Wild Olympics Effort: Yay or Nay?

There's a guest column in the PDN expressing each viewpoint of the Wild Olympics effort.

In Favor.

Opposed.

Wiggens comes across as a major a-hole in his article. Not to mention the lies.

Wild Olympics? Ha! The area should be turned over to private enterprise, because the job creators will make jobs for us by cutting down those big trees. We'll be able to drive big trucks, and make lots of money. What is more important than that?

With all due respect...Glen Wiggins is very old, and very much vested in the old ways of doing things. He was in logging for decades, therefore, in his view, there should always be logging here at the highest level possible.

Those of us who are not as old, and not vested in the old ways, see a lot more potential here in keeping trees, rather than cutting them down. It will protect our environment, which will enhance our quality of life, and, over time, these two things will be THE drivers of our economy. And that economy will be much more sustainable and predictable.

Logging and other forms of resource extraction are pretty much always boom and bust economies. But look at how stable and fairly predictable the numbers of visitors to our National Park are. That's an economic base that is much more stable to build on, and to expand on.

Despite what the old-school nay-sayers would like to think, environmental protections are here to stay, and will only get stronger and more refined. Which is a good thing. By protecting our environment, we are making an investment in our own community and future. These are the kinds of commitments so many businesses look for these days before investing in or moving to a community.

NO ONE wants to live in, or invest in, a place with no rules, no protections. But, as businesses get ever more mobile, they will locate themselves in places that are pleasant to live in, and that have a high quality of life. That's certainly the model I favor, rather than the cut, ruin and run mindset that so many in the resource extraction industries seem to have.

No shit. Hippies suck. They stink, hug trees, and never stop talking about how horrible humans are. Tweakers are much better. From 3pm till 3am they have so much energy, vision, and ambition, and heck, even if I didn't like them, they are impossible for me to spot, compared to dirty hippies. So I keep hiring tweakers! Doh!

More land in the hands of the Fed is unnecessary. http://bigthink.com/strange-maps/291-federal-lands-in-the-us

HUGE NEWS! Kenmore Air has a new commercial and it's professionally produced, isn't annoying, and SELLS the product. Which is a unique product. Wow. Just saw it on CNN's Out Front. Hope they run it in the Seattle market, not just over here.

Yeah.

We all can see it was not private enterprise that caused the big economic troubles that all our communities have been facing since 2008. It wasn't the banks fault. It wasn't Wall Streets' fault. It was because America has Big Government.

If only we could cut out the government regulators, the job creators in private enterprise would solve all our troubles.

Lets' elect private enterprise as our form of government, and everything will be great in America again.

If I remember correctly, "Conservative" Nixon opened up trade relations with Communist China, and enacted the Clean Water Act, and other environmental protections.

Seems ya can't trust nobody no more.

Or, maybe you're living in a past world that doesn't exist anymore. Joe MCarthy lost credibility with most, long ago.
