which the attack will be covered by the media, and people will react.

So, we all submit to their activities by agreeing to the increased militarization of our societies. We agree to increased surveillance in our lives without question. We agree to having less freedoms. We lose, they win. And we're too brainwashed to even see it.

Look at Afghanistan, BBC, and tell me it is an example of a military success story. We've spent how many years there? How many billions? And, now we're negotiating with the Taliban?

You saw the news stories where the Afghani soldiers stop fighting, and join the farmers to harvest the opium poppies? Those are our allies?

Maybe we should just do what Port Angeles is so good at: Stick our fingers in our ears and chant " Na na na na.." so we don't hear what we don't want to hear.
