R Bar Incident, PDN Articles and Disappearing Comments

I have no knowledge or opinion about the recent incident at the R Bar. I've been following it on the PDN website at these two articles (here and here), and the comments at the end of each article.

And then suddenly, the comments have all "disappeared" from both articles. I've seen individual comments "disappear" from PDN articles, but never an entire comment section; let alone all of the comments from two articles on the same subject.

Anyone know what happened?

Weird...not only are the "old" comments gone, there's no provision to write any new ones...

Does the R Bar advertise in the PDN? They sure seem to be terrified of losing their advertising base, and tend to soft peddle anything that might piss 'em off.

It seems that on most crime articles they no longer allow comments.

I have noticed the disappearing comments in at least a couple of cases now- unrelated to the story about the bar- on the PDN web edition.

Wondering why at least 2 of the papers here on the peninsula shy away from web based interaction.

The 2 I am thinking of- (PT Leader & PDN) both have facebook pages- very easy to comment/interact.

PT Leader has a YouTube account- very easy to comment/interact.

Most articles never show up on web editions- fewer still show up on Facebook.

Software certainly exists to bring us to 2010.

Kitsap Sun & Seattle Times are examples of papers that welcome on-line interaction.

The comments by the troll on this thread are revealing... this is the same idiot who has been co-opting screen names for months (years?). The same moron who created the “Watcher/Mania” issue, the same silly ass that’s been disrupting threads for as long as I’ve been reading them.

Is this just some innocent mental defective with too much time and a computer at his/her disposal?

We know Karen Rodgers cited the unfair way she was being treated on “local blogs” as a reason for not running again. ( of course I’m sure that years of incompetence, and dishonesty made her unelectable, combined with a big fat job offer from one of her co-conspirators was the real reason) .

Still, I’m sure most of her crowd are well aware of this little sliver of democracy in PA. Just as I’m sure it drives ‘em nuts that they can’t spoon feed “facts” to us like they do the PDN. As I’ve said before, these people are just too stupid and dishonest to engage in rational debate or discussion. (not an insult, just a fact) And so they disrupt, in an attempt to hijack threads and quash any discussion that might not support their own crazy point of view.

Fascism, Port Angeles style…

Where’s the Watcher?

Now that i said what it think, and not what i know, I'd like to clarify. Kent Myers is a hack, I should be city manager, the entire city council should be replced. And, here's the big one, if the county can shut down for 2 days a month, why have they waited so long to do this, becuase they live off us tax payers, with no regard to how they spend our money.

"...with no regard to how they (the county) spend our money."

I know that's supposed to be a joke, but think of it this way: $600k disappears, no one is worried about this because "insurance will cover it" and, if it doesn't, it's just taxpayer money and there's plenty more where that came from. Yeah, I'd say there's no regard for how Clallam and P.A. spends taxpayer money.

You think:
1. How about Harborworks blowing $1.3 million.
2. The school district building a two brand new elementary schools then closing two because enrollment is down
3. The gateway center
4. The skill center

of course, none of the examples listed have anything to do with county govt. But what the heck

Wait a minute! Yes, I will agree with you if you are pointing to the Port of Port Angeles, and the Port Angeles City Council for each wasting over $600k of taxpayer's money on HarborWorks. Show me where the county did $600k of "waste" recently, specifically.

I've been involved in local political affairs, and have attended the actual meetings for years now. I don't base my views on the PDN, or other venues of contrived hearsay. I've been there, and heard what they had to say.

We are LUCKY to have the three county commissioners we have. No BS. Great guys, who work hard, and have real integrity. Rare in this day and age.

My only "regret" is that Steve Tharinger is moving up. Anyone who doubts his commitment to the region, or the area, need only look into what he has done for the last ? years, and all the State/Federal money he has brought to Clallam for restoration projects, and more. Really, an amazing guy.

If we want to work on "change" in this area, it REALLY needs to be in Port Angeles. Here we see many examples of waste, wasteful ways, and really bad public policy decisions.

Okay, how about the $2 million the county spent on the Skills Center, or the $750,000 they loaned the failed Incubator.

You see, it's all taxpayers money, all of it. They have no regard for how they spend it.

They pay employees for life, through their pention plan. Who does that anymore? Only government leaders, using taxpayer money.

They are all weak people caving to the unions, because they don't care.

Real business men stood up to the unions years ago and got rid of that "designed to bankrupt a company" benefit a long time ago.

You are absolutly correct...our County Govt. is the only success story in an otherwise blighted local political landscape.

My concern is in Tharinger running for both posts. Seems like if he goes to the state house, we get a Real Estate Developer on the Commission. Or a Nut in the state house, if it goes the other way. Unless Steve manages to win Both elections, it's kind of a Lose/Lose proposition.

Speaking of the PDN- looks like they had no web based coverage on this:

Border Patrol supporters gather at city hall

http://www.konp.com/local/6130

It appears that local US Border Patrol operations have been downsized in recent years (checkpoints on the peninsula ended in 2008) if so- what is the justification for 25-50 US Border Patrol Agents at the Port Angeles Station?

What we do not know:

How many US Border Patrol arrests have been made out of the Port Angeles Station in the past 12 months?

What percentage of US Border Patrol arrests out of the Port Angeles Station are connected in any way to the US/Canada border?

The US Border Patrol says policy does not allow them to release arrest numbers Re: justification for the 50 agent station at Port Angeles.

I contacted Congressman Norm Dick's office by e-mail to ask about arrest numbers and have not yet heard from them.

Steve's seat is not up in this next round of elections, is it? (Sorry, I'm not following this that closely.) It only becomes vacant if he wins Lynn's (Kessler's) seat, right?

I'm back, sort of, setting up a new computer with Win 7 on it, interesting how it looks and feels.

But I won't be doing a post of any of my blogs until I return from camping, about the 20th or 21st.

Anyway, it's a wonder that the PDN allows any comments at all, the editor doesn't like all opinions, it's like letters to the editor, if they don't approve of what you think and say they are not going to get printed.

I haven't sent in a letter to the editor for years, he wouldn't print them after I told him that he's an idiot.

So much for freedom of speech.

You are 50% correct, Steve's position as County Commissioner is not up for re-election until November of 2011. There is no requirement that he vacate that seat if he wins the State position formerly held by Lynn Kessler. He would also be eligible to re-run for his current County post in 2011 if he wanted to, (see Mason County Commissioner who currently holds and has held State Legislature Office and County Commissioner for 3 re-election cycles. I, also support Steve, but all he has said about the future is that he intends to fulfill his promise to the local voters to stay a Clallam County Commissioner for the full term that he was elected to, whether he wins the State seat or not. And that he will take an unpaid leave during the 3 months that the State Legislature is in session. No thoughts right now on whether he will run for re-election to the County position in 2011, either way.

Yeah, and you probably support that guy who is running against Mike (Doherty), too. He admits he knows nothing about what it takes to do the job he is trying to get, but he somehow thinks it is valid to say Mike is "out of touch"!! How does that work?

Steve works so hard, as do "The Mikes". Steve brings in so many millions to the county and region from Olympia for various projects. Those that even want to start criticizing any of these people should spend some real time reading the minutes of all the various meeting and committees these guys attend every day. Better yet, these critics should go and attend a couple week's worth of meetings.

After years of watching these guys, I have nothing but admiration for them. We are really lucky to have them working for us.

Sure can't say the same thing for the idiots at Port Angeles city hall, though.

What a sore loser.

Com'on Edna. Don't you have shelves to dust, or anything else more productive to do with your time?

First you are quick to accuse the Watcher of being Max Mania, now you are accusing me of being Steve Tharinger. What are your reasons for believing that I'm Steve? Just because I dared to post a note saying I think the 3 County Commissioners do a great job, all considered? That is all the evidence you need?

Wow. You really show what a partisan loser you are. Doesn't matter that Steve, or Mike Doherty, or Mike Chapman are decent guys doing a good job for the community; all you care about is that they are not knee-jerk mindless followers of the local Republican Party. For that reason only, you think they should be "replaced".

In Doherty's case, he is facing Robin Poole. Poole was quoted during the candidates forum earlier this year that he didn't even know what the job he was running for entailed. Couldn't answer the questions being asked of him.

But you, Edna, will support him over someone who now sits on the Governor's panel on budget cuts. Who travels both to Olympia where he knows the heads of agencies on a first name basis, and the West End where he knows virtually everyone and their parents.

" You three all need to be replaced."? Keep it up. You're digging yourself quite the hole in the area of lack of credibility. Need a backhoe?
