The Institute for Culture and Ecology and the Pacific Northwest Research Station of the National Forest Service will be conducting a workshop in Port Angeles on Monday, September 20th at 6:30 p.m. The location hasn’t been given yet.
Port Townsend will have a similar workshop on September 21st. Each workshop will have twenty participants. Participants will be asked what’s important to them in their communities, in terms of economics, recreation, spirituality or other priorities.
Kelly Biedenweg, with the Institute for Culture and Ecology, said:
“We are seeking area residents with diverse perspectives. Understanding more about the areas and resources Peninsula residents value and use can inform planning and decision-making. Mapping will also allow residents to identify shared values and resource areas that are important to communities.”
If you’re interested in participating, contact Kelly Biedenweg at kellybiedenweg@ifcae.org or 206-883-5612.

I wonder if they had one of these workshops prior to doing away with the public fishing pontoon on The Hood Canal Bridge.

They're always doing that to make others feel like part of the action, but in truth they are going to take the path they want to take.
I see that in the comments in the post below that WTF thinks they know me.
Dear WTW, I do not live in a trailer. It's true that I live in a piece of shit on a piece of shit property, but it's a free and clear piece of shit, all mine, all 75 X 100 feet of it.
Get your facts straight.
I'm going to be off line for a week or so, you monkeys be careful out there while I'm gone.
BBC you are a hopeless person looking for attention on this blog, but i love you

Okay, I'll take a try here.
Ron Allen and Mike Gentry come up with this "concept" for the "Salish Village" based upon no conversations with the current land owner. Okay. Ideas are a good thing. Let's explore what is possible.
First "stumbling block" I see is the well acknowledged existence of the thousands-years-old native/Klallam village of Y'Innis on the former Rayonier mill site. Bones (parts of "Dead Indians") have been dug up at that site for many years by Rayonier employees. They have stood up at recent public meetings to say this.
Frances Charles, Chairwoman of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe stopped the nearby Graving Dock project by saying "Enough is enough!" That it was not okay to keep digging up her ancestors out of the graves they had been in for hundreds and thousands of years.
And, "We will not allow our ancestors to be entombed under concrete."
Okay. I can respect that.
So, now, how is this going to apply to the former Rayonier mill site, the ancient village of Y'Innis, and the plans for the "Salish Village" vision of fellow S'Klallam Tribe chair, Ron Allen?
How do Frances Charles' concerns materialize with the recent city CSO plan, and it's attempts to buy the 5 million gallon tank constructed over that ancient village? Millions of dollars of concrete to be poured over the top of the ancient village and the burials there.
Will the Chairwoman of the LEKT stand up to the developer Ron Allen, and retain her stance of concern for her elders and ancestors? Or will she go silent in the face of "economic development opportunities"? Wasn't the Graving Dock just one of those economic development opportunities?
What is different now?
Francis Charles is weak, and a joke of a leader. All she is, is the leader of racism. The bigests racists on the peninsula are the LEKT.
WTF @ 9:32 PM, September 06... not me! just the crazy sadsack stalker...but on to the business at hand.
First, the Forest Service had nothing to do with the pontoon at Hood Canal- that was the Washington DOT. I would be less inclined to think this is about "Homeland Security" than stupid "spend a buck to save a penny" Bureaucracy.
But what in tarnation is the Forest Service doing asking about "spirituality"? Pretty weird.
Who the hell is the "Institute for Culture and Ecology" Googled 'em, and went to their site and I still cant figure 'em out. Anybody heard of this outfit?
Last, what do these folks expect to learn from a focus group containing 20 participants?
Wow, WTF? your post at ^;14am this morning regarding the Francis Charles is the smartest thing I've ever seen you post.

Wasn't me - and you know it...I understand that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. ..in this case however, I think you’re just a cowardly dope with nothing to say. Like EVERY Republican in this town.
I would however , like to hear Ms. Charles’ opinions on Mr. Allen’s proposals. Sounds to me VERY much like the Graving Yard conundrum . Of course, without charlatans like Headrick, Rodgers Schoenfeldt, etc., involved, it may actually come to more than a cheesy rip off of state money.
I'm so confused, I don't know who's for real here?
OMG. I agree with BBC.
The development of real estate should be off limits to the Port, City and the tribes.
there is not property tax revenue there, and if we can't collct it from them, the gov will just take more from us.
I think to college should buy the land, turn it into a Marine sanctuary, and study the effects of industrialization on the waterfront.
